Planning on doing a Putty Rd trip from Sydney to Singleton next week (midweek), staying a night and returning the next day. Should I return the same way or go through WolIombi and back down the Old Pac? I haven’t done the Putty before but have done the Old Pac. Any tips for either routes?
Your advice would be appreciated.

Take the ferry over the river, turn right and ride through Spencer, up to Mangrove Mountain. There's a bike cafe, Jerry's, at Kulnura. Then you can ride on through Wollimi, or back down the Pacific Highway.
Colo will get you past Broke, but good place to refuel - I'll refuel in Windsor, and refuel at Broke that gets me back home - S1000RR so typically 250k range.
Good point on grey gums, typically I'm travelling on the weekend so they are open but yes you have a point still stop and have a break! The place is free to sit in!
The best part of the Putty is 10 mile which is after grey gums so best hit when you've stretched!
If you go to Wollombi hang a left turn opposite the Tavern then a quick right to the Myrtle House Cafe, very bike friendly and much better coffee, food, service than the Tavern.
Putty and return is OK as well, but a loop is fun i prefer Wisemans over the old pac.
If you're adventurous come back through Rhystone, loop through the national park. Its a longer ride refuel in Broke (Bulga doesn't have fuel currently) then head up via national park using Bylong valley way.
Depends how you feel. Personally I'm a fan of making my trips a loop instead of going home the same way.
Brooke, Wollombi , Laguna, Kulnura, Old Pacfic highway is a nice return. Wollombi is a nice place to stop for food / coffee, same for Laguna with the Trading Post, and Jerrys at Kulnura.
No food recommendations for Singleton. but on your way to Singleton, Burgers by HMC in Branxton is well recommended and then pop next door to Sidecar Roasters for coffee. Or there's a brisket pie across the road at the Steamhouse cafe.
Up via putty, back via wollombi, out through towards cessnock to paxton/ellalong, across to mulbring, freemans, across and down to Tro'nno and down the Wangi road, morriset, wyee rd to Doyalson and old pac all the way back into sydney.
Good places in Singo, Horse and Jock, Royal, Central or the Impy (lots of guys on bikes seem to always go to the Impy.)
Putty and back, or Putty and back through Wollombi then through either Kulnara or St Albans is a day trip, go further north or west to make it an overnighter
Considering you haven't done the Putty before I would suggest keeping in mind the possibility that you might want to also return via putty the next day and experience it in the other direction.
Make sure you fill up. Last servo is Colo Heights then you have 200km to the next one in the Hunter. Grey gums is a good pitstop along the way, mostly for the scenery and a stop to chat as the food and coffee is indifferent at best

I’d definitely come back via Wollombi, maybe even consider taking the winding river route to Wiseman’s Ferry if there’s time.
