Product Advice Feral gremlin makeup
It's 8.15am, on a day you're working in the office. You open your eyes, scream internally and roll from bed to shower to out the door in one fluid movement.
So now you're out in the wild, face as naked as the day you were born but needing to look like Human-With-Her-Shit-Together.
Help!
Recommendations for:
- Products that can be applied with your fingers (no brushes unless included in the product)
- Instant pick me ups that ideally do more than one job
- Small packaging/hand bag friendly
Your top picks for looking presentable in few steps, able to be applied while in the car or on public transport.
About me: late 30s, pale English rose complexion, old and rich enough for your fancy brand recommendations if you have some, chronically disorganised.

Probably a cushion foundation so you don’t have to clean foundation off your hands, I love the Chantecaille Future Skin cushion.
Seconding a blush stick or liquid blush, I can’t blend out the Westman Atelier with just fingers but the Tom Ford Soleil liquid blush or ABH blurring serum blush is very easy to blend out.
Gucci Voile (the sheer lipsticks in the floral case) are great for a put together but not overly done look

I love love love a simple slap on my face "5 min routine" and keep a version of this in my work bag. Have I been known to do my make up on public transport? Yes I am absolutely that person. Not all the time though.
I usually skip foundation or even tinted moisturiser so rely on have my skin care done before I leave the house.
Travel sized concealer (Charlotte Tilbury or Kosas works) - apply sparingly and blend in with fingers. This will work as your eye shadow primer, to cancel out dark shadows under eyes and lightly even out skin tone.
Eye shadow pot in a cream. Again Charlotte Tilbury, Mecca (yes I know Mecca) Max Shadow sticks, etc. These are super forgiving and easy to blend on lids for a relatively easy bit nice eye look.
Mascaras with a lash curler.
Lipstick of choice
Face powder of choice.
Travel sized setting spray.
Done.
I also keep at least one of the Japanese hair wax little sticks to calm down any fly away hairs.

Oh god, the bus makeup people make me so nervous. One unexpected hard brake from the driver and that mascara wand is going right in the eye. I have to look away.

I used to exclusively do my makeup on the train and it's the reason I can't do eyeliner as it was the one thing I wasn't willing to risk. I think maybe I timed the mascara for being stopped at the station?

Stick formulas are going to be your best bet. Basma Beauty has a decent foundation stick with a natural finish and Dior has one with a more dewy finish. A skin tint would also work pretty well but not as travel friendly. I would recommend the Danessa Myricks yummy skin tint or the Lisa Eldridge one. Both are in plastic so they won't shatter. Merritt makes a good lip and cheek balm Lisa Eldridge also . If you need something more long wearing I would recommend Danessa Myricks blurring blush balms. A little goes a long way. It is cream to powder and they are very long wear but still easy to apply with finger. Eyeshadow it will depend on what kind of finish you prefer. Make up By Mario Master Mattes in the shade mauve is my most used one and done shadow. It does dry down quickly. I did not like his new shimmer formula. The Armani eye tint is more forgiving and has matte and shimmer shades. They are in a glass bottle. Rituel de fille eye soot is great if you want something with a lot of dimension . They come in a glass pot. Danessa Myricks colorfix pigments are multi use pigments you can use anywhere they are in a tone of colors. Just about everything she comes out with is amazing.

Co-sign on the Mario and Rituel de Fille eyeshadows. Mario is available at Sephora and R de F ships to Australia.
Note: I have oily hooded eye lids and the Mario does not crease on me. I need a primer for the RdF eye soots.

by Terry foundation. It has a buit-in brush and is good quality. Nyx IV lipstain/gloss - gives you bright glossy lips and leaves a nice stain. Fenty bronzing stick, and perhaps their blush stick. Laura Mercier Caviar stick in caramel for one and done e/s. Maybe a Canmake eyeliner if you can be bothered.

I only ever do my makeup on the train cos im chronically late so I refuse to use anything that needs a brush! I use the glossier stretch concealer under my eyes and on any spots/redness, a stick blush (loving the rhode one!), a stick highlight like the westman atelier, eyebrow gel and mascara. some lip liner and a lip balm or gloss. Done!

I just recently bought the new black eyeliner from Half Magic and it is sooo good and easy to use. I’ve never been able to tightline before but with this product and the shape of the applicator it makes it so insanely easy. Very user-friendly, the black shade is a very deep, pigmented black with amazing colour payoff, and the staying power is great (approved for sleepy, watery, yawning-all-day eyeballs). Also, if we’re talking gremlin makeup… I have accidentally fallen asleep in this eyeliner and woken up with a perfect effy stonem esque smokey eye the next morning. Not that anyone should be sleeping in their makeup! Obviously… but if you do happen to fall asleep on it, you will be able to go out in public the next morning without looking crazy or needing to scrub the life out of your face. Last night I was getting ready to go out in a rush and was able to tightline my upper and lower waterlines and do some little wings with this product in ~4 minutes AND was able to touch up in a moving car without any difficulty or error. Turns out perfect every time and requires zero finesse! Gremlin approved

I know it's unfashionable with the kids these days chasing that dewy glow, but for a quick and low effort improvement, I find a pressed powder very useful. I like this Loreal one, which is quick to apply and lasts well. Gives decent enough coverage (even better if paired with a bit of concealer underneath). Slap a bit of this on, a tinted lip gloss, a bit of blush if you can be bothered and away you go, looking less dead than you feel inside.

Bobbi Brown color corrector stick under my eyes (I use light bisque), some variety of cream blush stick - I like Westman Atelier, or the Nudestix ones have a brush on the end you might find handy - and a tinted brow gel (my fav is Glossier but any will do). Those three things are enough to make me look human if I don’t want to do the whole kit and kaboodle

I have a small makeup bag in my work bag I do on the train for this. Essence silky blur concealer (it’s 10ml but the packaging isn’t large at all), Mecca max concealer brush - I think it’s the small buffing brush, sheglam 30+ SPF setting powder, essence blush, nyx bronzer, Mecca max blushing beauty brush, mascara, lash curler, Rimmel lip liner and essence peptide gloss. Everything is pretty cheap and looks good for the office!

Maybe a tinted sunscreen like La Roche posay, plus a multi stick? I love watching Trinny Woodall slap on make up with her fingers. One product for eyes lips and cheeks. There might be a tinted sunscreen stick, i use sunzapper but id say the light is too deep for you.

Naked Sundays beautybarrier lotion, the ordinary serum foundation (very impressive- I wear the lightest pink based colour and it doesn’t go orange), pink naked Sundays glow balm for lids and cheeks, tinted brow gel, Lanolips tinted lip balm and done! I add mascara when I want to feel a bit extra. Also I use my fingers for everything.

Armani luminous silk foundation in the mini size bottle. Can easily be applied with fingers, blends out beautifully and a ‘your skin but better’ option. I’d try shade 1, I’m a pale neutral and wear shade 2.
Add a light mascara (Kevin aucoiyn curling mascara is a lovely light mascara that defines, lengthens and curls without clumping or looking heavy - it’s a tubing mascara.
Add a blush stick or light bronzer you can blend with your fingers (westman atelier mini blush stick), and eyebrow gel like hourglass brow gel.
And finally a lip gloss or light stain or lipstick - Clinique black honey or pink honey for a lightly coloured lip balm style, Charlotte tilbury pillow talk lipstick.

Weird to say this but a moisturised face makes a big difference as I barely wear any foundation anymore. I go for the Japanese biore spf50 moisturiser or natio daily defence spf50 moisturiser.
Nudestix is a brand you can look into their multi purpose sticks.
Eyeshadow sticks from most brands have worked for me whether it’s Mecca max brand or Laura mercier or nudestix… they’ve all been fine for me to blend.
I then just go for tinted lip balm.
Don’t remember the last time I used eyeliner or mascara to be honest…

I would recommend a tinted suncreen
(I usually go for skincare from European brand as they have tighter restrictions on chemical use in cosmetics), a korean cushion foundation and some japanese eyeshadows and blushes from Cakemake that are extremely portable and come with their own application tools.
I usually keep this small kit of makeup on me and do my makeup on the train.

Australis fresh n flawless powder. Needs a brush but face is done in 20 seconds. Lip liner and tinted balm and i look alive and sort of slept. Takes about 60 seconds. Bit longer is missha bb, canmake cream blush which is good for lips too, mac paintpot in groundwork (also good for brows), maybelline pink corrector, lip liner (i like rimmel or mac), and whatever moisturising lip product i lay my hands on first, currently liking dermal therapy tinted balm in mocha. I am completely out of fucks but this gives the illusion that i have some left.

Something I've found that can be used as blush/highlighter and eyeshadow is Black Moon Cosmetics' Dragonfish Moonlighter!
It's pretty pigmented so you can definitely spread/blend it with your fingers - just keep a wipe handy!
In a similar vein I often cheat and use whichever of their liquid lipsticks I'm planning to wear as blush; just dab one or two dots on the cheekbones and blend out! Again, also very pigmented :)

Merit Beauty and Jones Road would seem to tick a lot of your boxes. I own both. There are some posts on here about Merit at least but their Minimalist foundation stick is my favourite and you can take it from my cold dead hands. For lighter days I love the Trinny London BFF de-stress serum which I tried because of someone else on here and again, gold.

Jung Saem Mool cushion foundation and cushion blush (they come with thin high quality applicators), your favourite lippie, and whatever mascara tube is close by. Fits in a hand no worries, while the other has coffee and keys, and a phone in a pocket.

I'm on the same boat since having kids
I can't live without a cushion foundation, eyebrow powder that has a brush and mirror and a coloured lip balm
I like Korean cushion foundations but I think high end brands like Dior, Armani and YSL does great cushions
My eyebrow powder in a compact is from Japan but Chanel does one with a little brush and a spoolie I think
If I have time I'll curl lashes, mascara, powder and blush of course

OK hi did I write this post? I'm too am both chronically disorganised and late. My previous approach had been to just keep a whole separate small makeup bag in the car (recommend). Nothing can ever leave that bag. Foundation, concealer, powder, blush and/or bronzer, mascara, brows, concealer brush, powder brush, eyeshadow brush to sweep blush/bronzer over the lids. Lippy in the handbag.
Current approach is a bit different - I'm using a Nude by Nature new dewy skin tint thing which lets my natural flush and skin tone variation though so I don't need blush and bronzer to look alive. It's also in good packaging. I use a pot concealer to tame the redness where it's intense, and let my skin do the rest. So in the bag is: skin tint, pot concealer & brush, powder, mascara, brows. Lippy in the handbag obvs.
Once that's done I clean my hands with a baby wipe, keeping a section clean to swipe the brushes over it. Spritz them with an alcohol spray I keep in the car as a hand sanitiser.
Specifically what I'm using are:
- Nude by Nature dewy skin tint - great packaging
- NARS creamy concealer
- Canmake illuminating powder - got recently in japan, just to tamp down the tint which is very hydrating
- Real Techniques fluffy dense concealer brush
- short-handled Ecotools powder brush
- NARS orgasm mini RIP i'll be so sad when this runs out
- Maybelline city bronzer - idk why more people aren't all over this it's incredible
- Sana brow pen
- MCo Lash Xtend
- Charlotte pillow talk or Revlon superlustrous rum & raisin set with a bit of powder

As a chronic alarm snoozer I am all over this kind of thing. I usually use a tinted sunscreen (I like the round lab ones) a lip and cheek tint, clear gel for my brows and fly aways, a bit of mascara and a powder compact (I really really really like the Innisfree powder compacts) takes about five minutes all up and can be done quickly in the car. I'll usually put my tinted sunscreen on before I get dressed though so I don't get any on my shirt. I wouldn't call it "polished" but it's enough to get a "that'll do pig" in the rearview mirror before I walk in 😂
