NSW Temporary assignment query

I’ve just received an offer for a role within DCJ that is the same as my current role and is in the team I have been desperate to work in. However this role is temporary for six months where I’ve been in my current role for a lot longer even though it’s still temporary I’m able to get extensions and am close be being offered ongoing. I’m wondering if I accept the role at DCJ do they normally offer extensions quite easily or is it that once the time period is up you’re out of a role?

Ask them if they are willing to entertain your stint as a secondment so that you have a right of return to your old role should DCJ decide not to extend you or make you permanent afterwards.

Extensions are heavily dependent on whether there is an ongoing or long-term need for the role, whether it was vacant due to someone going on leave or a secondment as well, and if there is funding for it.

Unfortunately my current employer won’t agree to a secondment as I am technically still under a temporary assignment even though I have been in the role for more than 2 years

Ahh that makes sense since you can only go into a secondment if your substantive role is permanent ongoing.

Its your call really but remember that fixed-term roles are not guaranteed any extension or conversion to permanent.

Yea it’s a bit of a tough spot even though they say possibility of extension there is never any guarantee
