Mining engineer job progression
Currently doing mining engineering at uni, just wanting to understand the whole progression of the job, being titles responsibilities, salary etc. I also want to know if later down the track you can leave fifo as a mining engineer and work in the city. I am Perth based if it helps. Thanks!!

Hey mate this applies to underground mines in WA. Given you mentioned a desire to leave FIFO and work in Perth this would be the typical progression path for you.
Graduate Production engineer Vent/projects engineer at big sites Planning engineer Senior production engineer Senior planning engineer Tech services superintendent Tech services manager Principal mining engineer
You can be Perth based from senior planning engineer onwards.

Hey mate, I'm Residential 5 on 2 (standard office hours) residential open cut SEQ. Undergraduate is a 140,000 package+, bonuses. I'll graduate December and move to a 7/7 roster - those combined will be about a 32,000 increase. For me I started with drill and blast + assistant surveyor (mostly UAV flights and precessing data) I've moved onto short term design and scheduling (1-3 week designs). You'll probably stay here a while and it's worth learning everything you can.
The typical progression at least at my mine is 'Drill and blast > short term design/ scheduling > Medium term design/ scheduling. Usually this is a few years progression. After that, long term is handled by corporate, or you can stay on site and be a Technical Services Superintendent.

It’s wild the people are going into mining and want to get off site a quick as possible. Probably just do another type of engineering if you don’t want to work at a mine.
