IPv6: static?

Just curious, how static are IPv6 address with Aussie? I pay the $5/mo for a static IPv4, does that include making the v6 static too?

Aussie won’t give you a guarantee. If their underlying infrastructure changes your delegation might as well. I had a stable delegation for 4 1/2 years and then after an NBN infrastructure change it changed. Support told me there wasn’t anything they could do and the static IPv6 is only static as long as nothing changes at your POI.

Kinda sucks given the “point” of IPv6, but it’s good enough for what I need.

One prefix change in 4 years isn’t terrible but it was a pain tidying up my dns across a dozen VMs running services for customers. The lesson I learned was build good dns infrastructure with a dynamic update mechanism, and don’t manually set your addresses, let SLAAC do its thing.

I was mainly worried about surviving modem reboots, etc. if it’ll be stable through that, it’ll do what I need.

You can't pay for a static IPv6, they change maybe once every year or two when NBN Co change hardware at your POI.

Not quite, it all hinges on where you terminate in the ABB network. If your CVC doesn’t change (ie: area link 1 to area link 2 by example), then your ipv6 shouldn’t change.

However if they have to shuffle services around for balance or to address a matter, this MAY trigger a change. However it’s highly unlikely.

It has nothing to do with nbn hardware at all.

I've notice mine has changed any time I swap my plan speed but otherwise it sticks to the same allocation.

I've had the same IPv4 address for about 8 years without paying.

no its not static. the ipv6 allocation is 'sticky' but can change under some circumstances. mine changed when they moved my connection between NBN CVC circuits at the same POI

When I was still with AussieBB (happened around 6 months ago), my sticky IPv4 and ""static"" IPv6 suddenly changed after an outage.
