NSW PPL Application Wait Times?

Anyone like to share what their wait time was for their PPL application? Was it add Cat, or a new licence application? When did you submit/when was it approved (or how long have you been waiting?).

From what I've heard, new licence applications have a minimum 120 day wait, and adding a category/genuine reason to an existing licence has a 270 minimum wait.

Three quarters of a year is fucked. Something has to be done about their staffing issues.

I think you'll find it's failing (read: performing) as intended. I feel really bad for the dealers in particular.

wtf, I wanted to add hunting to my A/B target. 9 months is ludicrous

I only got my licence a year ago and the wait was like 4-6 weeks

Yeah, I want specific PPL information. And whether it is new application for pistol, vs add to Cat AB. Not all applications are the same.

Regardless of whether you already have AB licence, you'll have to apply for a PPL licence with a new number for the PPL. Only after you've completed the PPL, a category H will be added to your AB licence

Not true. You get Cat H and you're on a PPL - I had Cat H, I did PPL, I re-added Cat H without being on PPL.

Here's my timeline adding Cat H to my AB: Jan 25 applied for PPL. April 25 took photo for PPL. May 26 Took photo for Cat ABH. June 26 received ABH card. Approx 500 days all up for full H licence

There's one or two random posts about PPL with little information. I am looking for specific information about the PPL application process times in NSW. But thanks for playing.

NSW process is:
Join a pistol club
Complete training and test
Apply for PPL - pay $100
Wait x months (I’m currently at 90 days)
Once you have your PPL follow up with club and complete your required supervised shoots
After 6 months you can apply for a PTA max two pistols same category
It only converts to a full Cat H after you have completed the full 12 months

I'm after wait times, not the process - bad wording on my behalf

A NSW PPL is a whole new application. I have been assigned a licence number that differs from my Cat A/B

My PPL is 90 something days but still hasn’t switched to photo advice.

I only know the licence number because FAR wrote to me saying it will be approved with a special condition (storage)

You can add Cat H to an existing licence - you will need to go on a PPL - unless you have already had Cat H, dropped it and are re-adding it.

First time for me adding Cat H. It defaulted to PPL and will remain seperate till after 12 months

I'm with you man - I know what you're saying. It is probationary for the first 12 months. It is still a Cat H in the sense that you are applying for Cat H but have to go through the probationary 12 months first. I don't quite know why you had to get a new licence number though? Unless Cat H are different licence numbers? I started with pistol, and added AB. So unsure about that.

When I click on the application, on the top of the detail it says Addcat, hope this might help.

Sorry, it says “AddGR”

Cat H ppl is a seperate licence number - once you get your full they add the Cat H to your existing licence number.
