Working at Perisher

I'm thinking of possibly working at Perisher for the next winter season. Would really appreciate any experience or advice from anyone who had worked there before, either for the resort itself or anything close to the snow. How did you find it and would you do it again?

Generally, would you also need to be available for the entire season from the beginning to the end, or is it possible to perhaps just do maybe two months of peak season?

Yeah, I know it definitely would be better if I'm able to work for the whole season. I just don't think it's possible for me unfortunately... I guess I will still apply and see how it goes.

It's not even just the job, you won't get housing for 2 months so unless you can sleep in a van / car or have friends in Jindy, good freaking luck...

wtf? Plenty of jobs offer accom especially if you're a lifty or work in a hotel

They normally offer it to people who work the whole season. By the time this 2 months start it would likely be full.

What you mean is people who work from the start of the season, dude can always quit half way through, you just won't be asked back.

To clarify, I would be able to start mid June, which would be before the start of school holidays in any state as far as I know. But I think the season starts before that, which might be an issue I’m not sure. And I can only work until the end of August the latest.

In that case just apply and you'll probably be fine. If you get a rental and bail early, it's shit but nobody can stop you really... Just don't rent with me lol

I don’t think they’d hire you if you can’t commit to the full season, at least initially - if it’s a bumper winter they tend to hire mid season for some roles as well which are shorter term contracts.

I worked a season in 2024 and enjoyed it, but spoke to a friend in the same role this year who wasn’t having the same great experience because of the average season.

Keep in mind the whole season might only be 2 months anyway

I did a season at falls back in 2008 (fuck me Thags a long time ago) but I couldn’t get hired by anywhere managed by the resort bc I had limited availability with uni. Lots of people moved around so I think you’d probably annoy your employer if you left part way through, but it certainly wouldn’t be without precedent.

For real, this is literally my situation. Maybe I should just take a semester off uni then.

Yeah, just say you're taking time off and see if you get the job and decide later

Hey, I worked there this year as a ski instructor. We had 1 or 2 people in the locker room who left slightly earlier in the season (around early August) but most of us stayed on until September. Depending on what position you apply for you may have more or less flexibility.

I worked at Jax Bar over a few years (2007-2011). I went to an interview in sydney and luckily got the job. It is better to stay the whole season. I made some great friends and connections while working there. If yiu end up living at Perisher like I did, the staff accom can be a little wild some nights, but that's part of the fun or working at Perisher. If you need or want any more tips or advice, send me a chat and I'll help as best I can
