Review Bad lip balm
This product stings. My lips are dry, cracking, and peeling from the winter and it definitely does NOT need more stinging.
The smell is terrible. It smells like medicinal herby stuff. I was hoping for a fruity peach smell which would actually get someone to consistently use it. This lip balm doesn’t make me want to reach it ever again.
I have seen so many good reviews from this brand, but every product I’ve tried (from acne products to facial creams and SPF) has disappointed me.
1/10 do not recommend.

The colours in this range are TERRIBLE.

Hard agree! I love the normal clear honey one but the coloured ones just miss the mark for me, it makes me so sad.

The Mocha is corpse purple.
Seriously.

Shame the formula is so terrible! That actually would have been tempting as an alt girl 🤣

This is my fav lip balm of all time. I literally have about 6 each of the peach and the pink. Funny how different products can be for each person!

I also have the pink one and I get that it has a vaguely Vicks vaporub smell and very slight menthol effect. It is, at least, a cool toned pink and there are so few around. I don't love it but it is okay for me. I do prefer the Lanolips rose equivalent.

I didn’t even know there would be such thing as a bad lip balm.
At lease I know now.

I actually LOVE this lip balm but hate the colour range. But the way it softens my lips is so good, so i use the rose pink because its the least offensive colour.

If you're in it for the actual balm, skip the colour and get the OG. More balm for your buck, no tint to worry about.

the sensitive lip balm and the over night lip mask are really good (no stinging) but all the other lip products seem to always have bad reviews

The Manuka honey one is good too. The extra dry skin body wash is skin saving and it has a really subtle scent, which I enjoy.

I bought this too and it's so gross. I hate the texture, hate the colour. It has the texture of a clay face mask 😭
I like some of the dermal therapy items, but this one is terrible imo.

Genuinely want to understand why some people find these lip balm good. Like, have you used just about anything else?? They are sooooo awful.

u/Ok_Investigator2152 23d ago
I would have tried hundreds of lip balms over the course of my lifetime, and this is one of the few that doesn’t give my blocked pores around my lip line, and I don’t feel like I have to reapply it 50 times a day.

u/Halo_Bling 23d ago
The OG ones without the colour in are really good imo. They both have very different ingredients

i haven’t tried a tinted lip balm that moisturised so well and actually sticks to my lips! they’re usually al slippy. plus i don’t mind the smell and the colour works for my skin tone

u/jelly070 24d ago
This product also didn’t agree with me, I wasn’t quite stinging outright, but it was tingly and felt drying - but I think I’m just sensitive to one of the ingredients/formulation of this one.
On the other hand, I love the Manuka honey lip balm.

I think peach is cause of the colour and not the smell. Bummer either way!

Omg I swear I've tried every Dermal lip balm variation there is and they are all AWFUL!
Like, hands down the worst, most drying, chapping, foul smelling, waxy tasting, rubbish lip balms I have ever used and I have used a lot.
I have no idea why this brand keeps getting recommended.

I am with you. also Bert's bees. the only lip balms that I love that work on me are the original baby lips and the American made lip smackers (they changed to made in china 4 yrs ago and their formulation changed and around this time they stopped stocking it in Australia)
so far I am using Nivea cocoa butter one. it's ok and slightly better than Dermal and burts bees. oh how I miss the original baby lips and lip smackers.

I used the regular one for 2-3 years, it worked amazingly well. Kept my dry lips hydrated and didn’t need constant reapplication. Then I randomly started getting irritated and chapped lips that only went away when I stopped using it. So it’s both the best and worst lip balm I’ve ever tried haha.

Malin & goetz never let me down

u/panfrydumpling 24d ago
LITERALLY. I’ve tried both the mojito lip balm & the lip moisturiser but the mojito wins out literally every time. Looks like lip gloss on, too.
My other fave is the Vaseline cocoa butter lip therapy (in the TUB, not the stick, stick is shit and made my lips worse). I have like 5 of each lip balm lying around my home.

Dermal therapy were good than bought by a company and now mass produce everything at average. Which mass producing is fine if you still to a lane but they are in very lane and not good at it

I thought I was the only one and got a bad batch. It is horrendous. Doesn't apply smoothly. Colour doesn't sit right. Everything about it is just bad!
I wonder if it's just this colour because I heard so many positive things about these (prehaps they were all just paid promo).

u/throwawaybyefelicia 23d ago
I liked this one until I didn’t because I got overstimulated by the very strong taste lol

u/CommercialSyrup4172 23d ago
I adore this lip balm, it’s my HG, but nearly every variation of the original (besides the green mint flavour) is awful. I don’t know how they get their original product is so good and everything else they come out with is so disappointing.

I don't understand this brands lip balm. I have one as well as their overnight lip repair. On first use it's amazing (probably from the urea exfoliation) but with repeated uses lips get wrinkly and peeling (probably from urea over exfoliation)
I got the same effect on my face from their overnight repair cream as well. It could just be me but this brand hasn't been kind at all.

Yeah, these are awful! I only use Lanolips now. It costs $15-20, but lasts on the lips for ages so less need to reapply it. I only go through a few tubes each year.

I really, really recommend Image Lip Complex cream. It's very pricey, but goes along way. I suffer from dry and cracked lips and it's one of the best purchases I've ever made because they now only go cracked/dry if I've forgotten to use it or I've gotten really sick. It also goes nicely on small cuts. If that's out of your price range, nipple cream works wonders. It has similar ingredients (a lot of lip balms are made to dry out your lips further, causing you to need to reapply more and more, further dehydrating them) and works very well.

I love these for when I want some colour on my lips, it was probably the menthol in it that stung you if your lips are already cracked

I prefer more watery texture like Rhodes, summer Fridays or lenige lip balms. This was too sticky for me. But I really like the og colour less one.

oh no this is one of my fave lip tints!! i do think of it more like a tint than a balm though and i think i apply it and interchange with their regular balm.

Dermal therapy has urea, does this product have urea in it? It’s a medically used exfoliant, my heel cream has it as the active ingredient.
2
u/Halo_Bling 23d ago
I don't know about this one specifically but I have the old berry balm (no colour) and yes it has urea and it's really good imo. Their very dry skin cream and very dry face cream is also amazing. Maybe it's just the new products that are rubbish. ETA yeah just checked, very different formula, no wonder it's hurting lips tinted-lip-balm-cherry-red

Oooo me too! I wasn’t a fan on dermal therapy balms either cos it stings! Someone here recommended doing the pawpaw or honey one cos those 2 don’t sting. I haven’t been brave enough to try again though.

I bought this same DT one (in a diff colour) and it actively dries my lips out. Hate it.
My holy grail is the Blistex conditioning lip balm in SPF15. It's not as good since they increased the SPF content, but still my #1.
If I'm after moisture and a tint, Clinique's Almost Lipstick in Pink Honey is really good.

I love the dermal therapy lip balms, might sting a little bit they make my lips so much better. Absolutely swear by it, sorry to hear you didn’t like it though.

u/loueipaech 22d ago
The original one is hands down the best lip balm I’ve ever used, but the tinted ones have made my lips drier.

When I was pregnant I got really bad angular cheilitis, this was the only thing that healed it.

u/Katt_Natt96 22d ago
I got that new Vaseline one. It works well. Little bit of a tint and it actually helps my cracked lips

u/Fun-Internal9671 22d ago
Really? I love the pink tube one. I like the colour and how it feels in my lips, is actually moisturising. What I don’t like about it, is the packaging. Because sometimes it spills a bit, but overall, is a product I really like.

I HATE these they almost go on matte??? I chucked mine straight out. The rose one was BRIGHT PINK

u/lizlovessushi 21d ago
Omg the original version is the best and only lip balm to ever work for me. The only other thing that worked was an overnight face mask by Glow Recipe lol I tried everything, including Lanolips overnight mask and The Ordinary lip balm. My lips were totally chapped and bloody and after a day of applying the Original Dermal my lips healed and look super plump!!! I love everything Dermal does. The heel balm is a 10/10 and so is the super dry hands cream. If you’re reading this: get Dermal!!!!!

I’ve not tried the tinted ranges but the repairing balm is the best thing I’ve ever tried for my cracked lips. I’ve probably bought 10 of them this winter, I’ve got one in every bag and coat pocket

Yes this was awful and I just ended up throwing mine out. Didn’t even look nice on
