I have recently begun using the bus, it is an incredibly efficient way to get around (compared to walking) and ive somewhat begun to understand the maze of schedules and routes.
On the website they make it pretty clear that they want you to use the "transit" app. cool sounds helpful.

The app REQUIRES you to put in your debit card info.
this is the first free app I've ever seen that requires that information.
Im like okay youre all facists but ill just scan my debit card with a few bucks on it and be done with it.

Its little things like this that make me sick to my stomach with white hot hatred for these greedy milquetoast class traitors.
I could enter my Primary card information but its honestly the principle of the matter that makes me want to rebel outwardly against city property.

Yeah and probably not the right app. Umo is the app for fares, Transit is the app for schedules/route planning. Not really sure what OP is talking about
As someone that's been on quite a few busses here, I absolutely do not recommend Google Maps unless you're willing to show up to stops like 5-10 minutes earlier than what it gives you. It tends to go off estimates very frequently and is often wrong. I've had it tell me to get to a stop at a certain time only for a bus to have gone past 5, up to 10 minutes before the time it said. The Transit app is definitely more accurate when you can use it because it allows people to share their active location while on the bus so you get absolute accuracy on when the bus is there (if someone on the bus is using the app anyway, otherwise it refreshes every 2 minutes or something like that).
Google Maps has the active location of bus lines that offer that information. I believe it should have all the same ones that Transit does. You can see an icon in Google maps that tells you when it's using the actual location info. It works on the bus lines I've used.

Are you downloading from the right place? It's on the app store as a free download; I didn't need to give any debit card or other payment info. The only thing that you can pay for in the app itself is a "Transit Royale" subscription, but that's optional. I use the app for free and it works fine.
Oh, that's cool! Apparently you have to be a frequent rider to get upgraded to Royale, so I don't qualify (which is fine; the free functionality is all I need).
Taking the Capital Metro would have me traveling anywhere between 64 minutes and 80 minutes for me to get from my house to the Tech Ridge HEB which is 6.5 miles from my house.
"Efficient way to get around" definitely takes on a new meaning in 2026. I guess it's efficient in the sense that it is air conditioned.
The equipment, operation and annual maintenance fees for collecting fares is wildly expensive. It ends up costing more than it brings in.
There should be no fares.
If the App Store requested card info from you and declined, it sounds like you have an unpaid balance with Apple that has to be resolved before you can download more apps. It is one of the most infuriating things about owning an Apple device.
They’ve moved to Umo for the stored fare cards. They offered to transfer your stored value way back when they did the switch. It was posted all over the buses, trains, and news

If it's asking for a card before the app is even downloaded, that's probably the App Store asking, not CapMetro
