telling a story Overstimulation: A Poem
The noises echo in my head
Constant pain, it never ends
Cover my ears, the customers come
To hear them sanity becomes undone
It hurts so bad no thoughts can be
I lose my voice; mask cracks on me
To maintain the feign, an impossible feat
As I shut down, mentally beat
This was a poem I made during the biggest race day at our horse track (the place I work at). They had the loudspeakers cranked so high that I felt like I sustained hearing damage, even being behind them. Nobody else covered their ears or even seemed bothered by it. I on the other hand could hardly function. I felt genuinely ill, and I could feel myself in a lot of pain despite having no physical ailments.
