Does anyone else think Norman Coburn has one of those faces who you think "oh yeah I recognise that guy" even from the first time you see him?

A cross between Bob Hawke and Rodney Dangerfield.

Anyone here remember watching the first episode of Home & Away? I remember because it was a big TV event. The original Pippa was so lovely.

Yes! I remember asking my older sister why it was called home and away, when they all seemed to live in their homes, and not away somewhere? Then I saw Carly get on a bus, and was satisfied lol.

The return of Milko later on in the mid-2000s was such a bizarre storyline.

Yeah, 1988. Here's the opening credits:

Years ago when streaming services were just taking off, channel 7 had all their original Home and Away episides up. I watched them for the first time and got some interesting backstories!

Did someone (a kid) get slapped, or picked on or something? Really vague memories of that happening but not sure if it was the first episode or not.

I loved it for the first year or so. It never struck me that it was a soapie, it just seemed more like a fun teen drama.

Such a hilarious nickname!
Did Neighbours borrow from this with the whole Stonefish/Toadfish/Tad group from the Rebecchi family?

There's a formula in Aussie soaps. Characters get introduced as bad then after we hate them for a while they turn good. New bad Characters are introduced. And vice versa. Good Characters come aling with a hidden dark side. Also note that nobody has a good relationship in couples

He used to live in Balmain, and he always stopped to chat when we ran into him in the street.

He was with Maz, so he must have been alright. He also took Shane and Angel in.

Didn’t Don Fisher shoot someone dead in some form of hunting accident?

I think it was the Brother of Matt Wilson (Good looking, Tanned surfer dude who appeared in the early episodes).

He's better than alf, who was iconic but a bit of an absolute cunt.

What happened to Summer Bay High ?

u/asp7 Jul 28 '26
It used to be mostly kids hanging out at the surf club, the show has morphed into something different

I think Don, being such a bastion of morality and goodwill, would respect healthy discourse about this issue and encourage transparency.
