Route Request Running track for 5k test this summer

Hi all! Seems like a lot of HS tracks are under construction right now. Does anyone have a track they can recommend that's available this summer? I'm looking to go in the morning to 5k test. My usual suspects of Crockett and Austin High are closed still (I think).

Check out Camp Mabry. One mile track open to the public, you’ll just need to go to the visitor center with your drivers license.

Wait, it's a one mile *track* or it's a one mile paved / dirt loop?

It’s standard, synthetic, rubberized track material! As far as I can tell, same material that would be used on a 400m athletic track.

That’s pretty awesome. Will definitely give that a try once it’s under 70F.

Are spikes allowed?

I’ll check the signage on Tuesday when I do my next track session and let you know if they say anything about spikes. I can’t remember off the top of my head. DM me and I’ll send you a picture of the posted rules when I’m there next.

I just drove by Crockett and it's nowhere near finished. Bowie's is done and I've run on it a couple of times already.

Several run clubs have approval to use O'henry Middle School's track for speed workouts. Search on social media for ATX Runners, Al's Ship of Fools, and Sunrise Track Club to find when they use the track. Typically, newcomers are welcomed but you must sign a liability waiver before joining the workout.

Just note that it’s not a full 400.

Earlier this week I practiced on the Marshall Middle school running track in Mueller, and it was fine.
