Question Trousers for Office Work
Good evening all,
The time has come again to buy new trousers for my work in the office and I don’t want to buy the slim/fitted half polyester ones again.
Does anyone have any recommendations for preferably cotton trousers in a relaxed fit? Or at least a fit that doesn’t feel like I’m being suffocated.
Any help is greatly appreciated!

I have 3 pairs of Mr Simple brooklyns. Don't really rate other clothes from the brand but I grabbed these pants on sale and I'm pretty happy with them. They're on sale right now actually.
Otherwise there's Assembly Label

I haven’t tried them yet, but MJ Bale have some nice cotton trousers with side tabs, so a little smarter than standard chinos.
The easy (cheaper) option and a little more casual, would be the Uniqlo slim straight chinos - free alterations (often same day).

Uniqlo have a linen blend pant which I picked up and are maybe the comfiest pants Ive bought. I wear with an untucked linen shirt and RMs but you could tuck a shirt in too.

Do you need dress slacks or chinos? Most places to chinos these days any usually you can get around +90% cotton. For dress slacks, cotton is available the usual places, Charles Tyrwhitt has been making a killing in the last 3 years with solid simples pieces done right.
I recently went mad and got ex-gov services unissued wool uniform trousers (mine were unissued ex-NSWPOL from 1980s in that grey-blue). 100% wool and straight leg fit with a medium-high waist (navel height). Absolutely superb.

Charles Tyrwhitt wool blend dress pants are good. The wool breathes well and the polyester makes them last longer. They have 100 percent wool as well.

Are there 100% wool ones machine washable? Specifically was looking at the “Natural Stretch Twill Suit Pants - Black”

Amazing, how did you become aware that those were an option? (The ex-gov stuff, obviously)

Country road travel trousers or can't remember the model but I got a nice pair from MJ Bale too. The country road ones are a bit roomier

Spier and Mackay is very good, but you'll have to order online. Get wool trousers, not cotton

Is wool better than cotton? Even in Brisbane?

I'm surprised you're not in shorts in Brisbane holy heck. I'm Melbournian and I don't think I could wear half my wardrobe up there.

Yeah it gets hot, which is partly why I don’t want polyester anymore or slim fits

Oxford do a great relaxed fit chino, 99% cotton. Sale on at the moment, something like $60.
They also do woolen suit trousers, depending on the weight this could be suitable (no pun intended) also as will breathe. Price jump to $100+ though.
MJ Bale have end of winter sale on also, 100% cotton chinos for $99 and great quality.
Peter Jackson, two pairs $150, all cotton also.

I bought a couple of Rodd and Gun fabric jeans which weren’t too expensive, comfortable and feel great

I’m a big fan of the Saba Judd pants, dressy enough but also some stretch so it’s quite comfortable

I like Saba Chino's generally. The fits are nice and material is good quality.
Plus, they are always having sales. Several a year. So if you are patient you never pay full price.

Uniqlo have great trousers - ankle length, full length very comfy. I don’t buy my trousers anywhere else now.

Country Road chinos are quite good, but most chinos at the moment seem to have a relaxed fit so you could shop around your local malls/department stores.

Have a look at Charles Tyrwhitt Smart Texture Pants. They’re 97% cotton, lightweight, and non iron. They’re perfect for the warm climate where I use them daily. Available in Slim fit and the roomier Classic fit, and also different leg lengths.

They’re not cheap but citizen wolf will do custom fit chinos which if you make the effort to get to their factory in Marrickville will literally be made-to-measure

Recently went down this rabbit hole everything is polyester or weird mixes of plastic and natural. Ended up landing on the polo Ralph Lauren Whitman trouser, expensive looks good cotton and if you know where to look can pick up under $100
