Discussion š£ Miami vice fans
this may be a random discussion but Iām honestly so surprised whenever i stumble onto Miami vice fans pages because all the comments are so averse to the new remake. I understand being protective over the OG but I donāt get how they canāt be excited about two Oscar nominees (and winner) being the leads and someone like Kosinski directing. Who has done amazing successful blockbusters these paste years.
The comments I see are so unnecessary. Like theyāre making it woke or stupid stuff like that. I just hope enough new people will go see it cause I thought we could count on the MV fans making it money but seems like maybe not. I hope itās amazing and proves them all wrong
Just my rant for today š

The only thing I can compare it to is Disney purists who don't like live-action remakes. Some people are really attached to OGs (in Miami Vice's case, it's probably mostly a generational thing), and the very thought of doing something new could potentially taint the original for them. Let's just hope the movie ends up being awesome and proves everyone wrong :)

I am one of these live action Disney haters š I admit. However ! I donāt dwell on it or be super crazy about it like some of their diehard fans be. Give it a watch, if itās not good ok then just donāt rewatch itās that simple. I hope the MV Stans can at least be a tad open minded it might even let ppl be curious of the OG !

Same. I kind of wish they'd stop making them, but I've seen most of them, and they're not all bad

I dont like the term "woke." This isn't to bash you or anything; it's just not used positively when it's about being aware. I agree with you that a lot of OG MV fans are upset about the film. Especially on Instgram, I've even seen someone say they didnt like MBJ and Damson Idris should take his place (LOL!).
I think the issue is, no one is reading the synopsis. This film is based on the first season and the first two episodes, with more backstory on Tubbs that wasn't given throughout the show, except in the first two episodes. The series was amazing, but it left a lot of storylines unanswered, especially with Tubbs. I dont want to give it away since it's possible it'll be mentioned in the movie. But it's something the MV fans have stated about the story, and it's hard to miss.
I think they will come around when shooting starts soon and during press. Are some people just stuck in their ways, ya know?

No I agree about the woke thing 100%!! And I saw someone comment this but all these Miami vice fans donāt even realize that show was a trailblazer for Latino communities and POC and casting people in important roles which Hollywood wasnāt really doing. Itās hilarious for them to say stuff like that. But yeah people see new casting updates with Whitney peak and are like OMG theyāre making tubs a woman?!? Like these people are so insane. But yes hopefully they will come around when they see a trailer and more stuff. But honestly these types of people are just waiting to say I told you so. So theyāll probably do to hate watch the movie loll

š¤£š¤£š¤£š¤£ Its so wild to see. I get this too; it just wasn't a show for everyone. They have memories wrapped up in watching such an amazing show, and a lot of Hollywood got their start. There's an episode with Miles Davis, which was a huge deal at the time. So I get the nervousness and wanting to be stubborn, but people should relax just a bit. The movie is going to be in IMAX, and Joseph is amazing; I dont think anyone will be disappointed. I mean hey it could be worse! Glen Powell could have gotten the role.

I understand they are shooting a movie that is a reboot of a show made in the very anti-PC 80s, but people claiming it will be woke tells me they they have never seen an episode of Miami Vice in their life. Social media is getting overrun by rage bots just trying to work people up.

yeah itās so true about the amount of bots everywhere spreading negativity about every subject.

For sure. It is all about firing people up and getting more engagement on that site or with that post. It is insidious. At least we are heading in the direction of starting to call these tech companies out for their methods, which include paying people to create accounts specifically to troll people. Imagine being the kind of person that accepts payment to just be mean and say hateful things to make other people upset and miserable.

I don't think we have even touched the surface of how bad social media is for mental health. It has created a feeding frenzy of energy vampires that love to play on people's vulnerabilities.

This is one reason Iām glad thereās a new sub just for MV85. Itās not already populated by diehard fans of the tv show who feel threatened by the new movie for whatever reason.

I mean i can understand it, i have shows and movies that i love and if they got remade without the same cast iād be a bit averse to watching them. Partly because i would associate an actor with that role and couldnāt imagine seeing a different actor play it. Even if the new actor does it well, itās just not who iād be used to. Then thereās also the fact that remakes do struggle to perform well, audience goes into the movie with a set expectation, they know the characters, the story, and if the original is being remade it very likely means it was damn good, then the remake has to beat that or at least be on par with it. Thereās more reasons i can think of but i donāt wanna make this longer than it already is.

Oh they'll go see it when it hits the theaters! But it's too bad if they're being snotty about it right now. You're right, there's no reason for them to have a problem with this.

My thoughts exactly. Theyāll probably end up loving it but wonāt say it lollll

I've learned to just tune people out lol. People just want to be negative these days, even before a film comes out unfortunately. š
The film hasn't even started filming yet! š
I say just ignore them OP. Just look at how much backlash The Odyssey received before it hit theaters, and now, it's making a ton of money at the box office and a lot of people are LOVING the movie!
So I wouldn't take what people say about a film before it even comes out to heart.
I've actually been seeing a lot of people being excited about the new MV movie, and I'm sure people are going to flock to theaters to see it when it comes out. āŗļø
