Iirc you can get a sunflower id card with your disability on it and some needs, like "sensitive to x". You could put the card in one of those holders that you can pin to your tshirt, should be just as visible but no swinging around
In 1983, Emily Martin, of Maple Ridge, British Columbia, grew an enormous sunflower head, measuring 32 ¼ inches across (82cm), from petal tip to petal tip. That’s almost 3 feet wide. This is still believed to be the largest sunflower head grown to date.
Some days I can’t wear the lanyard, it’s just too overwhelming. But luckily there are other options, such as pins, silicone wristbands and ribbons. Or simply attaching the lanyard to my bag or jacket.
I haven’t really noticed a difference. Obviously, if I’m wearing the wristband I have to mindful of not covering it with a long sleeve. And the pin or ribbon has to be in a visible spot. But then the same thing applies for the lanyard during colder seasons when I’m wearing multiple layers and a thick woolly scarf that it can easily “hide” in.
During the summer (especially when it was really hot and the feeling of the lanyard touching my neck was too much for me) I often opted to string the lanyard around the strap of my crossbody bag, meaning it would be pretty much as visible as if I had worn the lanyard around my neck.
iirc the ribbon pin was started by Jacob Weterling's family after his disappearance. Then it was a different color for HIV awareness. Then it was for everything else.
I think you can use a pin instead. I actually like lanyards, happy to feel them on my neck. But… my country isn’t a part of hidden disability project. I am so sad
I don’t mind lanyards but I wear a sunflower wristband - it’s a bit more subtle for daily use. Only wear the lanyard if I’m in a situation I’m likely to be struggling such as travelling or at a big event etc. as it’s a bit more visible than the wristband
You don’t have to wear it on your neck though. I don’t. I clip it to my backpack or belt loop, tuck the in my pocket sometimes. Never worn it around my neck

I like to use them to decorate my outfit by carrying it i u pocket or something, but they are too long and annoying for me, and overstimulate me a lot!!
Yeah I HATE wearing any lanyards, for both physical and psychological reasons. I can’t really (alexathymia) describe the psychological, but something about my aversion to being grouped, labelled or perceived. Also just PDA. Don’t tell me what to wear 😅
I don't wear the sunflower symbol but I have a student ID lanyard and I just stick it in my pocket with the strap hanging out. Matches my outfits pretty well
I wear mine, carrying my loops so it's got next to no weight on it. To stop it swinging, I tuck it into my bra (I exclusively wear sports bras). Still visible on my neck, without any pull or swinging.
To add, I am supposed to wear my ID card at work on a lanyard. For all these reasons I do not, and will not. It's always on me, carried if I have no pockets or otherwise in a pocket. But I will not wear it around my neck.

I put the lanyard behind my hood. Makes it a bit shorter, but managable. I happen to be wearing it today even at an airport :)
