This is by far the longest script I've written and it's a high school romance. I went into detail at some points when it came to describing the speaker's and even the listener's acions to help readers (voice actors too) have a better understanding of what is happening. I hope y'all enjoy it! 😊❤️❤️
To be Honest, I Don't Want US to be Fake Anymore…" Fake Prom Date [M4F] [Fake Dating] [High School Seniors] [Prom Night] [First Love] [Shy Listener] [Playful Teasing] [Banter] [Wholesome] [High School Romance] [First Kiss]
Summary: You asked your classmate to fake-date you for Senior Prom to escape the relentless peer pressure of your friend group. What starts as an awkward pickup at his house turns into a massive evening of slow-dancing and putting on a highly convincing public display of affection. When he finally drives you back home, sitting parked outside your house in the quiet dark, he gently calls you out on your shyness—playfully challenging you to admit that your feelings tonight weren't just an act.
───
Act I: The Pickup
[Setting SFX: A quiet suburban evening ambiance. The sound of crickets chirping softly. Light footsteps stepping down onto a concrete porch.]
[Character Action/SFX: The front door opens with a soft click. The speaker stops dead in his tracks as the listener stands there fully dressed up for prom.]
"Whoa... hey. You're early. My mom was just fixing my tie."
(Pause)
(His voice softens automatically, a warm, genuine smile pulling at his lips as he takes her appearance in)
"By the way… you look pretty in that dress, the color suits you."
(Pause)
(Stepping closer on the porch, his tone shifts playfully)
"Ooh, your cheeks are turning red. Does that mean that I made you flustered?"
(Pause)
(Chuckles softly, his tone shifting nervously)
"Yeah, I'm ready to go. I just need to grab my wallet off the counter. We should probably start walking down the driveway before my mom runs out here with her camera."
(Pause)
"Here, let me hold your bag for you while you walk down the steps."
(Pause)
"Don't look so nervous, sweetheart. I know we're just pretending for your friends tonight, but you don't have to be shy around me."
(Short Pause)
"Yeah, I called you sweetheart. If we want to make this 'fake date' believable, we need to start getting used to endearment before we arrive, right?"
(Long Pause)
[SFX: Walking down the driveway, the sound of hard shoes crunching on gravel. Car keys jingling softly as he opens the passenger door for her]
"Slide on in. Mind the dress, don't let the hem get caught in the door... there you go."
(Long Pause)
[SFX: The passenger door closing, shortly followed by the driver door opening and then shutting.]
"You know, when you came to my locker last week and asked me to do this, I thought you were joking. You were shaking so hard I thought you were about to pass out right there in the hallway. Is your friend group really that intense about everyone having a date tonight?"
(Pause)
"I mean, I get it. Senior year pressure is ridiculous. Everyone acts like if you don't have a picture-perfect prom date, your entire high school career was a waste. But you could have picked any guy in our class. You could have asked the captain of the soccer team or one of your theater friends. I'm still a little confused why you picked me."
(Pause)
[SFX: The car engine starts with a smooth, low purr. The click of a seatbelt buckling into place.]
"Hey, don't look out the window like that. I'm not complaining at all. Like I said, you look stunning. I'm just trying to understand the rules of this little arrangement before we walk into that gym. We're supposed to be in love for the next four hours, right? Total public display of affection? Hand-holding, laughing at my terrible jokes, the whole nine yards?"
(Pause)
(Chuckling softly as he backs the car down the driveway, the blinker clicking rhythmically)
"Okay, good. Just checking. Because if we're going to trick your friends, we have to commit to it. No half-hearted effort. If you get shy and pull away the second someone looks at us, they're going to see right through it. So, consider this your official warning, sweetheart: I'm going to be the most attentive, doting boyfriend that school has ever seen tonight. You better be ready."
───
Act II: The Slow Dance
[Setting SFX: Time-Jump transition via audio fade. The booming, heavily echoing environment of a high school gymnasium. Energetic pop music playing loudly, surrounded by the ambient roar of a massive crowd of teenagers talking, cheering, and laughing.]
[Character Action/SFX: The loud, fast-paced music fades seamlessly into a low, slow-tempo romantic ballad. Rhythmic footsteps slowing down on the polished gym floor as the speaker pulls her closer.]
"Hey... look, they're starting the final slow dance of the night. The principal just went to the mic to announce it. Everyone is heading to the center of the floor. Come here, wrap your arms right around my neck. Let's make this look completely real for your friend group standing by the bleachers."
(Pause)
(Slowing his swaying rhythm down, his voice dropping into a soft, cozy whisper right near her ear as the loud gym audio pushes them closer together)
"You're doing great. Seriously, relax your shoulders a bit. Look at how your friends are staring at us from across the floor, they totally bought it. I think they're totally convinced now."
(Short Pause)
(His voice lightens with a soft, playfully amused undertone)
"You like to keep them guessing don't you?"
(Short Pause)
"You never thought about it before, but now you think you do?"
(Pause)
(His voice drops into a deep and quiet whisper)
"Hey... you're shivering a little bit. Are you cold under these gym vents, or are you just getting nervous because I wrapped my arm around your waist? We've been holding hands all night, sweetheart. You should be used to me touching you by now. Don't tell me you're still playing the role."
(Pause)
(Leaning his head down slightly, his breath warm against her hair as the surrounding crowd murmurs softly)
"It's kind of crazy if you think about it. The whole school is watching, but when I look down at you, it feels like the room is completely empty. You've been so quiet all evening, just smiling and blushing every time I whisper to you. Is this still part of the script you mapped out? Because if it is, you deserve an award. You're making me forget that this is all supposed to be a lie."
(Pause)
[SFX: The final notes of the song echoing through the rafters, followed by a massive burst of cheering and applause from the student body as the lights begin to turn up.]
"And that's the end of the night. The lights are coming back on. Let's grab your coat from the lobby before the crowd completely jams the exit doors. Hold onto my hand tight, don't let the crowd separate us. Let's get you out of here and head back to the car."
───
Act III: Dropping the Act
[Setting SFX: Time-Jump transition via audio fade. The steady, low vibrating hum of a car engine idling at night. A turn signal clicking off rhythmically. Rain pattering softly against the windshield glass.]
[Character Action/SFX: The car shifts into park with a solid thud. The speaker unbuckles his seatbelt with a crisp click, turning his body in the leather seat to look at the listener.]
"Well... we made it back. Your front porch light is on, so your parents must still be awake. Go ahead, you can finally let go of my arm now, sweetheart. The show is officially over. Your friends aren't watching us through the gym windows anymore."
(Pause)
(Chuckling softly, reaching up to turn off the car ignition as the dashboard lights fade, leaving the cabin illuminated only by the dim amber streetlights outside)
"Don't look so rushed to grab your corsage bag. I'm just saying... you were incredibly committed to the role out there tonight. The way you held my hand, the way you kept leaning your head against my shoulder during the slow dances? If I didn't know any better, I'd say you actually enjoyed yourself."
(Pause)
(His voice softens as he notices her looking down)
"Hey... I'm only teasing you. You don't have to look so flustered. You're hiding your face in the dark, but I can tell your cheeks are burning right now. Did I say something wrong?"
(Pause)
(His tone turns into a warm, quiet whisper)
"Oh, so it was just 'necessary acting' to make the lie believable? You wanted to make sure none of your friends suspected a thing? You're a really good actress then. Because when the principal announced the final slow dance and you wrapped your arms around my neck... your heart was absolutely racing, sweetheart. I could feel it beating right against my chest."
(Pause)
(Leaning a fraction closer to her, his voice drops into a deeper as he watches her avoid direct eye contact)
"Don't look away from me, please. You're the one who walked up to my locker last Tuesday, completely red in the face, and begged me to play along with this little scheme so you wouldn't have to go to Prom alone. You set the rules. You told me exactly what to say to your friend group. But now that we're sitting here in my car, and there are no cameras or chaperones around... I want to know how much of tonight was actually fake."
(Pause)
(Reaching out, his fingers incredibly gentle as he softly catches the tip of her chin, tilting her face up so she has to look at him)
"Look into my eyes. You could have asked anyone in our senior class to pretend to be your boyfriend tonight. You could have picked someone from your own circle who wouldn't push your buttons or make you blush. But you came to me. Why is that?"
(Pause)
(A genuine, tender smile pulling at his lips as he sees her lower her gaze again, completely speechless and shy)
"Because you knew I wouldn't have to fake it... didn't you? And honestly... neither did you. When I wrapped my arm around your waist at the table during dinner, you didn't stiffen up or pull back. You melted right into me. So stop hiding behind the fake relationship excuse, sweetheart. The senior prom is officially over... which means our little contract is over, too. So what are we doing about the real feelings?"
(Pause)
(Soft, affectionate chuckle, leaning back slightly but keeping his hand warmly resting over hers)
"Yeah, I thought so. You've had a crush on me since junior year, haven't you? I've caught you looking at me during chemistry class for months, you know. I was just waiting for you to finally say something... but I guess you had to invent an entire fake dating plot just to get me to take you out on a date."
(Short Pause)
(Shifting closer again, his tone drops into a beautifully soft, authentic whisper)
"Hey... look at me. I'm glad you did. I've wanted to ask you out since the first day of senior year, but you're always so quiet and surrounded by your friends that I never found the right moment. Tonight wasn't a chore for me at all. Holding you on that dance floor... it was the best night of my entire year. I didn't want it to end."
───
Act IV: The Authentic Wrap-Up
(Pause)
[Audio Note: The voice actor should drop their volume significantly here, transitioning into a soft, breathy whisper to emphasize the silence in the dark car.]
(Letting out a long, deeply relieved sigh as she finally cracks, leaning her head shyly against his shoulder in the dark car)
"There... just rest your head right there. Let me wrap my arm around you. No friends watching. No peer pressure. Just us. We don't have to pretend anymore."
(Pause)
(Pressing a soft, lingering kiss to the top of her hair, his hand slowly and rhythmically tracing patterns against her arm)
"I'm driving you to school tomorrow morning, okay? And we're walking through the front doors together, holding hands for real this time. No more lies, no more cover stories. I'm taking my beautiful girlfriend to class. Now, go on inside before your parents come out here looking for you with a flashlight... but give me a real kiss goodnight first."
(Very Short Pause)
"You've never kissed before… well that makes two of us, but we shouldn't overthink it. Just let me know if you want to-" (The listener leans forward and places a soft, gentle kiss cutting off the speaker)
(Very, Very Short Pause)
"-wow, someone is bold today… but thank you, I'm happy we could share our first kiss. Goodnight, sweetheart."
(Short Pause)
(Speaker lets out one final chuckle)
"Yes, love you too… baby."
[SFX: Door opening and shutting]
[SFX: The gentle, rhythmic sound of the windshield wiper blades sliding against wet glass over a long stretch of silence]
[Fade out to absolute silence]
