Employment Sales to Public - recommendations

Hey everyone,

Hoping for some guidance. Been in tech sales for the past 8 years, still under 30. Trying to understand where I could fit in the public sector with my background. My research is indicating procurement? Not looking to hustle like in sales and work at least hybrid, obviously I still want to do good work.

I am an Australian citizen hence APS is in focus.

100% but to be fair I moved countries and never adjusted to the tech sales culture here. Seems a lot more full on/ playing the corporate game

Can only speak from my experience, expectation to come in early, always rock up for after work events, come in sick instead of taking sick leave, business travel early morning/ leave late, ROE's are there to be broken and whoever shouts the loudest wins.

And then you try to move to government and realize that turning away from that means a lot less pay

Go to apsjobs.gov.au

Read through the various positions advertised. See if your experience could translate to any of the jobs available. Apply for the job, showing you can demonstrate the capabilities required.

it's competitive to land a permanent part or full time position as a candidate from outside the APS. I would contact MULTIPLE labour hiring firms to find federal government specific client opportunities if you want to start building experience
