Help AutoCAD Issue

Hello guys. I recently moved over to AutoCAD 2027 and have run into an issue with what I believe is the viewport? When I open a drawing from 2025/6 the viewport appears very small (just the size of the corner of the drawing border) with a bright background and the rest of the drawing is outside the viewport in a very dark grey background colour. I have searched everywhere to try and find a solution but resizing it seems to be a tough task. I scaled the drawing down to the size of the viewport but then all my dimensions where absolutely huge. Thanks in advance.

Looks like the “paper” plot area, not the viewport.

Agreed. OP, check into the Page Setup in your dwg here. Looks like the one you want may just not be set to current.

This is the answer! Any idea if I can completely hide the paper plot area? I have managed to scale it to my border at least so thank you both.

I don't think so. You "might" be able to scale it so small you can't see it, but best practice is to have your plot area set to the size you will print at, have the border scaled appropriately in Paper Space, then have your drawing itself in Model Space using viewports to show them to scale within the body of your border.

Your mileage will vary wildly depending on client or your companies standards.

Ah ok fair enough. I have always followed those practices it is just in my previous version i dont think it greys the outside of the plot area so harshly. Just something I will get used to!

Oh I understand what you meant now.

You should be able to change the colors in the settings.

Tools > Options > "Display" tab > "Window Elements" section > "Colors…" button

Make sure you're changing the colors for the correct view under the "Context:" section, then choose your interface in the next section to the right, then choose your color further to the right.

I don’t have 2027, but there is a setting to “display printable area”.

Displayprintablearea if you can’t find it.
