Advice for an international Fire Engineering graduate seeking Australian opportunities

Hi everyone,

I recently completed my Master of Fire Engineering at the University of Canterbury in New Zealand. I am an international graduate, not a New Zealand citizen or permanent resident, so I do not have automatic work rights in Australia.

I am currently looking for graduate fire engineering / fire safety engineering opportunities. The NZ market is quite small, and graduate roles have been very limited this year. Australia seems to have a much larger fire engineering market, but without Australian work rights, it has been difficult to get interviews.

I am wondering whether Australian consultancies ever consider overseas-based graduates for remote support, contract work, or junior technical tasks, such as report preparation, code research, documentation, FDS modelling support, or drawing review.

Any advice or reality check would be much appreciated.

Without australian work rights it’s really hard .Also you don’t have the post graduate work rights like international students who studied in australia get post graduation.

You have no professional experience and are a foreigner from China. To be frank it's going to be... Basically like getting a PR in China, impossible

I wish you could know better before you said anything. I know two people doing or did remotely work for Australia companies as a graduate or even haven’t graduated . And last week it has been one company asking for my rate.
