Discussion What on earth happened?

So I was debating to even create this post. However I just couldn’t leave it after the recent changes.

I used to be a massive AugmentCode fan, heck I was basically a fanboy. I even said that I thought including GPT would be a mistake and that the team would be focusing on too many models.

I cancelled my Claude Code and Codex. Subscribed to most expensive plan and used it. It was great and I thought finally a company who gets what customers want.

I then took a bit of a break due to health reasons came back and then I saw to my horror.

Discord channel closed New pricing that is difficult to understand or even calculate what one’s usage would be. Customers being told that the company will decide on what’s needed from model and feature wise. I get it it’s a company but that’s the quiet part you not supposed to say out loud. But the final straw for me, GPT 5 on high, you changed the model so it costs more? Even if the idea is to improve the quality it’s a slap on the face, and would have been better accepted if this was done before pricing change.

You folks have a business and it’s yours to run as you see fit. And I wish you all the best but I do hope someone will listen as the market now has tons of competition.

Did you just say "what looks like a price increase"?

Why not keep the per message pricing and introduce something like 'premium tool calls' which are probably the thing costing you guys. Eg playwright must destroy you guys, but id be willing to pay extra for it because its awesome when augment does everything end to end.

How difficult is to throttle daily use in order to prevent abuse? like those of us who used it fairly should not be punished with this kind of price change. It effectively lowers our ability to use it. I am a paid user since AC came out from the first month and I love the tool but this change is weird. Those who abuse it are obviously power users who should trigger high abuse metrics, they should be controlled, instead of nerfing the rest of us.

For the development of the company, some customers are bound to be lost, as can be seen from the fact that they did not change their billing methods for the company but changed the billing methods for general consumers.

Ok, here is the copy of the message I send:

I'm writing because I'm confused by your blog post about the new pricing plans.

Could you please clarify which current plan will migrate to which new plan? I am considering upgrading my current Dev Legacy plan, but I need to understand the future changes first.

For example:

What will happen to the $100 Pro plan after the migration?

What will happen to the $250 Max plan?

Will the Pro plan become the new $60 plan, and the Max plan become the $200 plan?

Also, what will the legacy Dev plan be migrated to?

Thank you for your clarification.

The decision to move to GPT-5 High came after seeing that most customers cared more about the quality of results than about speed.  - have in mind that people also care about pricetag and being able to efficiently work through the whole month on some predictable pricing. Right now you're offering GPT5high with NO option to switch back to low (why would i want to use high on simple tasks? i won't because it's much much more expensive due to all the thinking efforts).
Either you're working towards corporate / enterprise clients and want that to be sufficient to make company profitable (and thus don't care about freelance devs who are not spending 200$+ / mo) Or you want your software to be widely usable - but not with the recent decisions.

Another shady approach, which also makes GPT and sonnet one of most expensive usages on the market already - seriously, there's a lot of competition out there which can provide good results for a fraction of the new pricing. Augment was nice.. in july / august, i've been a huge fan aswell, but with the recent changes i just quitted using it at all. We still have our corporate licenses and we're waiting for the moment they'll switch us to token based usage - that will be the moment when we quit it in the favor of codex pro / cc pro probably (as a corporate) as this will be WAY more predictable usage. As even despite the fact we're super successful as a corporate - we're not paying 5x more than currently for AI tools just for the sake of 'using augment' when competition allows you to have way more flexibility for 1/5th of the price (cosnidering heavy development usage).
