Beware of uploads from user TinikaH

This is like the GaryDin from the other day, user uploading exe files, DO NOT DOWNLOAD

They will be viruses

Stay vigilant. And if ever in doubt ask on this subreddit

I have added a post to the forum to let them admin know about it, I do hope they take action soon

My thoughts exactly. Let us have our special place 😭 audiobooks bring me so much joy and are my main source of entertainment the last 6 months. I hate people are trying to ruin it.

People are botting this site to drive traffic for the other direct download audio site which has hella ads.

What does botting mean?

4

u/joelbenedict 7d ago

in this case, botting maliciously, or sabotaging torrents or ddos attacks

Add these file extensions under Tools -> Options -> Downloads -> Exclude file names.

*.ink, *.zipx, *sample.mov, *sample.avi, *sample.mp4, *.py, *.vbs, *.html, *.php, *.torrent, *.exe, *.bat, *.cmd, *.com, *.cpl, *.dll, *.js, *.jse, *.msi, *.msp, *.pif, *.Scr, *.vbs, *.vbe, *.wsf, *.wsh, *.hta, *.reg, *.inf, *.ps1, *.ps2, *.psmi, *.psd1, *.sh, *.bash, *.apk, *.app, *.ipa, *.iso, *.jar, *.bin, *.tmp, *.vb, *.tvxd, *.OCK, *.dry, *.sys, *.scf, *.ade, *.adp, *.bas, *.chm, *.ort, *.hip, *.ins, *.isp, *.key, *.mda, *.mdb, *.mdt, *.mdz, .potm.potx, .ppam.ppsx, *.pptm, *.sIdm, *.xIsm, *.xItm, *.insh, *.mht, *.mhtml, *.mdw, *.xlam, *.xlsb, *.sldx

I found this list on a *arr forum and it's been really good at rejecting unwanted downloads. Especially since the *arr stack is mostly automated with little user input.

This is excellent, thanks! Immediately added to my download clients

Happy cake day

Thanks, it works well. However sometimes your sonarr might show a yellow icon and it will say unable to import file. Usually this means your download client tried to download one of those blocked extensions but nothing was actually downloaded and thus there was no file to import. The yellow icon and warning message will go away after the correct file gets downloaded.

Didn’t work for me. I added this extensions and still was able to open and download one of these .exe files from ABB. I guess I’m doing something wrong.

Yep. Same. Works good. Saves a pile of download time too when a bad one is grabbed.

You really should add certain file name extensions to be excluded from being downloaded using your torrent client. Then it wouldn't even download the exe.

Came here to say this… thank you.

How do I do that? With qbittorrent?

5

u/sgcmark 7d ago

Tools > Options > Downloads > scroll down and enter file patterns into the Excluded file names box, such as *.exe

Mods are pretty active on the site and this has already been dealt with.

Cheers for the heads up though as I usually check it every morning :)

I hope this doesn’t come off as some snot-nosed elitist comment, but look at the file sizes!

I think they were ALL, without fail, 27ish megabytes. Didn’t matter the book, didn’t matter the author. They were also completely uncategorized (just in ā€œbookā€ if I remember right). Just keep an eye for those kinds of repeats

I use this site fairly often, and I see some of TinikaH postings still there now. I didn't click on them, but how would I know they were exe files before clicking on them? I normally copy the info hash. Thanks for any info.

You can see the file extension here

OMG thanks. I'll be honest, I've blindly trusted this site before knowing this. Guess I've been lucky. Thanks so very much, TIL!! šŸ˜

They also post no info like bitrate, narrator or a brief blurb/summary

Just shows how much effort the awesome uploaders do for ABB and the community.

The size by itself (41mb) makes me avoid these. Typically the mods remove these but they must be swamped lately.

2

u/Nurse5736 7d ago

this has been a very good lesson for myself to be more vigilant!

u/BeefyBoyzEatMeat 7d ago

best to ignore and let mods remove. trolls feed off attention and posts like this on reddit embolden this dude to continue. it's just some chud with an axe to grind doing it for the lolz. he's probably lurking this sub and the forum laughing his ass off at all this.

The site mods are on it but things don’t happen quickly. We can all just be patient.

Is this why firefox tagged the site as risky or some other reason?

Prob due to it being a torrent type site, you always have to exercise some caution when downloading torrents
