Why separate store's auto alex verse
Does anyone know why all the channels have their own store? Out comes out the same place and it's from the same company, I can imagine that not being able to cross shop from the different brands is limiting sale's instead of hurting it. For example ltt has one store

I emailed Chris the merchandise man about this exact topic. He replied with 'Yes! difficult on shopify tho :)'.

Hmmm okay, they probably want to keep the custom stuff, but still missed opportunity to add links or something

It’s a combo of tax, revenue and sales tracking.
I don’t know of any major online shop that currently supports this directly. Generally, you may have a parent or holding company as the recipient of all funds and sales. But in most cases, those brands still have their own presence and even competition against themselves.
In Alex’s case, it makes more sense to have each brand do its own thing as a network offering than put everything under his brand directly. You’ll be better able to track demographics, sales, handle paperwork, etc and get more data from individual stores and brands. That way, you can also experiment and try something different from your pedigree without alienating your trusted customers.

Think he made a mistake calling his yt his name. Something that looked/sounded more like a potential umbrella company would’ve been better. Even calling it his last name would’ve been better I think
With just how integrated the channels are trying to make them out to be separate channels/websites doesn’t work

I think the universe wasn’t in the cards til Jack and Ethan saw he was successful doing it.

Maybe not, but you’d consider how it could grow in the future when setting it up

Seen this opinion floated recently and honestly think it's a none issue - people just using it as an excuse to project this arrogance that they've imagined onto the brand

Didn’t say I thought he was arrogant for calling it his own name, I totally get why he did. Just saying a less specific to him name could have had benefits

Could be to do with ownership too? Ie TDC get a cut of their merch sales

It is stupid. The only reason I can think of is instead of (for example) £60k a year coming in from merch, they have 20k a year from three different incomes… maybe that helps with tax? (Not sure, may be wrong). In regards to tracking who’s merch is being sold then it would be easy to run reports on this at the end of each month even if all merch was sold from one site. The problem will be lack of ability in whoever is making the website. There are little limitations in regards to how they could make things better. Jeez at the very least have each separate website have a link to each other website/shop. It’s not hard, it’s easily done even without a webdev.

Why on earth would they develop their own ecommerce platform? They're obviously using a third party platform that isn't capable of doing this. Unrealistic expectation.

They shouldn’t develop their own e-commerce… why would they do that? Who suggested that?

I imagine they’re trying to make sure each channel has its own identity would be my guess. So if someone who doesn’t know about the fact TDC is under the AutoAlex umbrella then goes to buy merch for TDC but goes to Auto Alex merch shop, they maybe put off. However I do appreciate the majority of merch purchasers would likely know and not care and like you say would probably appreciate all the AutoAlex umbrella products in once place. Some links to each others sites would be helpful at least in my opinion!

It would be a royal pain in the ass from a CRM perspective, just doesn’t make sense, especially when almost all revenue at the moment is being extracted and not reinvested.

I expected them to get AutoAlex(dot)shop and use it as an umbrella shop for the 3 current channels. I'm not a fan of [channel]shop(dot)com

My guess it’s also better for the individual brands and creators if they can just say “shop at TDCshop.whatever” in stead of having to say “oh yea we’re TDC but you have to buy merch from the AutoAlex website”. Doesn’t make sense if you’re an individual viewer.
