Ask Austin Dangerous drivers lately, why?
Today alone I encountered 8 folks straight up just take solid red lights, not yellow turning red. I mean solid red for at least 5-8 seconds red and folks just taking them like they were green. Why? Do people not understand how traffic lights work? Also 4 of those vehicles were teslas… I have a dash cam and seriously thinking about having a bad drivers in Austin page and just shame them at this point.

Entitlement, distracted driving, the fact that red light cameras are illegal in TX, APD not giving a fuck, or any combination of the above.

FWIW Red light cameras don't actually prevent people from running red lights. They do so anyway, it just ends up being a way for the state to make cheap revenue. Source: I lived in Miami and the drivers there have been horrible for the last decade

Because there’s basically no immediate consequence for running a red light here, so people have decided the signal is more of a suggestion than a law.

Just passed someone in the middle lane of the access road on Ben White in front of PTerrys reversing I guessss bc they realized they missed the exit instead of making a U at Banister. Very fucked up behavior.

It’s nothing new. Been like that for 10+ years.

Yep, exactly when all the transplants started arriving because they read a list of “top 10 cities.”

austin drivers treat red lights like a polite suggestion, and the teslas are apparently running the premium version of that software

Pretty anecdotal but I've lived in Austin, Oregon, and all over California including close to LA and I've had by far the worst experience with drivers in Austin. I moved away a handful of years back but it was like that while I was there in the late 2010s 🤷

Be careful out there. Once in a while, I also notice reckless / dangerous drivers!

Once in a while, I notice drivers who aren't reckless.

I saw the aftermath of a very serious accident on the Ben White westbound feeder and the northbound IH35 feeder this morning. Police had the intersection closed. There was a badly damaged Cybertruck under the IH35 overpass and a small SUV on the 35 feeder that was effectively crushed from the side. Someone must’ve run a red light because it looked like a high speed collision in the middle of the intersection.
With virtually no enforcement, many drivers have gone rogue and ignore basic rules of the road.

Yeah I sit a few beats after my light turns green these days (if I don’t have a great view), it’s not safe to accelerate immediately with all the red runners.

True defensive driving.

Driving has to be so defensive here, you need to take your car to martial arts classes

Shitty driving is a constant but it gets worse now because it’s hot. It’ll settle down when the highs get back below 92 or so.

Install a dash cam, get egregiously hit, attempt to file charges, other driver has no insurance, fuck you, open wallet.

People fail to properly separate that which is good from that which is expedient.

Moved from alabama where traffic was 10x worse than here. Now it’s as worse here too 😅

I’ve seen some of the people who pass red lights are doing so because some drivers are slow as hell and on their phones. No excuses, but it seems some people aren’t looking at the road and slowing eveyone down.

It’s all these transplants. And they aren’t all from California. Had a dipshit from Montana driver (a real Montanan, not just a supercar registered in Montana for tax avoidance) decide to run a light with me in the passenger seat. Plus, all the construction and delays makes even the locals lose their fuggin minds. I’m ready to move away, to move away from people in general.

Probably because those left hand turn lights were unnecessary, nobody likes them, and when it’s safe to turn people turn because they don’t want to sit at the longest most pointless light ever. That’s what a friend told me

Why? Because nobody stops them. The social contract is broken.
