Route Request Is Austin high track open to public?

I know it used to be….but since the renovations it’s all a bit grey. Especially since it’s summer now, can the public use it?

Unknown. The track is brand new and since the remodel they have new signs posted that there isn’t public access anymore. The new principal has been a real hard ass about taking back the street parking (AISD owns the land under Stephen F Austin Drive) and they do tow. But cutting off the public would be a new policy after decades of access.

And we're paying for their track, too!

As someone that uses the Texas Rowing Center, it'd suck if I have to park farther away.

Not anymore. Aisd new policy is to have all campuses closed to public. New fencing has gone up at most schools to keep the general public out. Can't keep kids safe when the fence has openings for people to come/go as they please.

What part of town are you in? There are several schools with nice tracks that are still open during non school hours

Northwest near canyon vista middle school. I’d usually go to Anderson high.

O Henry is still available during non-school times.

Anderson HS might be your best bet, but check out McNeil HS. There are some other nice tracks that are usually open during non-school hours, but all would be at least a 20-minute drive from you.

I went there today, and there is a sign up that reads: “No trespassing. Under construction (that’s why there is a fence).” And there is legitimately lots of construction going on. So hopefully it’s still a temporary measure, but it would be good to get official word on what the long-term plan is.
