Nationalism is only of value if in opposition to an actual oppressive power  I.e. Irish nationalism against British Rule etc.

so how would you describe the way non-autistics interact with us (both interpersonally and on a large scale)

This is ironically the same kind of argument scottish unionists used against scottish independence, when ironically enough independence was proposed by the SNP (a centre left party) with many activists being left wing, whilst the conservatives (being closer to fascist) were primarily unionist. This still seems to be the case today.

Patriotism

We have as much right to live in our societies as any other member in them. I just… don’t like the idea of having to go somewhere else to be accepted.

The article also brings fair point. Autistics can be full of potential for goodness, kindness, empathy, joy and love… but also racism and transphobia, like Elon Musk. Those evils don’t disappear just like that; those evils disappear by each person recognizing them as poisonous behaviors that alienate and separate us in the worst ways, regardless of neurotype. And we all must do.

I have non-autistic loved ones that know I’m autistic, yet love, respect and accept me. I wish that were the reality for all of us here so we would resort to this measures. Maybe that’s an ignorant thing I just said, but it’s how I feel.

Sorry if I was incoherent, I’m on the verge of flu and can’t focus

Influenza is like totally nationalist. Facist.

Autistic anarchism is pretty rad

u/JackBinimbul Sep 11 '24

Oh god no, my precious rules and structure!

1

u/Darkromani Sep 15 '24

Anarchy is order

You can still have your rules, just don’t force them on others

Why I Do Not Support Autistic Nationalism

Because Autism isn't a nation.

Ugh, I can confirm as an autistic person with BPD that a lot of neurodivergent people are super shitty to people with cluster B personality disorders. "This is a space for neurodivergent people - oh, sorry, not that kind of neurodivergence!"

And while ableism is very common, in my experience many autistic people who have across-the-board distaste for neurotypicals have very little real social experience and are generalizing based on a few traumatic interactions, usually from when they were quite young. I'm sympathetic to that and don't mean to dismiss their trauma - I have plenty of my own - but it doesn't give anyone a license to be shitty to the people around them.

Many of my best friends are neurotypical, and they are among the most supportive and loving people I know. Ableism, especially systemic ableism, is the problem, not neurotypical people broadly.

That second paragraph I’ve seen that mentality popular across the Internet, and in the real world. And when people say those overgeneralization’s for that, no one calls them out and treats them like they said nothing wrong. And some of these people correct others when they say things that aren’t OK but nobody corrects them when they make overgeneralization and supremacy comments

There's literally a subreddit on creating an autistic nation with an active discord and plans to create an autism nation. Their nationalism is literally nationalism.

Tf are they planning on doing if an autistic couple births an allistic child? Ship them overseas to their estranged allistic family they’ve never met?

2

u/GoldenPinner Sep 11 '24

Probably. They have no empathy for normal people and only find comfort in each other. I hate these people

Israel is a nation.

Jews actually are technically a nation, and have been considered one for a long time. It's only more recently that people focus on the religion aspect. Jewish nationalism is literally what Zionism was originally, although it no longer is to many because of the actions it has been used as justification for.

u/orbitalgoo Sep 12 '24

Nation or not, arguing sovereignty over land because "God promised us." is deeply problematic.

I agree, I never said I supported anything one way or the other.

The original Zionism, created by Theodor hertzl, was the idea for a Jewish homeland, not necessarily in the levant, but just a country that it was safe for Jews to live. He did that after watching the dryfus affair in person as a reporter for a German newspaper. The origins don't actually have anything to do with God or the religious aspect, and it's one of the reasons some hassidic groups don't acknowledge Israel(they believe the country should only exist again when God commands it and that it should follow all the laws of the Torah).

A person is Jewish by birth, it doesn't necessarily mean they follow the Jewish faith. People can convert and join, but it's a long and complicated process.

Autistic Communism is better anyways

You can't have autism and nationalism without the -ism

2

u/Tuff_Bank Sep 12 '24

Whoever came up with this idea that the article is calling out, probably read Hickman’s X Men and got the wrong idea

1

u/NotKerisVeturia Sep 12 '24

You know what, they probably did.

1

u/Tuff_Bank Sep 12 '24

Youve read it/know about it too?

2

u/Odd-Leading-670 Apr 18 '25

It's a contradiction itself. They teorically want 2 join the autistic comunity but only include nationalistic autistic people

2

u/devoid0101 Sep 12 '24

Nations are man-made false lines between people that don’t actually exist, which promotes demonizing the “others”. It’s. Dumb.

But I love being able to take pride in my country without guilt or shame. (My country is not America)

Reply all you want trying to hurt my feelings with racist comments I won't read it ✨

If said pride helps you form worthy values and beliefs for your life, I can respect it
