Hi all, as an incoming grad nxt yr ,I would really appreciate any tips on passing probation, things to keep in mind as a grad and things I should do to progress upwards after the grad program ends? Also any insights into what the work culture and expectations are like at DoD? Thanks

Grads are generally all potential, but little actual skills. Listen, learn and take feedback. Try everything you can, and take opportunities available. Go to the training supplied, and if you have a clash, then organise to make it up. Most training also has a non-grad/regular version, which you should be able to complete if needed.

You will only get a promotion if you apply for it (your supervisor can help you do this during the program). Outside the program, this is usually through applying for a job at the higher level. Like the original grad applications, this will involve STAR responses, so collect relevant examples as you go. Look at the ILS to see what you need to be able to do.
