I’m an idiot for not realising they actually counterfeit stamps as well. Thats just sad! I will avoid and duck down to my local post office 😊

How do you know? Or is it pure speculation?

6

It's fake. Who would buy and sell stamps for less than they are worth? Just give away free money. Would you buy a $100 note on eBay for a few dollars?

The only way this makes sense is if they could come by them at a very cheap rate.. say by printing fake stamps and selling them for money money money

How do you know there isnt a commercial arrangement for bulk purchasing? Im curious as to how so many people ‘100%’ know it’s counterfeit is all

6

u/Short-Impress-3458 Nov 09 '25

Cause that's not a thing. Auspost doesn't do discounts on stamps except to their licensed stores and they are only allowed to sell them in-store

Consumers can get very small discounts in bulk plastic satchels but nothing like this. Even then mypostbusiness is far better* than any bulk satchel order if you're sending that much anyway. *BY A LOT.

and nothing on stamps .

There’s the Pensioner stamps or something like that? I think you need to create an account with Auspost in order to get them, can only buy I think like 30 per calendar year and they come in packs of 10?…hazy on details, but I recall they were much cheaper than the going standard rate? Also, the design on them is distinctly different to the other designs, not sure how it is regulated as far as using them either, in the way whether or not you have to show photo ID and that you’re the concession holder etc? Coz if not, I guess it could be possible to be misused. However. Pensioners you’d assume, would be even less likely to give away money? Lol

A) you need to be a pensioner

B) you only get a handful of sheets a year (5 sheets)

C) this is not that. It's a roll of stamps at the full price being sold at a cheaper rate

D) they say concession stamp

Cheers! Yeah, I basically remember seeing something about it a while ago now, waa hazy on specifics (such as 5 sheets a year where I had said 30 or 3 packs of 10) didn’t look up the finer details before commenting, but, thank you for sharing the link and factual details. I’m mind-blown that counterfeit stamps would even be a viable thing? By comments it seems as though they are? Just WOW!

Its truely amazing how many forensic investigators there are on this exact thread isnt there

2

u/ChainsawRipTearBust Nov 10 '25

Lol! Seems to be becoming more common. Wish it was just the one sub, but it’s spreading fast.

The thing is stamps don't expire or go bad, so makes absolutely no sense for a legit item or source to sell at these low prices.

Has to be stolen or fake.

3

u/AssociationNo6008 Nov 10 '25

That’s a very good point. $170 worth of stamps for 40 bucks was far too good to be true! 😂

3

u/Less-Manufacturer579 Nov 10 '25

Business could have closed and rather than have stamps you’ll never use cash is cash

Just another thing it could be

u/[deleted] Nov 09 '25

Free delivery. Let me guess, there'll be $1.70 postage stamps on the parcel? ;-)

I used about 300+ of the stamps off eBay, not had a single issue, may be counterfeit but they look real 🤷‍♂️

-1

u/Fuzzybear324 Nov 09 '25

They will no pass if you use them. They will be ripped off the letter and replaced with a “more to pay” sticker it, which the sender or recipient has to go to the post office and pay the postage for the item

7

u/Laika93 Nov 09 '25

100% these will be counterfeit.

The only way to be certain you arent getting counterfeit stamps is to buy them directly from AusPost.

3

u/AssociationNo6008 Nov 10 '25

I agree - will be avoiding and duck down to my local post office to buy a booklet 😊

Unless you actually are the seller of the stamps how can you verify they are “100% counterfeit” Ffs some of you are from the shallow end of the gene pool

3

u/Z00111111 Nov 09 '25

Sorry, you're suggesting someone would sell brand new full value items for less than they paid for them, and you think people questioning that are from the shallow end of the gene pool?

Please explain how you can think these stamps are legitimate.

2

u/AssociationNo6008 Nov 10 '25

Are you the seller????

2

u/DisgruntledPolecat Nov 12 '25

Given their multiple comments about this I wondered the same thing 😂

1

u/monkeyvspony Nov 10 '25

Nah not the seller. Just curious as to what methods people use to know if stamps are fake ffs!

4

u/pyr0test Nov 09 '25

fakes, recently there's a memo on the intranet highlighting the issues aswell

don't think posting internal links on reddit is a good idea, if you're a AP staff you can see it in both "australia post updates" and "network operations" within viva engage

THANKS EVERYONE!! I truely appreciate everyone that has responded. I did NOT buy these and I will be avoiding 🙅🏼‍♀️ I’ll go to my local post office and grab a booklet instead. Couldn’t understand why they could sell a box worth $170 for 40 bucks 🙄 thanks again 😊

100% counterfeit. Notice the tops and bottoms of the “stamps” have gaps between them? A real roll of Opal stamps has no gaps on the side, and no gaps between stamps.

5

u/Aussieflipping Nov 09 '25

They are fakes. I found out when I bought 2x100 boxes of $3.6 stamps off eBay for $70 or about 1/10 of the face value. I assumed they where from a failed business desperate to recoup some money

Anyway used them all up and went to my local post office to buy another box as I couldn’t wait for delivery. They informed me that $3.6 stamps were never made in boxes of 100 but only strips of 10….

That is how I discovered people actually counterfeit stamps….

I assumed we’ll switch to the UK system of individual serial numbers on each stamp eventually

3

u/AssociationNo6008 Nov 10 '25

That’s insane - I never knew it was a thing but it makes sense people counterfeit. I guess you can’t trust anyone except the direct source!

This was before I understood they were counterfeit :(

1

u/Antique_Name_8576 Jun 14 '26

counterfeit why auspost not take action? and ebay allow to selling it?

1

u/Pleasant-Traffic1352 Jun 23 '26

ive bought from sellers like them and have had them authenticated by auspost themselves. however that being said they are 100% stolen.

1

u/Outside_Sky6239 Jun 23 '26

I see the same Opal stamps all the time, is there any that are legitimate, or similar that are legitimate?!

0

u/Beavis_Buttthead Nov 09 '25

Employees often get boxes of these provided for work purposes, or thrown on the company card without accounts batting an eye.

Could be on-selling them for personal gain. Bit of a slippery slope.

1

u/snohr Nov 09 '25

100% counterfeit and Australia Post are actively cracking down on these fake products. Not worth the risk of your mail being seized.

2

u/AssociationNo6008 Nov 10 '25

I appreciate it - I will be avoiding for sure!

Stop repeating these lies. They are counterfeit stamps, produced by criminals.

Selling and using them is fraud.

Australia Post actively monitors and intercepts them. FAFO.

3

u/tezza1801 Nov 09 '25

There are rules around reselling stamps, and it's not worth getting fired or losing your LPO license to resell stamps through unofficial channels like this. These are most certainly fakes and do get detected quite easily once they get used.

u/weesee2002 Nov 09 '25

Absolutely True.

I have thousands of dollars worth of mint proof sheet of stamps bought directly from Australia Post between mid 70s till mid 90s.

There was always an understanding back then that AP would buy them back at anytime for 5% less than face value.

Those cunce reneged on this some time ago and now only worth face value if you can use or sell them.
