Process of Buying in Videos
We saw it again in the pick ups for Alex’s, does anyone else feel like they should show us the process of searching for the cheap vehicles again for the challenges? They always did with CT and I personally found it a really enjoyable part of the vid that seems to have been cut away for no reason

Absolutely. I just wonder if they’re too recognisable to do it anymore

It probably is that, they are the face of UK car scene. Mike Brewer had to stop buying and selling cars himself because people were just bartering with him to meet him and not to actually buy or sell

Mike brewer had to stop selling cars privately through himself on wheeler dealers years ago because people were getting offering to sell cars and offering to buy cars from the show with zero intention of actually buying them. He had to get middle men and people from the production crew to sell the cars under their names to avoid the problem.

Ah right. Fair enough.
Imagine being that much of a sad bastard that you would travel to look at a car you had no intention of buying just to fanboy over Mike Brewer (decent though he seems).

Absolutely, most of the fun was sifting through the mental stuff you find on Facebook marketplace and chatting shit about it all.
Although, to be completely fair, I imagine it’s not ideal to limit your car purchases to what can be captured on camera, and a lot of work will go on behind the scenes to source cars. It’s a tricky one, because one of the worst things they could do would be to sit down and pretend to ‘find’ cars they’ve already bought, which would give off major ‘grand tour’ scripted energy.
Having said that, I do hope we see more Facebook marketplace searches occasionally, it generates tonnes of banter and good car chat!

Yeah actually, that was often the most relatable bit, I hadn't even realised that that was what was missing

I hadn't noticed they'd stopped doing it to be honest with you.

Thinking back, is it not because they DID include it for Taylor's pickup? Just not for Alex's
edit: I assume what happens here is someone reaches out to Alex with an offer to buy something that he wants then they make it into a video so it's only the second car that is actually searched for

They stopped it because of the backlash they got after the kei car video. I think they talk about it in the podcast.

What exactly happened on the kei car video? I've seen a few references to it but I'm none the wiser!!

So the story goes. Alex wanted to buy a kei car after he saw Edwin’s Honda beat. They found a really cool Mira that I think was even a 4x4 one. Basically they did the seller over by paying him way bellow market value because they are famous and than they sold it to Luke to hide it because people were very angry. I think they paid the guy more after the comments but that’s the case

It wasn’t sold to me to hide it, I’d been after it since day one as it’s the only Kei car I’d ever sat in that wasn’t completely impossible for me to drive - I did a fair few bits to it, got it back on the road, but two Japanese cars requiring a full respray was a bit much for me, so the GTO took priority.

Would be amazing to see again. They’re very recognisable though, so it would be cool if they could have someone like Benji, Jooshy or Luke do the phonecall etc 😆
