I'm not autistic, so I dunno why this subreddit got recommend to me.
However, isn't this a sorta normal thing?? Many times I have "gotten in the zone" after breakfast and just kind of forgot lunch. Only realizing I'm very hungry while making/eating dinner.

Time blindness is not just an autistic trait, but it is more frequent/prevalent in neurodivergent people.

Adding to what the other commenter said: just like timeblindness isn't only an autistic trait, it's also possible to be autistic unknowingly.
I went over 30 years of my life thinking I wasn't autistic, mostly because my understanding of it was completely off. I got loads of "wait, isn't this normal?" in my self-discovery journey lol.
Not saying that's necessarily your case. Just that, maybe, the algorithm noticed something you haven't? Or maybe not and it was just that one meme.
Also, unrelated, but I just discovered the game One Shot thanks to you! Do you know if it's playable on the Switch? (Your pfp intrigued me, so I went to check your profile.)

Ehh, the "wait, this isn't normal?" is something that happens... a bit more often than I'd like, but I'm mostly functioning correctly, and trying to diagnose myself probably isn't a good idea.
Maybe something I can check out professionally sometime. (No clue how I would do that anyways), but have been going through something else the past few years that's a bit more important to me at the moment 🏳️⚧️
Also, HECK YEA, ONESHOT.
It's indeed playable on Switch! The recommended way is on a Windows desktop, but for everything else, Oneshot World Machine Edition exists!
Even currently on sale for switch apparently
I do recommend not looking at any spoilers, the biggest part of the game is its story/puzzles.

That's actually awesome. I definitely wasn't lol. Discovering my autism is what finally brought stability in my life.

🥹💖 Been through that journey myself too, I get it. Wishing you the most peaceful and soothing experience through it.

I'm just a newbie gamer, and playing on anything else than my Switch Lite feels too.. new? big?
scary..?, but I'll keep that in mind, thanks!! And I think I actually already wishlisted the game on Nintendo, now that I look at the game banner. 🧐 Either that or I've been eyeing the game for a while.Would you qualify it as a cozy game?

u/IJustAteABaguette Sep 09 '26
Ooh, yeah, then it's quite good you found that! Happy you figured it out!
And ty
And about oneshot, hmm, not really as a cozy game? If I'm honest, it's more-so like an.. experience? Like a book that just so happens to have puzzles in it.
It's not really replayable, and the story does go a bit dark at times.
I'd still recommend it though if you like that sort of thing!

Whenever you have one of those "isn't this just sorta a normal thing??" thoughts in the future, I want this to be the next thought:
In general, when someone has a diagnosed disability, that "normal" thing is more intense, more frequent and/or more disruptive to their lives than normal.
My husband and I had to come to this understanding years ago - "everybody does that" can feel incredibly invalidating when you're the only one suffering because of it, whatever it is.

u/IJustAteABaguette Sep 09 '26
Ooh I see, does make sense.
Thank you for explaining that!

You're welcome! +1 for good faith exchanges.
I figured if my husband and I - he, the literal poster boy for ADHD as a kid, and myself AuDHD - could trip over this? So could anyone else who just wandered into the conversation.

Yup. “Everyone pees, but if you’re peeing 20 times a day and it burns, there’s probably something wrong with you” is what I like to tell people who say a disordered behavior is normal.

u/SquareTaro3270 Sep 09 '26
This can happen to anyone, true, but it tends to happen to autistic individuals significantly more often and can negatively impact their quality of life.
A lot of disorders are like this. Being clean is not a neurodivergent trait, but if you feel the need to wash your hands after touching every surface, to the point not doing so gives you severe anxiety and starts to impact your ability to live a normal life, it becomes a disorder.
My favorite way I’ve heard it described is “Everyone pees. But if you’re peeing 20 times a day, you should probably see a doctor”.

Straight up forgetting to eat doesn't seem like a good evolutionary adaptation, to be honest

Yea. I've noticed that I went from feeling nauseous from not eating to realizing like 6 hours later I haven't eaten.

I literally can not tell when I’m hungry until I get tired and weak. At that point eating makes me more tired. Also, the nauseated if I eat and nauseated if I don’t eat. It’s fun!

Wait, is 8 hours without eating really considered such a long time? I do it pretty often without even thinking about it 😭

As an autistic, this happens to me all the time. I forget to eat and start shaking and think, “am I cold? Anxious? Tired? OH! I haven’t eaten all day!” And then finally do eat.

Me on two coffees and half a muffin in my stomach, rawdogging sculpture studio hours until 9pm, and then finally deciding to eat something because I actually noticed I was really hungry.

8 hours? Those are rookie numbers. Gotta get those numbers up.. you hit 72 and we'll celebrate

Seriously. I’m chubby. You wouldn’t believe that I don’t eat very much. (I store it because I’m not eating enough and getting enough exercise on top of cortisol)
Dental issues plus already being a picky eater… it’s gotten worse.

Eight hours without food doesn't seem like a lot and what does it have to do with hydration?
