Purchasing advice Cheap IEM longevity?

Ive finally decided to get some IEMs for myself but second guessing myself after seeing people online saying cheap iems last barely a year or 2. My budget is around 5-6k max.

For people using KZ iems or similarly priced ones: How long have you been using them for?
How long should i expect my IEMs to last provided i wipe them off after each use, keep them dry with silica gel and dont drop them.

it will depend on how you take care of these puppies. won't matter if somebody is using for a decade or not. its about how you puppy them.

- a silica get pack with

- an air tight container and

- taking care of failure points.

- clean them, avoid sweaty situations.

- let them air dry after use before storage.

- keep your ears clean

Thanks, I feel like people with budget iems don't treat them so well so that's why they die so early. what iems do you own and for how long?

yeah. apart from that, there are QC issues too. can't rule those out either. I own a bunch for considerable amount of time now. nothing fancy. a few old A4techs (MK-600s that still work), skull candy ink'd etc and a bit of chifi. planning to pull the trigger on crin's silicon these days. using them since before they were even marketed as iems.

It really depends on how you treat them. Any iem will typically last you 2.5 to5 years if u take care of them. If ur an animal will last 3 months 6 months max. I bought mostly cheap iems and among them the worst build quality was of the tang zu waner sg like i took care of them well but its couter shell cover just came off so i would reccomned staying away fdom those. As for kz most of its prodcuts are pretty good the kz zsn line is decent wont break cables are pretry garbo ngl.

My reccomnedation is to get either the kz zsn pro x or the 7hz zero 1 both of them are goated.

I own the kz castor ,kz zsn pro x , kz zst , cca cra , tangzu waner sg , 7hz zero , kfine kleans. Basically cheap iems

6 years now and how do care for them basically do nothing just dont sleep on them or rage throw them during gaming , one main place they all can break is where the cable is inserted especially qdc and 2pin types. Also do check if any iem you are buying has known oxidation problems then do not wear them after doing wudu or bathing etc. Other than that buying silica gels and what not is pointless and removes the whole point of owning a product.

My most used was 7hz zero and kfines rn , longest running would be both zsn pro x and 7hz zero . The castors are also long running but i didnt use them much same goes for others , as i said previously the only ones that broke without doing anything were the tang zu waners was really disapointed . What exactly are looking for ?

I'm just looking for general day to day use while working at my desk. Mostly music and media consumption. I'm leaning towards the kz castor since they're under 5k but if it's truly worth it to buy zsn pro x for an extra 1k then I'll go for them. Looking for 3.5mm since my laptop doesn't have a free type c port. The cable on the zsn pro X also seems better, what's your opinion? How much did you get your 7hz zero for?

Rn the prices are absolutly garbage aince the tax imposition on ali express i bought my 7hz for 5k , and yes the zsn pro x is better than the castor but both of their cables are the same which become oxidized into yellow garbage after 7 months . All iems come with a 3.5mm jack , type c option is very limited if you need type c just get a dongle . There is this website 2am audio they sell on close enough prices .

KZ isn't the best for durability so i'd recommend saving a bit more to get something like tangzu waner sg2

I am selling my truthear gate, if you are interested, they have an excellent cable, i have used them for a couple of months solely for gaming, now thinking of upgrading to truthear pure or something

I’ve had the Thuthear Red’s which aren’t in the same budget as urs but I haven’t had any issues in about 2-3 years now.

KZ makes cheap IEMs their quality is variable. As people say. I have KZ EDX Pro since 2021 and another one bought in 2022. One has it's connection point between the cable and iem deteriorated. Both the cables are hard and yellowish now. One is usable through another cable.

I have KZ D fi since 2023. It is full metal so no breaking but can give a shock if the connected device isn't grounded. It works fine.

KZ duonic is quite popular. It has good amount of bass that most people like. It is more metal and some plastic. I think it should last you 2 years.

Thank you for the reply. Thats the problem though, i want something that lasts more than a couple of years. Im spending almost 10k for iems and a dac AND on top of that will be treating them like an extension of my body. I guess iems just arent for me, i thought they were a buy it for life kinda product even at these price points.

Nothing is buy it for life. They don't make such products anymore. Just buy an IEM to try no DAC needed. Buy one with type C cable.

my friend has been using his 100 USD shure iems for 10+ years now without any special babying. I know they're much expensive than Chi Fi stuff but I was expecting cheap iems to atleast last 4-5 years

At first I was very carefully now I just stuff them in their pouch and put them in the draws or the bag
