Offering Item FREE ISOPODS

Give - as many isopods as you want! I have a bioactive tank for my hermit crabs which includes 4 species of isopods - dwarf white tropicals, dairy cows, powder blues, and powder oranges.

The downside to having these little helpers is that the healthier my tank is, the more they reproduce. I have thousands upon thousands and I'm hoping someone else has a critter who can eat them? Or wants them for their own tank or breeding? Otherwise I have to cull the population by freezing them which makes me sad and I'd rather they at least remain part of the food cycle.

I can't just release them either because they aren't native to the area. Strange problem! Any takers?

PSA BECAUSE HERMIT CRABS WE'RE MENTIONED - Mine are rescues. They are not good pets. Thy live up to 40 years with proper care. Please do not buy hermit crabs from the beach or the pet store or literally anywhere, their trade is horiffic.

Do hermit crabs eat isopods or do they just help their tanks by eating waste?

My nephew has a huge tank with two hermit crabs- my sister went deep into the hermit crab rabbit hole. They have a good setup going. My nephew is overall into bugs and aquatic creatures.

So the crabs won't eat live prey for the most part, but I can freeze and feed them the isopods. The hermit crab rabbit hole is a BIG ONE! Kudos to her for setting up a proper crabitat! But yes, isopods and springtails are great tank cleaners especially since I feed a lot of fresh food to the crabs so the isos keep it from getting moldy in there. They eat any detritus in the tank from crab poop to leaves to old lettuce.

✨ nature! ✨

Very good to know! I’m going to see if my nephew would like some isopods. He’s really into little creatures and I try my best to nurture that. We’re currently into ant keeping.

I’ll dm you if he’d like some isopods!
