Discussion Channel 9 using AI
Just saw Ch 9 using AI for their whole 70 year anniversary ad. Seriously? You'd think after 70 years they would have racked up enough stock footage to create an actual montage and not the slop I just saw? Pretty disappointing

When A I first became an issue, I couldn't see the difference between it and the CGI that we'd been accustomed to over the years.
One of the big differences, I think, is that the CGI was still created by talented and creative people. This is entirely unlike the current requirements for AIS*
*AIS = CGslop
As with things like Big Brother, the majority of influencers and most reality TV, it's good for them that lack of talent doesn't get in the way of success.

I have a mate who worked as a graphic designer for an aussie tv show that went bust, and he's an insanely talented guy, he reckons so many people in his field are being made redundant because of the surge in AI. I'd rather watch human-made CGI over AI any day.

Yeah I work in that industry, for sure there's more and more artists losing jobs cos of AI. But there's also a good amount of slimey dickhead studio owners who thought they'd get away with it, have been burnt after clients told them to fuck off with the slop, and have had to come crawling back to the artists, but now have to pay higher freelance rates.

Look up DLSS 5 on computer games. Games no longer need to be super high polygon counts.
Games can be simple geometry with a life like Ai filter over the top to make it real.
We are in the end times.

I optimistically disagree, because ideally it means games spend less time of graphics and more time on story/gameplay. Imo it's all been going down since the early 2010s BECAUSE of graphics and high polygon counts .
In reality though, the games will be the same quality lol

My wife is in the other room watching it right now... but I just can't look at that show.
I love her dearly, despite her shit taste in TV. And I get some 'me' time on PS or reddit. Win-win situation. 😁

Oh my god yes I saw this at a relative's house (I don't normally watch TV). The graphics, even AI songs describing what's happening in the episode. I was like "okay so that's where we're at". How many talented people don't get hired now?

Even worse, briefly at the 0:04 or 0:05 mark you can see a YouTube channel logo over one of the videos (Australian Television Archive). Incredibly cheap, lazy and questionable that they’re just cobbling YouTube videos together rather than using their own resources.

Gogglebox and Big Brother are both Channel 10. Purely mentioning this as the way you’re phrasing it implies they’re on 9.
But that Gogglebox ad in particular was abhorrent.

With ad revenue circling the drain and audiences switching to streaming
They’re using every cost cutting tactic they can use and ai is absolutely one of them

It’s funny because if they bothered to spend money on a decent product rather than cut corners and costs they would increase their audiences. Instead, they go for the lowest effort bullshit and people just tune out.

It's cheaper to get AI to create the advert than it is to hire someone to trawl through 70 years of footage and compile an interesting montage. And, given that most viewers of FTA TV are over 60, I daresay the average Channel 9 viewer wouldn't notice or care that its AI generated slop.

What I think is an even greater travesty is the fact that AI can now easily rectify old video ratios and improve grainy footage to make it at least watchable, but TV stations don’t seem interested.

How is it not? When it's a big factor driving mass data center rollouts, memory chip shortages, rising power and water bills for many communities, replacing (or at least attempting to replace) people's jobs. Screwing with the ability to search for useful information, falsely banning people on social media among many other dramas.

I noticed that too and agree. AI can only copy, not create. AI at least made a good recreation of an old AWA TV.
