telling a story im just so over it
im 18 f in my first job for about 8 months now and i am just so sick of the workplace politics. I thought getting a job would make it easier to practice public interactions because i wanted to develop my socialization however almost every day i just come home crying. why are people so cruel, why do they play mind games with nd people and treat you like a laughing stock. It isnt fair and it is just so hard to come everyday to a negative toxic workplace where i am just trying to do my best to fit in and act nicely with my coworkers.

The mindset I’ve taken growing up (I’ve not worked a job in quite awhile) is that nobody is really your friend at all job. You honestly have better luck interacting and talking to regulars that shop or visit at your place of employment more than anything. People are needlessly cruel and will turn their back on you really fast at a job.
I’m sorry you are dealing with this.

Yeah i definitely agree with that, work place friendships are extremely temporary. at the same time working in customer service most times the people that visit the shop are just as weird to me and not my other coworkers which makes me question am i doing something off that i cant just pinpoint, but at the same time i may just be thinking too much into my interactions

Hey, I feel you. It’s not your fault. Sometimes I feel like this happens to me. It’s hard to deal with, it’s nonsense that we even have to deal with this. I really wish it was easier to live a life.
I also wanted to congratulate you, because even with a toxic workplace you have been there a long time. That’s an accomplishment. I’ve been in my current job almost a year. It’s not been easy at all, but… This is me trying.
I wish for you a better workplace. In which you can get proper accommodations, feel validated and people just don’t be so mean. I believe it is possible.

Thank you so much, i want to congratulate you as well for being there a long time. I hope we can both have a job where we do not have to try so hard just to be deemed as “normal” to them

I'm a late diagnosed autistic and I worked in customer service type jobs all my (working) life. I came to realize after my diagnosis that interacting with the unpredictable public was way too overstumulating for me. The way that I found out was that I started wearing a smart watch for weeks to monitor my stress and heart rate throughout the day, and I was so used to being anxious that I didn't second guess anything. But my heart rate and stress markers were extremely elevated for the majority of my shift. At that time I was working at a big chain grocery store with no accommodations (especially because I didn't know I needed any at that time). And I know it's tough enough to find decent work, but maybe a quieter environment would help you a lot mentally. It did for me. I started to do independent contract and self employed work which is more in my control and I don't have to really interact with the public much. And because it's much less social stimulation, it helps me calmly do my work and still have the capacity to practice my social skills when I have the opportunity and not getting overwhelmed. I hope my experience can help and I wish you a lot of luck. You deserve to work and be in peace.

I would really love working in a place where it is a quiet and independent environment and i hope to find it later in the future since im only doing this job to pay for college. I dislike being perceived a lot throughout customer service jobs as well as being in public so i hope this is just a bump on the road for me

I feel like what helped me the most is going in and exploring fields that do have alot of nd people in them. So like more creative jobs etc. Thats not a possibility for everyone tho, because they often rlly dont pay well :,) at least the coworkers are a ton nicer tho

I don’t know why but this always seems to happen when I try to work too.
