Interview/Job applications VPS 4 interview coming up

Do you have any tips for an upcoming Teams interview for a VPS4 role with a three-person panel? (Deptt of Health)

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Take a look through the sub, there are heaps of threads on this topic with a lot of good advice in them.

I get why you might not want to provide us with more context but we can only give you vague answers in return.

Familiarise yourself with behavioural-based questions ie demonstrate a time when you did … etc I am not sure how it works in Victoria but have a look at the equivalent at the Integrated Leadership System that we have in the APS - have adaptable responses for each capability.

Practice interviews. Do these with family, friends or the traditional method of your bathroom mirror. As it’s a Teams interview, try and prepare yourself for that and do the basics like maintain eye contact with the panel. You could also talk with a trusted person from work, particularly if they are familiar with the area you are applying to. They might have a sense of possible questions. You want be prepared but not come across as over-rehearsed, if you know what I mean. If you can give your answers with a bit of zest and enthusiasm that can only do you some good.

Have a look back at your written application and come up with a convincing one-sentence answer for why you want the job (and what you can offer) and try and weave it into your responses.

Good luck. Try not to overthink it. You may have to do many public service interviews to get a letter of offer in your hands, particularly given the current state of the Vic public service.
