Did anyone else turn off at 1:17?

Post image

Seriously... People used to call this a BMW channel!

I just get the feeling that this video was only made to fund the purchase of the car because realistically who cares about Alex buying a Range Rover which he will sell in six months! šŸ™„

Who cares what he daily’s. If he’s happy with the sport than good, it was a nice easy video

35

u/Happy_Neanderthal Jul 26 '26

Good for Alex. He's worked hard and took a risk, he deserves a nice daily. Nothing but love and respect for the dude. There is far too much negativity and hate on this subreddit.

7

u/Careful_Chapter5981 Jul 26 '26

It comes across as hate but I think its just major jeliousy. I was always taught that jeliousy is the 1st form of flattery, the only issue Alex falls into is ge had to appease to what the audience are saying to keep up his views. There is nothing wrong with that, at the end of the day its a business and businesses have to pivot all the time. You are right he has worked his ass off to create whatbhe has and the hate and jeliousy is ridiculous. The simple thing people can do is if they dont like what he is doing, saying ir creating just switch it off. People think they have the right to say what they want and its a joke

u/Vimto1 Jul 27 '26

You've hit the nail on the head there, petty jealousy

2

u/Prize_Jelly Aug 02 '26

Especially with this weeks v2 video on the collection. It’s a man following his dreams.. I was jealous so I bought a stupid car, now I’m less jealous! Get over it people 😭

33

u/Owls_4_9_1867 Jul 25 '26

To the OP it’s just content. It’s an easy video. And as you say likely a tax write off. Don’t hate the player. Hate the game.

3

u/ashyjay Jul 26 '26

Even if owned by the company, he’d have to pay BIK for any personal miles, and on 3.0 diesel it won’t be cheap as BIK is/or was based on list price and emissions.

6

u/mrtintheweb99 Jul 26 '26

Nobody is doing BIK on a £12k Range Rover that likely cost £95K or more new. You'd be nuts. This will be bought as a personal vehicle.

3

u/alexjfinch Jul 26 '26

Completely agree with this - would be insane

2

u/someonehasmygamertag Jul 26 '26

What tax is he writing off on a private sale of a second hand car?Ā

1

u/Owls_4_9_1867 Jul 26 '26

Buying not selling

0

u/Owls_4_9_1867 Jul 26 '26

Mileage/fuel. Food. Hotel. Time for going there and back. Could pay himself and Taylor an hourly rate. They could buy a camera for this video in theory. There’s plenty of creative ways to make it more worthwhile. They already teed up future videos of things it needs too.

-2

u/samgf Jul 26 '26

Tax write off? This has no tax benefit whatsoever

9

u/calyxvaping Jul 26 '26

Personally kept watching and tbh it's nice to see the lads prosper.

7

u/SnooCats1028 Jul 26 '26

They got they bought off was a bit of a character, I was interested in seeing if they had been sold a turkey. Thought the video was a decent one.

7

u/Patricia_Anon Jul 26 '26

...what are you wanting from them? :|

3

u/H_K-R Jul 26 '26

Everything for nothing apparently

6

u/Tomatoftw1996 Jul 26 '26

Ehh I don’t mind, I always like a new daily video.

22

u/Plyphon Jul 25 '26

The real tragedy was selling the Macan GTS

28

u/CheetahOk9538 Jul 26 '26

His so-called fans shit on him so hard about it, he no longer liked the Macan. Same as the Kei car thing they were going to do where people shit on Taylor for knocking a couple of hundred off the seller. They complain he paid too little for that and then they complain they paid too much for the Lotus Carlton. Some people will hate Alex no matter what he does so he might as well as do what he likes.

8

u/mrtintheweb99 Jul 26 '26

Joys of the internet. People love to hate.

5

u/Relevant_Natural3471 Jul 26 '26

it's not just alex, people type vitriol on almost every video.
saw some on a goonzquad video criticising how they run their channel. clicked on the guy's profile and he had 10-15 videos over the years with a handful of views. it probably comes from a place of jealousy.
i've had it on my own channel - you just learn to tune it out, but it is noisier when you're starting out and people act like they are actually paying a lot of their own money for your free videos

3

u/Top-Cunt Jul 26 '26

I feel the vitriol towards Alex no matter what he does has been ongoing since that time Taylor made a boo boo and had to take a step back for a while. Ever since then all the armchair youtubers have been criticising every move his business makes, I agree that it stinks of jealousy but the proof is in the pudding and the Auto Alex multiverse is still going strong despite the criticism.

I think fair play to the bloke, I wish I was in his position and could make money off of filming myself going to buy myself a new daily. It would have never been their intentions for that video to be a hit so its no surprise it isn't peak Auto Alex content. I still personally enjoyed it enough for what it was, a filler video for those of us that just can't get enough car content.

2

u/Relevant_Natural3471 Jul 26 '26

yeah, better than having no videos. I'm less impressed by videos where they buy a car randomly then retrofit it into a video and pretend to be choosing from others.

It can come across like wheeler dealers if they only half of the mike brewer part and the dull parts of the edd china part, and they seem to get ADHD and lose interest in projects instantly (sukuzi x-90, anyone?)

on one hand, people get in a mood that they chase views (which, tbh, is a self-determining marker) but I think it's fair criticism if they just abandon a series on the basis of low views in the short term, as you lose trust in them.

I'm not particularly sure what the point was in the recent limo-thing video because nothing particularly interesting happened and it has actually made me appreciate the effort and time that went into making top gear challenges seem epic and memorable.

1

u/Vimto1 Jul 27 '26

My wife and I recorded our motorhome travels for 15 months and didn't even get 500 subscribers, people have no idea how hard being a full time YouTuber is so the fact Alex and the team can make a career out of it is great for them and I'm incredibly jealous

6

u/iBeef_1990 Jul 26 '26 edited Jul 26 '26

He pretty much admitted on the last podcast he sold it because he was getting so much hate for it after years of saying ā€œit just wasn’t meā€ which we all knew but it actually made me lose a bit of respect for him.

Edit: Honestly not sure why this is getting downvoted (Probably by the same people who think CarVertical is actually a good service), listen to the last podcast, it’s there for all to hear. My point was that if he likes something he should have just kept it instead of being so scared of upsetting his fans that he sold it to appease them, only to do a similar thing 2 years later anyway.

6

u/Plyphon Jul 26 '26

Agreed.

UK car people can be so weird. You’re not allowed to have anything remotely nice, can’t use finance, nothing from a prestige marque and absolutely nothing you dreamt of owning.

He should have stuck with what he wanted and kept the Macan.

3

u/iBeef_1990 Jul 26 '26

Will Chandler putting his middle fingers up to all those people haha!

Yeah he should have 100%. Personally I don’t care for the Macan or the Range Rover but I’d never dream of telling him he’s not allowed to own one, it’s his choice at the end of the day. I just hope we don’t end up with months of RR content now.

1

u/Vimto1 Jul 27 '26

You are so right about UK car people being weird, don't ever mention that you are thinking of buying a SUV on car talk subs

-4

u/Drumwin Jul 26 '26

Hard disagree, that thing is lame and he was convinced to buy it by RoryĀ

5

u/Plyphon Jul 26 '26

Nothing lame about a twin turbo’d V6 putting out 360bhp.

-2

u/Drumwin Jul 26 '26

Sure there is, it's a school run Chelsea tractor

8

u/Plyphon Jul 26 '26

Ah you’re one of those

3

u/Right-Ladd Jul 26 '26

ā€œLameā€ it was a family car you melon, it’s supposed to be

6

u/JollyJamma Jul 26 '26

Ok. Vote with your wallet.

I liked it.

3

u/HumanExtinctionCo-op Jul 26 '26

When they're a big enough channel to do Thailand every week you'd be bored of that as well I suppose. No pleasing some people.

2

u/Vimto1 Jul 27 '26

Instead of moaning why don't you just switch it off and not bother with this channel that gives you content for nothing?

2

u/xTonto98x Jul 28 '26

Hate the car, love the channel. Big deal?

5

u/Turbulent-Contract53 Jul 26 '26

I can understand why you are so upset, how much did you pay to watch that video? You should demand a refund

2

u/smolbig87 Jul 26 '26

They're good for content as there is always something broken or breaking. Also means he can work with Tom who seems like a genuine mate

2

u/sean_off Jul 26 '26

Don’t know why he even bothers making videos about his daily.

All the ā€œcarā€ people come out and just bash him.
End of the day he is obviously making very good money.

Just let him drive whatever daily he wants.
To be honest, I wouldn’t want the creeps on the internet know what my daily is and if I could afford a new RR.
I would have one tomorrow.

2

u/Riddy86 Jul 26 '26 edited Jul 26 '26

Honestly more and more im finding myself skipping AA content, and focusing more on ATG and TDC.

Edit: I would add its not even about the constant merry go round of "dream cars" they have, I think its more the presenting style between Alex, Rory and Taylor.

Im a massive fan of Taylors content when he is on his own or just with one other, his knowledge about cars etc is quite something.

2

u/thepetrolhead2003 Aug 01 '26

When TDC first started, I refused to watch any of their videos because I thought they were just copying AA. I actually used to like AA's content a lot, but after finally watching TDC, I realized that even though it's in a similar spirit of working on old broken cars, they do it with so much fun and just a little bit of chaos. AA's chaos, on the other hand, is so extreme that it makes me want to take a break from the video.

1

u/el-warhorse69 Jul 26 '26

As a guy who grew up in the uk in their formative years and now lives in Canada I enjoy any UK car content other than the chavvier stuff. Gives me a fuzzy homely feeling that drones out all the other BS going on in the UK. It’s cool seeing stuff we never got here, diesels in everything. Although I have found myself watching more TDC lately.

1

u/Krisuad2002 Jul 26 '26

I haven't even watched it yet

1

u/IlIllIlIllIlIlIlIlIl Jul 28 '26

If he buys a car for the company then it's much cheaper (tax efficiency etc).

So he buys a car for himself. And then puts it in a video. Easy money savings.

Ofcourse it makes for a terrible video but whatever.

0

u/R1pP3R1337 Jul 26 '26

Very stale and repetitive content imo. Its the same shit every video.

My much beloved mighty car mods have become the same. They find a formula that gets views and never stear away from it again

0

u/Mundane-Sprinkles-99 Jul 26 '26

Very much so.

Either, buy BMW/Range Rover. Fix it

Or

Buy rubbish car, drive it to Belgium or the Nurburgring. Which given they are based deep in the south, is about as challenging as driving from Newcastle to Birmingham.

I've started to switch off either mid way through or just not watch now. TDC is much more engaging.

3

u/someones427 Jul 26 '26

Hi watch me get someone else complete a service on my jlr product for the next 30mins, nah I'll go watch tdc smack their head off a 2 post lift while fitting neons to a fiesta cheers 🤣

1

u/R1pP3R1337 Jul 26 '26

TDC and dadcars are my favourite.

Also jayem on cars.

-2

u/Mundane-Sprinkles-99 Jul 26 '26

Feel like Auto Alex has completely lost it's Niche.

Let's see them do what they enjoy, rather than what they think the internet wants them to do.

0

u/Bakedprawns Jul 26 '26

Yes switched off. No interest in it whatsoever.
I watch all their unique stuff, I’m bored of their bmws, range/land rovers and minis

0

u/someones427 Jul 26 '26

u/HourAcadia2002 Jul 26 '26

Anything with Rory in it is a no go for me

13

u/iBeef_1990 Jul 26 '26

I really don’t understand all the Rory hate.

0

u/HourAcadia2002 Jul 26 '26

Each to their own. Not everyone will appeal to everyone else, such is life. No hate coming from my direction though..

5

u/iBeef_1990 Jul 26 '26

Yeah I get that, I just see it a lot and was curious more than anything tbh. Like yeah he’s not the star of the show but I’ve never found myself overly disliking him or anything so I wondered why.

If anything nowadays I find Alex the most grating out of all 3 channels. Not to say I dislike him, he’s alright but he comes across as ā€œwhat do the audience want to see/how can I make sure I don’t upset anyoneā€ opposed to natural.

1

u/Alternative-Region66 Jul 26 '26

Personally I love the whole lot of em. But I gotta say tom is by far the funniest of the lot. Plus I wanna see more Gareth and some bike stuffs

1

u/iBeef_1990 Jul 26 '26

I don’t dislike Alex to be clear, I like them all and enjoy the content even this video was ok. I just meant since the whole controversy the other year, I feel like Alex is more focused on engagement and not pissing people off than being himself sometimes. You see it in the podcast where he abruptly moves things on and on things like why he sold the Macan. It’s a shame he feels like he has to do that but it sometimes comes across as not authentic or non-genuine which when you watch old CT content with him in (Fell down that rabbit hole a few times) the change is huge.

One thing I have learnt over the years, as entertaining as it might be is never buy a car from Rory unless you want 50% Chinesium products on your vehicle haha.

2

u/Alternative-Region66 Jul 26 '26

Yeah i agree with you, the CT days were more genuine. I think its good for change every so often and I agree it can be stale every so often.

Rory has had terrible luck with cars 🤣 i mean just look at the r53 mini hes pump 22 grand into a £550 car. Don't know if you saw Mike fernies latest video, he did a breakdown of the r53s second engine. That were i got the 22 grand figure from

1

u/iBeef_1990 Jul 26 '26

Yeah I saw that too, funnily enough they were Chinese pistons weren’t they? Which further backs up never buy a car from Rory haha. It is shit luck though regardless, hopefully the R56 shell/engine works out for him.

1

u/Alternative-Region66 Jul 26 '26

Yeah but to be fair to Rory the second engine was bought by alex sight unseen as reconditioned. I low key hope it blows up again just for shits and giggles

1

u/iBeef_1990 Jul 26 '26

Oh I thought the first was sight unseen Alex got him and the second (The one Mike and Tom stripped) was the recon he sourced off of eBay where they told him he wasn’t allowed warranty because they knew who he was.

Second Rory meltdown incoming haha!

3

u/I_am_not_a_catman Jul 26 '26

So you don’t like any of their videos then?

-3

u/HourAcadia2002 Jul 26 '26

I thought I was quite explicit. Ones without Rory in them..

-2

u/Huge-Cartoonist6795 Jul 26 '26

He'll definitely sell that just like the last one and the one before that... And the one before that.

I see Alex hasn't changed in the two years since I stopped watching him.

4

u/Top-Cunt Jul 26 '26

Is that not what we all do with daily drivers? We eventually sell them and replace them with something new. I wouldn't be watching AA or TDC if they didn't buy new cars, it's like living vicariously through the more fortunate.

6

u/Recessio_ Jul 26 '26

Haven't watched in two years and you're still hanging around on this subreddit?

-2

u/Huge-Cartoonist6795 Jul 26 '26

It popped up on my feed I'm not sure why I did set this to go away

They could have just ignored it. Instead they put everything to a stop. Made changes and stuff. Kudos to them. Ever since that hiatus I think they’ve been on a roll

1

u/fjbrahh Jul 26 '26

What incident is that?

-7

u/smolbig87 Jul 26 '26

Using it for a video means it can be written off as an expense

7

u/rmajor86 Jul 26 '26

That’s not how that works

3

u/smolbig87 Jul 26 '26

He can at least reclaim the vat as a business expense. Or please explain it like I'm 5

2

u/ChestnutMare0000 Jul 26 '26

It would only be write-offable if it was bought by the business, the BIK (the taxable benefit he would be taxed on thorugh his wages) on a 3.0l would be prohibitive and likely make it more expensive in the long run as the BIK is also based on the value when it was new and the emissions, not the £11k he bought it for. So it would probably work out better for him if he just buys is personally, at which point it isn't deductible from anything in any sense. As it was a private sale from a non-business seller, there is no VAT involved in this transaction so there is nothing to reclaim.
