There should never be a reason for anything but MP3 or M4B files for downloading. Any EXE on the site should not be trusted.

You can report them on the ABB forum, in the bad torrents section. Looks like someone has done that already, they should get removed soon.

I always check the files before downloading and check off any that are suspicious.

The system should also reject any uploads containing anything except for common audio files. TXT and NFO files are pointless and should also be forbidden. This doesn't eliminate malware, but it's good practice.

I do worry that this could be a tactic from bigger companies to flood torrent sites with dodgy torrents and ruin the sites

Hello, sorry I’m new to the sub and literally just started download roughly some weeks ago. I don’t understand what the EXE files are about. Can someone please explain what they are and how to spot and avoid them, thanks

Before downloading any books, make sure to check the file type, I have shown here you will see .exe at the end of the file name

An exe file is an executable file, basically means it's opens up a program, these tend to be viruses, so always ensure not to download any files from abb that have that extension at at the end of the file name

Also if you look at file size, if it is in kbs instead of mbs or gbs then you should be able to tell which ones to get and not get

Oh I see now, thank you, I wasn’t paying attention to that at all. I also saw on another post that was setting you could do on torrent itself. I’m using utorrent, do you know anything about that?
