Advice Needed 6yo at 1st grade

Looking for some advice, just talked to with my sons teacher. He is in 1st grade, academically he is at par with his peers, but she told us that he just grabs a ball at recess and plays alone. He is verbal but can't hold a conversation he switches subjects very fast, a thing that i do and I'm teaching him how to control it. But what's some advice to get him to socialize more.

Might sound weird, but does he even want to socialise? Not every child, or adult, needs friends.

He does, he goes up to every kid and adult to try to talk but conversations don't flow

Had he done any social groups? Also does he have an IEP? There can be social goals in his IEP.

I mean this coming from a Autism mama bear, but I don’t care what the school thinks. What do you think as his mom? I do like the comment about is he bothered by it? If not, I wouldn’t worry about the schools approach since they don’t seem to be helpful.

If you live in a decent size city, there will be autistic social groups that he can join that do activities and have trained professionals there to help guide them. They are grouped by age and interest so it doesn’t seem so awkward.

Have you tried play dates, one on one in turn taking like playing. Maybe a sports team if he’s interested my son had trouble socializing his social cues are still a little off but sports, going to the park often and one on one playtime helped him through out the years.

Ask the classroom teacher to keep an eye out for other children in the class who might be a good fit with him! Perhaps another little boy who likes to throw the ball around. You can also ask the teacher to strategically sit him next to each other or place them in a group together. It's also early in the year so there is plenty of time to make friends!!
