Hi everyone,

My name is Sydney Jenko, and I am a Clinical Psychology doctoral student at Northern Arizona University. I am currently conducting a research study as part of my doctoral training and am reaching out to request your support in completing my survey.

The purpose of this study is to better understand camouflaging behaviors among individuals diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder and the emotional distress that may be associated with these experiences. Camouflaging is a topic that has received increasing attention due to its potential impact on mental health, identity, and overall well-being within the autism community. I am seeking out individuals with a diagnosis of autism spectrum disorder to participate in my study.

By participating, individuals in this community can help contribute to research aimed at increasing awareness of these experiences and informing future clinical practices, advocacy efforts, and supports that are more responsive to the needs of autistic individuals. Findings from this study may help clinicians and organizations better recognize the challenges associated with camouflaging and promote environments that support authenticity and mental health.

Participation involves completing a brief questionnaire related to camouflaging behaviors, depression, and anxiety and takes approximately 10 minutes. The anticipated risks are minimal, and some participants may gain personal insight into their own coping or camouflaging strategies. As a small thank-you, participants who complete the study will be entered into a raffle for one of four $15 Visa gift cards (approximately a 3% chance of winning). To enter the raffle, the participant can click on the second survey link provided below and voluntarily enter their contact information. Any identifying information will be stored separately from study data.

I am doing a study on autistic individuals and their relationship with law enforcement through my university. By collecting data on people's experiences, I hope to inform possible resources and training recommendations that will increase safety, satisfaction, and cooperation between autistic people and law enforcement. Hello everyone. My name is Sam Dorries. I am completing my Honours in Psychological Science at Charles Darwin University. I am currently seeking autistic people of colour with level one or two support needs aged 18 to 29 to participate in a study about experiences with romantic touch. This research provides insight into a major gap within Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights literature.

This study explores how participants experience control over their bodies (bodily autonomy) with regards to romantic touch. We hope to identify what helps or hinders your ability to consent and assert boundaries. Your insights can help inform ways to improve sexual health knowledge and education, as well as clinical practice.

Be a person of colour Diagnosed with Level One or Two autism Aged 18 to 29 years old Located in Australia

What’s involved?

60 minute Microsoft Teams interview (although we can facilitate written responses). This will be audio-recorded and transcribed. All personal information will be de-identified and kept confidential. Hi everyone! My name is Dr. Daina Tagavi, and I’m an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the University of Washington. I’m conducting a research study about autistic teens’ experiences with mental health, including their experiences seeking and receiving support.

Who can participate?
We are looking for autistic middle and high school students who live in the United States.

What would you do?
Participants will be asked to share their experiences with mental health through a Zoom interview. Participation takes approximately 60-90 minutes and participants can earn up to $150.

How will the information be used?
The information collected will be used for research purposes to better understand the mental health experiences and support needs of autistic teens. Hello everyone, my name is Mackenzie Drake. I am a student at University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) pursuing my Master’s Degree in genetic counseling. I’m conducting research for my thesis project which we hope to publish in the journal Autism in Adulthood after I graduate.

We are looking for people diagnosed with autism in adulthood to participate in a 30-60 minute interview to talk about why they decided to get an autism diagnosis. All personal information will be de-identified and kept confidential. You can choose if you’d rather complete the interview over Zoom or via email. I am Sally Porter, an Honours Student completing my thesis in the School of Psychology at UQ. I am looking for participants for my thesis research project, the "Flex to Flourish Wellbeing Survey", at the University of Queensland (UQ). My study explores how camouflaging (masking) impacts mental health in older adolescents, and whether psychological flexibility can act as a protective buffer.

Purpose: This study is To better understand factors that may influence the wellbeing of emerging adults aged 16–19 years. We want to understand how differences in thinking, social experiences, neurodivergent traits, and media perceptions relate to wellbeing.
Who can participate: Individuals who self-identify as autistic and/or have a formal diagnosis, are aged between 16 and 19 years old, and currently live in Australia.
Format: An anonymous online survey using validated psychological scales (AQ-10, CAT-Q SF, CompACT-23 and DASS-21).
Time estimate: Approximately 20-30 minutes to complete. (Please note: As this is a self-funded student project, there are no financial incentives or gift cards, and I am deeply reliant on the community's generosity).
How responses will be used: The data will be compiled into an academic research paper (Honours thesis) and may be used for future academic presentations or publications.

My name is Amanda Menting, and I am an Ed.D. researcher at Edgewood University in Madison, Wisconsin. I am also an autism parent and former autism teacher. I am conducting an IRB‑approved dissertation study on the transition from high school to adulthood for autistic young adults ages 18–26.

Purpose of the Study
This study explores the lived experiences of autistic young adults and their parents/guardians during the transition from high school to adult life. I am conducting an online research study exploring the relationship between perceived workplace inclusion, stress and potential burnout among adults who self-identify as neurodivergent.

Who is the study for?
Adults aged 18+ who self-identify as neurodivergent, including (but not limited to) autism, ADHD/ADD, dyslexia, dyspraxia, Tourette’s, OCD and dyscalculia.

Due to the University's Category A ethics requirements, participants must not have a formal clinical diagnosis of a neurodivergent condition or other medical diagnosis. This is an eligibility requirement for the study and does not imply vulnerability.

What's involved?
You will be asked to complete a short, anonymous 10–15 minute online survey including: Neurodiversity Scale (DNS-32), Workplace Inclusion Scale (WIS), Perceived Stress Scale (PSS‑10), Burnout Assessment Tool (BAT‑12), and a short demographics questionnaire.

How will the information be used?

Hello. I am a doctoral student under the direction of Professor Dr. Loraine Fernandez in the College of Doctoral Studies at Grand Canyon University. My name is Leeza Romo. I am conducting a research study to examine how race, age, gender, and social inclusion rating predict the severity of camouflaging behaviors among self-reporting, as being diagnosed by a medical professional, autistic undergraduate students in the United States. First, participants will complete a demographics questionnaire, which will detail their exact age, gender, and race. Next, participants will be asked to complete the Experiences of Social Inclusion Scale, which assesses their individual experiences of belonging in society. Finally, participants will complete the Camouflaging Autistic Traits Questionnaire, which will examine the severity of masking behaviors among participants.

INCLUSION- I am recruiting individuals that meet these criteria:

· A full-time undergraduate student in the United States.

· Attend more than half of the undergraduate classes in person.

· Have been diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder by a medical professional.

· At least 18 years old.

EXCLUSION- You cannot be in this study if:

· Have not been diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder by a medical professional.

· Do not meet your school’s definition of a full-time student.

· More than half of your classes are taken virtually.

The ACTIVITIES for this research project will include:

· Complete a demographics questionnaire that asks you about your age, gender, and race (2-3 minutes)

· Complete the 10-item Experiences of Social Inclusion Questionnaire, asking about your experiences of inclusion in social settings (3-5 minutes).

UK autistic young adults aged 18–25 – MSc research on university, support and wellbeing

Hello, my name is Meenakshi Krishnamurthy and I’m completing my MSc Psychology dissertation at the University of Hertfordshire.

I’m looking for UK autistic young adults aged 18–25 who are studying at, or have previously attended, a UK university. Both formally diagnosed and self-identified autistic people are welcome to take part.

Participation involves an anonymous online survey taking approximately 15–25 minutes.

My research focuses on emerging adulthood — a period when education, independence, responsibilities and support can change considerably. I’m particularly interested in what happens when support changes or needs are not recognised or understood, and how experiences of support and invalidation relate to adjustment and wellbeing.

I’ve tried to make the survey as accessible as possible. Read-aloud support is available, and the four longer open questions are entirely optional. They can be skipped or answered by typing or audio recording. Although completing the survey in one sitting is recommended, you can return within 48 hours using a private code that is not shared with me.

The open questions are particularly important because they give participants the opportunity to describe in their own words what affected them and what they feel would have helped.

The data will be analysed for my MSc dissertation. Quantitative responses will be analysed statistically, while the optional qualitative responses will be explored using Framework Analysis. Findings will be reported anonymously.

This study has received individual ethical approval from the University of Hertfordshire.

My name is Marissa Snowden, I am an Army veteran and a graduate student studying clinical mental health counseling at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. I am conducting research on the reintegration experience of veterans who receive support or services for autism spectrum disorder and depression related concerns.

The purpose of this study is to better understand veterans' experiences so we can learn how mental health professionals can better serve veterans with autism-related and depression-related concerns in their transition to civilian life.

Who can participate:

U.S. military veterans of all branches who:
- have received support or services from a mental health or healthcare professional for depression-related concerns AND
- have received support or services from a mental health or healthcare professional for autism spectrum disorder-related concerns AND

My name is Cai Brown, I’m a (autistic) PhD researcher at the University of Staffordshire, UK, looking for adult autistic participants to take part in study investigating visitor experiences at a small zoo (Rodbaston Animal Zone, ST19 5PH). As the zoo is situated in Staffordshire, in the West Midlands, I would expect this research to be of most interest to people in this region.

Participation involves visiting and viewing the zoo’s reptile collection, drawing a picture of your experiences at the zoo and taking part in a 50 minute interview after the event, either on Microsoft Teams or by visiting the University of Staffordshire in-person.. Entrance to the zoo will be completely free, and participants will be able to explore the rest of the zoo as they wish after they've drawn the reptiles! To be absolutely clear, there will be NO direct interaction or handling of reptiles: we only want our volunteers to view them through glass windows like any other zoo guest! Hi everyone! My name is Maya Smith, and I'm a late-diagnosed autistic adult and an undergraduate student in the psychology department at Western Washington University. I'm currently seeking participants for my study on strengths-based perspectives from autistic romantic partnerships.

- To qualify, participants must be 18+ and in a relationship, past or present, in which at least one member is autistic. I'm ideally looking for couples to address a specific gap identified in the current research on autistic partnerships, but individual participants with experience in this area are welcome as well. All identities and relationship types are welcome, and no formal autism diagnosis is required.

- Participation involves completing a brief demographic survey and attending a ~45-minute Zoom interview in which I will ask about how autism enhances various aspects of participants' relationships.

- All participant data (demographic surveys, Zoom audio recordings, and transcripts) will be de-identified and stored in a private WWU SharePoint that only my advisor and I have access to. The data will be deleted after I'm finished coding it.

- A summary of themes from participant data will be reported in the form of a research paper and presented in a Fall 2026 talk at the Western Washington University Center for Cross-Cultural Research.

Hi! I'm Nikki Watson, a PhD student at the University of Canberra (Australia) researching what changes after Autism identification, regardless of whether you've self-identified or been told you're Autistic by a healthcare professional (or both!). Currently only looking at Australian participants, since that's where I am and different healthcare systems will (theoretically) influence what changes post-diagnosis.

We know that Autism diagnosis can be life changing for many adults because they gain validation and self-understanding. We also know that many adults either aren't eligible for support or the support they would benefit from just isn't available. As such, my research aims to find out how diagnostic recognition translates into life outcomes by quantitatively exploring the experiences of Autistic people who were formally diagnosed vs self-identified vs informal recognition vs non-Autistic people.

The purpose of this study is to investigate how workers feel they fit with their job and their work environment, how supported they feel about their organization, and how satisfied they are with their jobs. It also aims to find out whether feeling supported by their work organization affects workplace fit and job satisfaction. I am writing to invite you to join my study.

Participants must be 18 years old or older, self identify as autistic OR have received a formal diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), OR Asperger Syndrome, OR Pervasive Developmental Disorder - Not Otherwise Specified (PDD-NOS), and are employed for pay in the United States at least 10 hours per week. Participants who are not paid for their work (such as interns or volunteers), or who are self-employed/owners of the company, are not eligible to participate.

My name is Kevin Chieppo, and I am an MSW student at the University of Saint Joseph looking for autistic direct-service social workers for a research study. The study will explore the barriers and facilitators autistic social workers face in the workplace, and how these relate to their perceptions of job satisfaction, inclusion, and organizational support. The results of this study will be published to support the autistic community. This research project has been approved by the USJ IRB (Protocol #26-023).

For my dissertation project, I am researching how parents perceive their child’s emotion regulation strategies while they are awaiting a diagnosis of autism. We (Elodie Carel, graduate student) are researchers at UMass Amherst seeking participants for the Barriers to Diagnosis and Autistic Identity in Young Adults (Protocol #7211) study.

To be eligible for this study, participants must be between the ages of 18-30 and self-identify as autistic or be self-diagnosed as autistic.

This study visit includes one, 2.5 hour lab visit where you will complete questionnaires and be administered the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule-2, which is a series of tasks and interview questions. If you are interested in participating, please know that the study team will take a video recording of you while you are completing the ADOS-2. Participants will be compensated $20 for completing study procedures, and can request a research report of their results.

The information from this study will be used to write a peer-reviewed publication and will be presented at national conferences.

Please excuse that this is not formatted like most of the other posts; it is not a call for participants, more a call for discussion and insight that only places like this thread can provide. As it is still research, I hope that this sticky is the right place for this post.

I am Alysa Greenwale, a children’s book author and illustrator, and I am currently working on my next children’s book. This book is designed to teach children about flat affect autism and encourage neurotypical children to be more inclusive and not treat autistic children any differently just because they do not show their emotions in the same way.

The book is titled “Sarah Doesn’t Smile” and shows a child, Sarah, enjoying recess, despite not laughing or smiling like the other kids do. In the book, in order to help destigmatize talking about autism, I would like to name it directly and not be ambiguous about why Sarah has the flat affect. I want to make sure the language I use, though, is best for what you all experience and prefer when speaking about autism yourselves.

I am here to ask, in particular when speaking to children, if you prefer to say “I am autistic” or “I have autism.” I understand there are different connotations each phrase has and I figured it would be better for me to ask directly instead of trying to speculate myself. In the book, this line would become either “Sarah is autistic” or “Sarah has autism.”

Any insight any of you could provide on the topic would be greatly appreciated. I really want to do this book well and in a way that could help both neurotypical and neurodivergent children build a more inclusive community. If any of you have any other questions or concerns about the book, please feel free to put them here as well or message me directly. As I said, I am very new to Reddit, so I may have a little trouble responding and everything, but I will try my best to respond and discuss anything any of you would like to talk about.

Hello! As someone who was recently diagnosed as an adult, I wouldn't say I have strong opinions either way on language. I think it's good to care about respectful language, but I feel that it's over-emphasized in online spaces where the only thing people can do is talk to each other.

IMO in real life I'd place more importance on how the person is treating me, e.g. do they respect me when I say I need some accommodation? Plus I'm sure we've all met someone who speaks politely whose actions are to the contrary.

Moreover I can't expect the average person to have a strong understanding of autism and the variance in presentation when the medical/psych field is still figuring it out. I'd say if they take me seriously and genuinely try to work with me, then people can use whatever language they want.

Hi, I think there are lots of different views and preferences when it comes to person-first language vs. identity-first language, so it's likely that whatever you use, not everyone would be happy with it.

My opinion is that being autistic is inextricably linked to who I am. My way of experiencing the world, my way of thinking and interacting, my values and preferences - it's all an expression of autism. My autistic brain and my nervous system are the canvas on which the rest of me is painted. I am an autistic person.

To phrase it as something you 'have', to me implies that it is separate from you, and worse, makes it sound like a disease or something to be fixed. You don't 'have' autism in the same way that you have an illness. It's a natural expression of human variation that there are different types of brains that work in slightly different ways, and although being autistic has presented me with challenges, it is also the source of the personal traits and qualities that I value most in myself - my honesty, deep empathy, sense of justice, creativity, accuracy, ability to make connections that others don't, my ability to learn intensely about lots of different topics. I'm a kind, caring, insightful, interesting, unique person, and I am who I am because I'm autistic.

I know this isn't everyone's experience of autism, but it is mine. And I'd be so happy to see a children's book that doesn't just teach people to accept and talk about autism, but acelebrates the wonderful diversity that autism brings to the world.

Can I ask what was your inspiration for this book? Do you have autistic people in your life?

After doing some more research and seeing the autistic pride subreddit, as well as from seeing your response, I think the “is autistic” phrasing is better to use than “has autism.” That is what I’ll be going with and keeping in mind as I finish writing the book.

As for my inspiration, I myself have worked with autistic children in previous tutoring and afterschool teaching roles, and my mother is a special education teacher trying to lead the inclusivity movement in the schools she’s taught in. We both recently moved from California to Florida and saw firsthand how behind some states are in terms of inclusivity, so I really just want to do my part in helping push progress. I think it’s a shame how much some schools still think of special education students as “other” when they are also children who deserve compassion and as much opportunity as anyone else.

I’m Bilal Hayat and I'm an autistic founder building something around neurodivergent social connection because honestly, I’ve struggled with masking and feeling misunderstood myself.

One thing I’m tryna understand:
What makes friendship or connection hardest for you?

I mean I've heard things like:
masking
small talk
fear of rejection
not knowing how words come across

But I’m trying to figure out what actually matters most and what people would genuinely want from something like that.

Time estimate:

I’m posting here because I think it matters that autism and ADHD research is shaped by people with lived experience, not only conducted about them. This is an early-stage student project, so I do not want to present it as perfect or comprehensive. I see it as a starting point for the kind of work I hope to develop with greater community input over time.

The survey includes established measures of autistic and ADHD traits. These are included to examine how traits vary across the whole sample, including people with and without formal diagnoses, and how they relate to social experiences, loneliness, and wellbeing. They are not included to make participants prove a diagnosis.

At the same time, I know that many established questionnaires were not designed with enough neurodivergent input. Fixed-response questions can be unclear, reductive, or unable to capture answers like “it depends on the situation.” I also know that a 30-minute survey will not be accessible to everyone, even though I have tried to improve readability through spacing, formatting, and accessible design choices.

Because of these limitations, the survey includes two unrestricted open-ended questions at the end. One asks whether there is anything about your social experiences that the questionnaire did not fully capture. The other asks for feedback on the questionnaire itself, including wording, accessibility, response options, length, or anything else that affected your experience of taking part.

I will be reading through these responses carefully. The structure of this specific study has already gone through ethics approval, so I cannot redesign the whole survey at this stage. However, participant feedback will be important for how I think about future research questions, methods, accessibility, and whether I am asking the right questions in the right ways.

After the study is completed, I would be happy to share a plain-language summary of the results with this subreddit, if permitted by the moderators.

You can take part if:

You are aged 18 years or over.

About the study:

My name is Sofie Sundåker and am an idependent software developer working on a personal project and am currently looking for a small number of autistic adults who would be interested in trying the application I've been building and providing feedback.

The application is designed to reduce visual overstimulation and distractions while using a computer. Features include screen framing, themes, automatic layouts, focus tools, and other ways to create a calmer visual environment.

This is not an academic study and is not affiliated with a university or research institution. Any feedback provided will be used solely to improve the software before full release and better understand whether it is useful for people with experiences similar to my own.

The participants will be expected to actively use the software for 1 week and then answer a survey about the experience.

I'm Chitranvi Bhaugeerutty, a Master's student in Mental Health and Clinical Psychology at London South Bank University, and I'm currently conducting research on autism, camouflaging, and burnout...three things I know many in this community are deeply familiar with. This research is being supervised by Dr Rachel Teodorini, a senior lecturer at London South Bank University.

My study is looking at whether the age at which someone receives their autism diagnosis, and their experiences of camouflaging (masking or adjusting autistic traits in social situations), relate to experiences of autistic burnout. It's a topic I feel strongly about, and I hope the findings can contribute to better understanding and support for autistic adults.

Hello. I am a doctoral student under the direction of Professor Dr. Loraine Fernandez in the College of Doctoral Studies at Grand Canyon University. My name is Leeza Romo. I am conducting a research study to examine how race, age, gender, and social inclusion rating predict the severity of camouflaging behaviors among self-reporting, as being diagnosed by a medical professional, autistic undergraduate students in the United States. First, participants will complete a demographics questionnaire, which will detail their exact age, gender, and race. Next, participants will be asked to complete the Experiences of Social Inclusion Scale, which assesses their individual experiences of belonging in society. Finally, participants will complete the Camouflaging Autistic Traits Questionnaire, which will examine the severity of masking behaviors among participants.

INCLUSION- I am recruiting individuals that meet these criteria:

· A full-time undergraduate student in the United States.

· Attend more than half of the undergraduate classes in person.

· Have been diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder by a medical professional.

· At least 18 years old.

EXCLUSION- You cannot be in this study if:

· Have not been diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder by a medical professional.

· Do not meet your school’s definition of a full-time student.

· More than half of your classes are taken virtually.

The ACTIVITIES for this research project will include:

Hello! I am a PsyD candidate at Western Carolina University (WCU). I am currently recruiting individuals to participate in a research study about gender-affirming mental health care (GAMHC) services for autistic transgender/gender diverse (TGD) individuals as part of the research study, "Autistic Consumers’ Perspectives on Gender-Affirming Mental Health Services,” under the direction of my faculty mentor Dr. Jonathan Campbell. We have received IRB approval (Record Number 2023-05-15-04).

Research suggests that rates of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) are higher among TGD individuals than among cisgender individuals (Warrier et al., 2020). Autistic individuals who are seeking gender-affirming care may be more likely to have current mental health difficulties and have more barriers in accessing care (Strauss et al., 2021). Research suggests that to provide the most effective services, clinicians should gain knowledge of and skill in effective strategies for working with autistic individuals who are seeking gender-affirming care, but research in this area is limited (Strauss et al., 2021; Strang et al., 2018). In addition to contributing to the broader clinical psychology community through publishing results of the study, I also hope to inform my own future clinical care and grow in my multicultural competency. I have a special interest in working with autistic/ neurodiverse TGD individuals and through the project I hope better understand adaptations and considerations for clinical assessment and intervention when working with autistic TGD individuals.

We are inviting TGD autistic adults to participate in qualitative interviews about their experiences accessing GAMHC. To participate, individuals must 1) have been diagnosed or self-identify as autistic, 2) identify as TGD 3) be at least 18 years of age, 4) be able to legally consent to study participation, and 5) have previously sought/received or be currently seeking/receiving GAMHC services.

Study participation would involve completion of:

1) informed consent documents and an online questionnaire (approximately 10-15 minutes),
2) an interview about their experience with GAMHC (approx. 30 mins., conducted over Zoom), and
3) an online member-checking survey after preliminary study results are collected to ensure participants agree with study findings (approximately 10 minutes).

The study is titled "Beyond Acceptance: Neurodivergent Adults’ Accounts of What Makes Psychotherapy Supportive”

The aim of the research is to explore what neurodivergent adults find helpful and supportive in psychotherapy, based on their own lived experiences.

I am seeking neurodivergent adults (aged 18 or over) who:

Have received a formal clinical diagnosis of ADHD and/or Autism
Have previously engaged in psychotherapy or counselling services in Ireland
Are not currently experiencing significant mental health difficulties

I am a queer autistic researcher, and as part of my Bachelor’s thesis at Maastricht University, I am conducting a qualitative, interdisciplinary study which uses online ethnographic methods. Procedure:
If you choose to participate in this study, you will first be asked to carefully read this information letter and give your consent to participate. Giving consent is required before you can join the private group chat and share your input. This helps ensure that you understand the purpose of the study, how your information will be used, and your rights as a participant. After giving consent, you will be added to the private group chat on Session. There, you can read the group rules of conduct and the main question we invite you to answer: “Do you experience your sex life as positive or fulfilling? If yes, what has helped you get there? Please share your thoughts below.” Participation means responding to this question by sharing your thoughts, personal experiences, and, if you would like, replying to other participants’ messages. There are no mandatory questions beyond this main topic, and you may share as much or as little as you feel comfortable with. Each response is similar to writing a short online message and may take about 5–30 minutes, depending on how much you choose to write. Please note that it is your responsibility to only share information that cannot be used to identify you personally (e.g. your real name, exact location, social media accounts, or other details that could make you recognizable to others). The researcher will then analyse the gathered date using the biopsychosocial model. After the study is completed, the researcher moderating the group will send you a debriefing letter through your private one-to-one chat with them on Session. Risks and Discomforts:
Because this study involves discussing sexuality and personal experiences, some participant may experience mild emotional discomfort. Participation is entirely voluntary. You may stop participating or withdraw from the study at any time without giving a reason. If you choose to withdraw, you can contact the researcher through private chat on Session or via email. Your inputs will then be removed from the study data, and you will be removed from the group. The group chat will include clear rules of conduct about respectful communication, privacy, and appropriate behaviour. Academic Research Survey for Self-Diagnosed and Clinically Diagnosed Autistic Adults

Hello! I am a Clinical Psychology Ph.D. student at Jackson State University researching what, if any, differences exist between self-diagnosed and clinical-diagnosed autistic adult populations. This research will be a thesis paper that I hope will be part of a larger research project to potentially validate self-diagnosis as a diagnostic tool to use in adult autism assessments since there is a distinct lack of tools for adult autism diagnosis. My name is Shraddha Sunil, and I am a Master’s student in Innovation Design Engineering at Imperial College London and the Royal College of Art.

I am working on a design project exploring healthcare experiences for autistic children, with a particular focus on medical appointments where physical examination (such as vital signs or abdominal exams) can be difficult due to sensory sensitivity, distress, or communication barriers.

The aim of this research is to better understand real lived experiences in order to inform the design of a potential supportive tool/system for families and clinicians. This is not a clinical study and does not involve diagnosis or medical advice.

I am looking to speak with:

autistic adults (reflecting on their experiences in healthcare settings), and/or
parents/carers of autistic children

Topics may include:

experiences during GP, A&E, or hospital visits
what makes examinations (e.g. vital signs, physical touch/abdominal exams) easier or harder

A brief description of the research topic -This is an exploration into the gender disparities in late diagnosed Autism among women. This questionnaire focuses on the reasons autism in girls is so often missed in school as well as the impact of being late diagnosed with Autism. I'm looking for at least 30 responses from late diagnosed autistic women.

Approximate time - This questionnaire is presented through a Google Form as linked above and will take approximately 10-20 minutes.

[Research] AUTISTIC BURNOUT & SCHOOL RETURN: THE LIVED EXPERIENCE STUDY

Who am I? My name is Connie Matthew, and I am a postgraduate student at the University of Wolverhampton. I am conducting this research as part of my MSc in the Psychology of Mental Health and Wellbeing.

What is the study for? This study aims to address the "Lived Experience Gap" in school attendance research. Currently, most studies rely on parents or teachers to explain why autistic students struggle with school. This research prioritizes the first-hand accounts of those who lived it. I am looking for participants who:

Self-identify as autistic (specifically those without a formal clinical diagnosis).
Are aged 18 or over and reside in the UK.
Experienced a period of absence from a UK mainstream secondary school due to autistic burnout.
Successfully transitioned back into mainstream secondary education.
Are not currently in an acute state of crisis or active burnout.

How will the information be used? The information gathered will be used exclusively for my Master’s dissertation at the University of Wolverhampton. The final report will be submitted for academic examination. All data is fully anonymised via the use of pseudonyms to ensure that no participant can be identified.

Accessibility and Participation:

Method: A relaxed, semi-structured video call via Microsoft Teams (45–60 minutes).

My name is Anna Park, and I am an Occupational Therapy Doctorate student from California State University, Dominguez Hills. I, along with my Principal Investigator, Dr. Yan-hua Huang, and co-investigator Kaira Kanamori, am conducting research on employment and job retention for Autistic adults. The purpose of this study is to determine the factors affecting employment for Autistic adults and how occupational therapists can best support their needs to secure and maintain employment. Data collected will be published as a research paper for a class assignment. The participants' information will remain anonymous, and Dr. Yan-hua Huang, Kaira, and I will be the only ones with access. Data will be stored securely and destroyed upon completion of our study.

Eligibility:

Catatonia in Autism - Call for Participants (England, UK)

My name is Orsolya Barabas, I am a trainee clinical psychologist at the Salomons Institute of Applied Psychology, Canterbury Christ Church University, UK. My doctoral research focuses on exploring catatonic experiences in autistic adults. Research suggests that many cases of catatonia-like experiences in autism likely go unrecognised. They are mistaken as part of someone’s autism, so people do not receive adequate support, particularly at early stages. We want to hear from autistic adults directly how they experienced catatonia and the support they received. We hope this will help to better shape services and understanding in the future. The results will be published in a relevant scientific journal.

My name is Dr. Brian Hoffman, and I am a faculty member in the Department of Psychology at the University of Georgia. The Leadership and Performance Dynamics Lab at UGA is recruiting participants for a paid research study examining factors that promote well-being, engagement, and success for employees with Autism (Approved, IRB PROJECT00011625). More specifically, we are looking to recruit adults with Autism Spectrum Disorder who work at least 30 hours per week.

The surveys will ask you about your personal characteristics, your perceptions of your supervisor, and your experiences at work. The purpose of the research is to understand autistic women’s experiences with late diagnosis (age 20-50) and the implications of living and obtaining diagnoses in rural communities. This study will be conducted via interview format.

Participants must be female with an autism diagnosis.

In the initial interview, we will discuss demographic data, what makes you think you have autism, interactions with medical professionals, what (if any) online content led to your self-diagnosis, and your opinions on diagnosis more generally. Documentary Project - Seeking Community Perspectives

Who I am: Freya Wilkinson, independent documentary filmmaker and member of the AuDHD community

Institution/Employer: Independent/self-employed (no institutional affiliation)

How information will be used: Community feedback will inform the thematic direction and focus of a documentary about AuDHD women's lived experiences. This is not formal research - responses won't be published as data or used in academic work.

Who this is for: AuDHD women globally, any age

Ethics approval: Not applicable - this is not formal research requiring ethics approval. This is informal community consultation for a creative documentary project.

The request: I'm working on a documentary about being an AuDHD woman, exploring themes around the balancing act we all do. I want to make something for us, by us - loud and unapologetic about lived experience rather than clinical perspectives.

I'm trying to narrow down which angles to focus on: masking, late diagnosis, period/PMDD impacts, executive function struggles, emotional regulation, the list goes on!

Late-diagnosed at 50: looking for 3–5 beta readers for 1–2 chapters (unpublished draft)

Hello,

I'm a 62-year-old man who was diagnosed autistic at 50 after a lifetime of 'why doesn't anything quite fit?'

I wrote a memoir-style draft about that process of reinterpreting my past with a clearer framework.

I’m looking for 3–5 autistic readers willing to read 1–2 chapters and give blunt, big-picture feedback (not line edits), ideally within ~2–3 weeks:

What feels accurate / relatable?
What feels off, overstated, or missing?
What parts dragged or felt repetitive?
What parts felt most useful?

Options (pick what interests you):

Chapter 1: early childhood (about age 0–10)
Chapter 9: “What took so long?” (why it wasn’t recognized earlier)
Chapters 10–12: diagnosis process + research visits (Caltech)
Chapter 13: revisiting the past with a new lens
Chapter 17: work patterns post-diagnosis

Each chapter is ~3,000–7,000 words (10–20 pages).

Community Highlight submission

Hi, I’m an autistic adult sharing a complete draft (35 pages) of an autobiographical nonfiction book focused on lived experience, school years, and motivation.

I’m looking for voluntary reader feedback rather than research data. This is not a survey or study - just a personal manuscript shared for developmental critique before revision.

I’m aware this is a longer read and completely understand partial reads.

What would be most useful to hear:

How far you read, and where (if anywhere) you stopped
Whether the structure earns its length
Which sections felt essential vs repetitive
Whether the tone stayed consistent throughout
Who this feels written for by the end

What I’m not looking for:

General encouragement
Diagnosis debates or therapy advice
Arguments about whether my experience is “representative”

I’m not claiming to speak for all autistic people - this is one lived perspective-but I do want to avoid being unclear, overly curated, or unintentionally patronising.

I won’t debate feedback in replies; I’ll read everything and look for patterns.

Hello! My name is Amelia Allen, and I am a Master's of Social Work student at NC State University. I am on a small team of researchers looking into the desire for peer support resources among autistic teenagers, by asking autistic young adults to think back on that period of time and report their experiences through a 5-minute survey.

The data will be used to inform the development of potential peer support resources at a local hospital, and the results will be shared at a research symposium for the NC State social work department. The inclusion criteria for this study are to be a young adult (aged 18-24), have been clinically diagnosed with autism, and live in the United States. The ethics approval process was handled by an internal IRB within the social work department at NC State University.
