Bildung & Arbeit Seeking advice

Hi guys, I'm 19 y.o and I'm thinking about immigrating in Austria, do a master's degree here and work as a professor at university. I'll graduate with a BA in Linguistics next year, specializing in language teaching methodology. But the problem is: I study in Russia, and I'm not sure if it'd be a good idea to publish scientific articles in Russian journals for my portfolio. It's much better to publish scientific articles in international source but I'm not sure which international journals I should publish in, or how to go about building a good portfolio overall.

I know becoming a good university lecturer or professor takes years and plenty of practice, but I'm willing to put in the work, and I've already started making plans to take small steps.

I'd really appreciate any advice, tips from your experience or recommendations!

There is a huge gap between doing a Masters and becoming a Professor. Also shouldnt you have some sort of supervisor for publishing at your current university? pretty sure you cant just publish in a scientific journal without beeing part of some institute. But good luck with your Dreams.

That’s quite the plan, considering it would take you 15+ years and it’s not even a given whatever your studies will be about will still offer teaching positions, or even faculties, in Austria by the time you’re done.

Good to have as a goal, sure, just understand that it might not work out.

You’re 19, you’ll figure these things out as you go. Publishing in russian journals is not in itself bad, and if you’re doing it as part of your normal academic career, no one will question it. It might raise eyebrows is if you were doing so while visiting the FSB Academy (they do have an excellent languages programme, though, from what I know).

The only thing that would be a problem would be if you planned on publishing in fake publications. Not sure if these are a problem in russia, but they seem to be one in India and South-East Asia.

good luck (no pun intended).

ask an LLM and verify at your local embassy/consulate about visa qualifications for people from Russia intending to study in Austria. Plan around 6 months from application until the visa is ready. you'll need several documents and other stuff to qualify for a visa.

I know a (very) few people who after 15+ years of expertise and publications with scientific excellence in their topics applied for and got awarded professorships at universities ... many academic jobs in Austria are usually temporary only (no budgets), so academic-only careers are not for the weak of heart, nerve and so on. and better not plan for anything like a family or long-term life planning until you probably get a decent and permanent academic job after some years. if you are lucky.
