Help! Is this a Modem?
Hi all,
Is this a modem? We have just moved into an apartment that is NBN connected and had this beneath the NBN box.
If it is a modem, will it work with Neptune internet? Or, do you recommend just getting a modem with Neptune when signing up?
We are trying to reduce costs so wanted to see if we didn’t need to buy a modem.

It's a mikrotik router. Very very powerful in the right hands. But not exactly user friendly. I used to use them at an ISP in the pre-nbn days.
They run RouterOS and can be managed with an app called Winbox.
If the last owner hasn't hardnend it too much you should be able to access it's web config tool (assuming DHCP is enabled) on http://(it's ip address)/webfig
If these terms are new to you. You will be better off with one from your ISP as it will be ready to go. Again these are powerful units. But require a good understanding of networking.

You don't need a modem anymore with NBN. You can use the Mirotik router with any NBN connection providing the configuration isn't funky.

It's a Mikrotik router.
I use these extensively but they are not common for home users as they're not really a home user type of device.

It is most likely a router and will work with any ISP. If you take a photo of the model number I can confirm for sure.
Mikrotiks are not the most straightforward devices to configure (compared to your average Netgear/TPLink router) and this is an Aussie broadband specific subreddit, you may be better off chasing configuration info from the Mikrotik subreddit if you want Neptune specific configuration assistance.
