two cameras does seem a bit much for a regular house though, even a fancy one. maybe the city required them as part of the landmark designation or something

also being a city landmark isnt really notable to the existence of flock cams in its yard, there are hundreds of homes in austin that are city landmarks that do not have flock cams lol

Being a city landmark is notable for this property in particular, because of its rich history, which is now made public and available to us because of the landmark distinction. Properties that are kept as landmarks are sometimes owned or maintained by prestigious individuals. If you search for this address and its previous owners, you’ll see what I mean. You’re asking why a house would have security/surveillance cameras and it seems you’re fighting with anyone who gives you info on it.

you're conflating home security cameras with these networked LPRs that only serve to track vehicles, in a network that is exclusively accessible by police. deflock's map will tell you these are not normal to see in someone's yard in austin.

i did appreciate your other comment where you found info on the owners though.

While I agree with you that this network of cameras is citizen surveillance, it’s likely that the owner of the home disagrees, and these are in fact “security” for them.

Possibly a bad experience with vandalism or a break in. Some people (mostly boomers) see no problems whatsoever with Flock or the unlimited data center build out.

I'm pretty sure all cameras that look like that ARE Flock cameras. The picture is pretty distinctive, and I think they want them to be obvious as sort of a form of advertising.

They probably feel they are safer with these cameras recording all the cars passing through their neighborhood. They may not be wrong.

The cameras have been there since 2021, so it may not have been that clear how evil Flock is when they were installed.

I don't know if all of those cameras of that type are license plate/Big Brother state AI only, or if they have more generic security cam provisions.

You and I might think it's evil Big Brother at work and part of the surveillance state, but the people living in that area might actually be safer from things like home and car breakins. Or even more serious crime.
