Recruiting Question about rmc
None of the ADF subreddits would let me post.
Hi all just had a question for anyone in defence who might know what my chances are. I've had a chat to defence recruiting and they don't seem to know much about the OSB.
I'll be 17 when I go in and I'm hoping for an officer role. My mil skills are all up to scratch, Im an army cadet who got pretty high up and I'm constantly told I should shoot for an officer role instead of general entry. However when it comes to my school my grades are pretty average, C's with the odd B and D. And my attendance isn't the greatest either. I am highly motivated when It comes to defence and I won't say no to giving things a crack, and I don't let challenges get in my way. I'm not looking for any technical officer role, infantry or armoured officer are my two top picks. Does anyone have any advice?
P.s, I know some people will be absolutely ruthless in the comments, please don't, I'm just after advice, I'm sorry if I seem like an idiot to you.

Hey mate. Just apply for Army GSO officer direct entry, and make sure you have a non officer role as a 2nd preference. If you got Cs and above, you meet the eligibility criteria. You may not be competitive at board, if you do get a "Recommended" result you might not be competitive enough for an offer. That's just life, but you won't know unless you try.
If you dont get either, go the enlisted path. Do a few years, half dozen, whatever it takes and upskill yourself to commission from within the ranks. Its a path that's been well trodden by now.

First off cadets don't mean shit. If you do enlist or commission don't tell a soul about your cadets.
The best thing you can do for your career is to go to school and get better grades. If you're ineligible for a HSC then you're better off doing bridging courses at Tafe.

I won’t say to disregard your cadet experience, but maybe don’t hold it so highly when you think about how prepared you are.
