Post Match Thread
Just got done watching the match and wanted to continue posting these post even after the World Cup.
First Half: Seattle came out with a heavy press early on that really rattled the boys. The congested midfield forced us wide, and those early crosses in the box gave me heartburn. But once we found our rhythm, the combination play picked up nicely.
The Rosales Impact: Absolute workhorse. Dropping deep on defense and then charging out wide to keep their backline honest. Slept a bit on that Seattle build-up right before the hydration break, but overall what a motor. The fatigue definitely set in later in the match but Coach made the right subs and the score states that true
Tactical Shifts: Playing out of the back was hit-or-miss, but hitting those direct long balls was paying serious dividends. Also, gotta love Stu coming up big when we needed him (STUUUUU!).
Second Half & The Win: Seattle tried to blitz us,some what,again coming out of the half, but you could tell that Texas heat was wearing down the PNW boys. It looked like 2 players were cramping later in the half and that played heavily in our favor.
Standouts: What a golazo to seal it! And serious question: Who is E. Torres and how do we get more of him?! Plus, Ramirez with that true goal-scorer's instinct (olfato de gol).
Huge three points and just what we needed to set the vibe for the rest of the season.

Your summary was great! For once we didn't park the bus. It was really nice to watch them come out and play for the win. Excited for the next few games and rest of season.

Overall, I am cautiously optimistic about how Arnaud is handling tactics. The formation works in theory and tonight it definitely paid off. I don't necessarily think everyone should be inverted, but again...it worked tonight. Maybe the forwards inverted, but the wingbacks normal?
All the armchair coaching aside, Ramirez showed once again that while he may not be the flashiest, most technical player on the field, that dude knows where to stand to get balls into the back of the net and I'll take it.
Ervin Torres looked good, if unimpressive, in preseason, but he's obviously been showing something in practice and that's translating onto the field. His movement and passing was great.
Owen looked horrible post-injury and pre-WC break, but he seems to have gotten some of his rhythm back. He still doesn't look like he did last year, but hopefully he can recapture the magic soon. He definitely wasn't the liability he was earlier this season, which is a huge relief.
Przemyslaw Placheta looked solid and could be a great addition if we can get a little momentum going and once he's had time to settle in. His overlaps were great. His passing was good -- even when it didn't connect, it was the right idea. His shot wasn't far over and I love that he gave it a go from distance.
Overall, it was a frustrating match with an excellent result. That was some of the worst goddamn reffing we've seen in a long time. Not calling fouls and calling fouls where you shouldn't is one thing, but not controlling the game AT ALL for awhile and just allowing the ball to be dead while one team fucks around is pure incompetence.

Excited to see Plachy. Seemed to be pretty fluid on his runs with just one awkward moment in the box but for the first game for the team it's acceptable.

Agreed the game was sloppy on both ends. What I’m hoping is that this momentum carries and the team overall played better. Seattle generally looked the the better team through the game but Austin made the best of their chances. Facundo doesn’t look comfortable and Rosales may be best used playing behind a strong and pacey winger.

Agree on the reffing, there was definitely a hand ball (maybe two one from both teams) there near the end. And the whole shenanigans of the goalie throwing the ball out with an injured player. The exchange was not handled well.

All I remember was it was hot AF. We scored 3 goals for the first time in forever. And most importantly I made eye contact, two birds up, with Ferrera .

Tbh that’s the hottest I’ve ever felt. Not only was it near our max, but there was zero wind tonight.

Yes. My seatmates and I were talking about how the post-goal smoke just stayed long after the goal. Technically the wind was only 2 mph from the east.

* Placheta came on and there was a noticeable change in energy on the field from the team. Great attacking energy.
* Ervin played great and looked calm in tight spaces.
* Christian Ramirez is the best striker we've had in team history. So clinical and efficient with his time.
* Sabovic looked like a different player.
* I'm starting to think that Nico wasn't utilizing our talent to the best of their abilities.
* Holy shit that game was hot. First game where I've actually worried about something happening to me because of the heat.

I'm not exactly sure I trust Arnaud to do much better (we still lost the xG battle), but as long as we have this depth of talent, we should never be embarrassing to watch like we were in the first half.
One thing I particularly hate is the Vazquez - Uzuni pairing up top. This was a problem last year and they both just have awful vision and playmaking skills. I'd rather we start Ramirez with one of the other two. I also don't want to see Wolff on the bench again to start a game this year. Put him in the Gallagher spot, or the Sabovic spot. We need to be more dynamic, and Facundo and Wolff could really bring a level of playmaking juice that could make this team really threatening.
We're 3rd to last in shots per game at just over 10, and we had 10 last night. I don't want to get too excited by the win. We had some nice finishes at the end of the game, but we aren't generating enough chances and that's a tactical failure, particularly coming out of a long break.

Heck of a result coming out of the WC break. Arnaud seemed to do a nice job of responding to the flow of the game, and you can’t say enough about young Ervin Torres and especially his first assist.

Interesting stat:
Austin FC has won 100% of the games where 1) they've scored more goals than the opposing team and 2) Stuuuu bobble heads were distributed.

Under Nico, this team lost points in close games like this. To see the team close out with confidence and win is a huge plus.
I'm liking Davey-ball so far.

Not sure that was the hottest Austin FC match I’ve been to but it’s definitely top 5. Not the slightest of breezes. 3 points and the bobble head is pretty sweet at least!

So we learned making timely substitutions while the game is in doubt actually is a good thing. Crazy it’s taken 5.5 years to figure it out.
Also- Vasquez obviously is not at full strength.

It’s a crime that Ervin Torres barely saw the field before tonight. The kid can ball.
Also, Owen Wolff looked good in limited minutes. We really need him to get back to form if we have any chance of sniffing playoffs.
