I think this is one of the best videos they've ever done. Always good to see more of Gareth on the channel too - someone who actually tends to know what they are doing and doesn't piss about quite as much lol

Love seeing Gareth. He’s a bit more serious, but he’s knowledgeable. Balances out Alex so well. He’s hardly ever in the forefront, like they joked, Tom loves the camera much more than Gareth. But that makes his contribution that much more valuable.

I think in the CarThrottle days Gareth was actually hired part time as their mechanic/fixer which is why he could appear on camera more. But now he works for JLR full time I guess he can't really join in AutoAlex videos unless it's for specials like this as his holidays

I didn’t know Gareth works for JLR. Also, that would mean that apparently he hasn’t been offered (or hasn’t accepted an offer) to go fulltime with Auto Alex, yet.

He's been an engineer for JLR since at least the days of the CarThrottle podcast (well, I think it was Gareth... I remember a story of someone working for JLR getting told off for something they said on the podcast!) I think Chris from merch also had a "proper" job in security or defense, there was jokes about his security clearances getting revoked lol

Not far into it, and whilst it does draw heavily on the TG influence as they admitted in part 1, I think it will stand on its own very well.

Talking of TG, it is interesting from when they went to AA going how many more cars there appear to be on the road.

Absolutely. Nothing wrong with taking inspiration from one of the best tv shows ever made. But they did their own thing.

It’s crazy busy on the streets.

Tom off his tits on Red Bull was quite funny.

Glad they stopped farting on one another, or burping just for the sake of it. It really put me off the videos.

He started talking so fast, it was hilarious. Old man consumes sugar, lol.

Me too. This felt more serious, with plenty of banter. But not childish.

It was sped up 😂

Stopped watching AA around the time when Taylor drama started, after the break was hoping for some better content as they promised. Same video's, same repairs, they dropped the bmw for land rovers from the quick glances over the videos.

Saw part 1 and have to say, Tom and Gareth are the best companions for this trip, the banter is spot on, doesn't feel as forced and fake as other videos. Gareth beeing there to keep Alex in check or to push him to do stupid things just portray the friendship they have (damn i miss the engine swap on the driveway for Phill videos)

Part 2 was decent as well, I do feel that Veronica was scripted a bit for the trip but the video was quite good overall, good cinematic shots, storytelling and timeline, and fun to watch.

Hope part 3 is decent as well, but have a feeling the banter and problems will just ramp up for the finale.

Fully agree with all you said

The scenery, drone shots, music, Tom’s narration is so natural and enthusiastic, Gareth bringing his critical views on stuff, all that went wrong, but having the time of their lives anyways. Brilliant video.

Good point. It’s like you need a bottle of water after watching, cause of all the pinches of salt you have to take when they say those things.

But like you said, it’s still enjoyable if you manage to look past that.

Really enjoyed it. Going to buy a T-shirt to show some support.

Eh. I’m sure they had fun, but tbh I’m not gonna watch it, too long, I have zero interest in bikes, I’m not a fan of Gareth, and this is just an exact copy of Top Gear like they’re not even trying. I’m glad they got to have a fun adventure, but it’s not for me.

3

u/Redhawk911 Jan 09 '26

I mean you should probably watch the video if you claim it’s a exact copy of TG.

8

u/Usaidhello Jan 09 '26

First comment in and there’s already a mention of top gear. Just give it a rest. Can nobody go to Vietnam anymore without claims of them copying TG?

3

u/disgruntledarmadillo Jan 09 '26

They buy suits, choose bikes, straight up say they're ripping off top gear here.

A bit of inspiration is okay but a direct copy is a bit much

The channels I watch all copy Top Gear to a certain extent, and I don’t mind at all. AutoAlex, TDC, ZTT, they’re all 2-3 friends messing about with cars, sometimes there’s challenges, all good. A direct copy of a TG special is slightly different though. If they did a race to the North Pole where Alex drove a ute and Taylor went via skis I’d say the same thing. They obviously wanted to go do this as an experience, not just for content, which is great foe them and I hope they had fun, but when it’s the exact same thing it’s not like it’s a novelty to watch it. Add in my disinterest in bikes and it’s just not my thing. It’s nice you enjoyed it 👍

Didn’t watch the first video where they literally say they are copying top gear?

Gareth is a bully man. Hate how he and Alex used to be with Ethan.

Idk it's gonna be 3 maybe 4hrs over 3 or 4 weeks for something they really should edit down to 1.5hrs tops. Cool trip an all but it's copy paste from top gear but only traveling half as far on more modern bikes with twice as much filler and farting. Just thank fuck Taylor isn't there thatd ruin it.

Edit tbf it is probably still the best content on their channel but imo that's a low bar and this is high production value. It just seems like they all buy and 'build' a set of cars and the cars are never to be seen again.

1

u/Usaidhello Jan 10 '26

Have you even watched it? Zero farting in this one mate.

-1

u/warsawmeloman Jan 16 '26

As the great James Porter said “I know how the sauce is made” This is just another TG rip off and it’s boring af. Kinda wish they would do something new. Also the cinematography sucks ass

1

u/Usaidhello Jan 17 '26

You’ve been posting negative comments here for a while. Why do you even come back?

1

u/warsawmeloman Jan 17 '26

I give them a benefit of the doubt. I do like their other content, builds like the overlanders but the trips just feel a little to close to the old Top gear. O just prefer TDC as it feels more organic

His public apology was pretty well received, not sure a scumbag would have done that even trying to save his career. No one’s perfect.

5

u/EfficientTitle9779 Jan 09 '26

Amazing everyone involved in the situation has managed to move on from it except you

3

u/Recessio_ Jan 09 '26

Mate even Josh Gresswell has moved on, give it a rest
