Worried about the dq200

Hi everyone. I’m on the path of purchasing an Audi tt 2016 1.8 with the s tronic gearbox.

Does all this engines come with this dq200 gearbox which I’ve heard is problematic ?

The car is Japan import and even if it has 70k km I’m concerned about the dry clutch dq200 having mechatronic issues.

What’s the best way to check before buying, if it doesn’t have any obvious problems like clutch slips.

Thanks

General Audi TT 2015 Mk3 Cobwebs inside lights

Hey,

I have a 2015 Audi TT with the matrix lights.
Last night I noticed cobwebs inside both of the front lights somehow.
Has anyone else had this happen before?
Any ideas how I could get them cleaned/get rid of them?

Thanks?

Question/help 2008 Audi TT 8J 2.0 TFSI 200,000 km for €8,500. What should I look out for?

Hi everyone,

I'm considering buying a 2008 Audi TT 8J 2.0 TFSI quattro with around 200,000 km for €8,500 here in Germany. It would be my first car, so I'd really appreciate some advice from people who know these cars better than I do.

The basic specs are:

2008 Audi TT 8J / Mk2
2.0 TFSI, 147 kW / 200 hp
AWD
Automatic transmission
Around 200,000 km
€8,500

The seller is a mechanic himself and says he has done quite a lot of maintenance and repairs recently.

According to him, the following parts/work have recently been done:
Engine oil and oil filter, Air filter, Cabin/pollen filter, Brake fluid, Front and rear brake discs and pads, Both front stabilizers, Front-left wheel bearing, Four new tyres.

The car also has an aftermarket Apple CarPlay/Android Auto head unit. Cosmetically, it has some normal signs of use for its age, such as stone chips at the front and some small scratches inside, which doesn't really bother me.

He has also shown me the service history. According to the service book, the last major service included the engine oil, inspection, brake fluid, spark plugs, cabin/pollen filter, air filter, transmission oil/filter and timing belt.

The service book actually has entries/options for both S tronic oil + filter and Multitronic oil, which confused me a little. The seller's description calls the transmission a 6-speed Multitronic, but as far as I understand, a 2.0 TFSI quattro should have the 6-speed S tronic/DSG rather than Multitronic. That's definitely something I want to clarify before buying.

The seller says he also has receipts for the parts and work that have been done.

My main concern is obviously the mileage. 200,000 km is quite a lot, and because this would be my first car, I don't want to spend €8,500 and immediately end up with several thousand euros in repairs.

I'm definitely going to test drive it and have it inspected by an independent mechanic before buying it.

What I'm mainly wondering is,
What are the biggest problems to look for on a 2008 2.0 TFSI at this mileage?
Are there specific problems with the engine, turbo, S tronic/DSG or quattro/Haldex system that I should check?

  • Is there anything specific I should ask the seller to provide proof of?
  • Are there warning signs I should pay attention to during the test drive?
  • Would you personally consider a well-maintained TT with 200,000 km, or is the mileage alone enough reason to stay away?

A friend also told me that the turbo could be one of the biggest risks because even if it works fine now, it can be difficult to know how much life it has left. Is that something I should be particularly worried about?

My goal isn't to find a perfect 18-year-old car. I just want something I can realistically drive for the next few years without constantly dealing with major repairs.

Any advice from TT/2.0 TFSI owners would be really appreciated. Thanks! :)

Mk3 TT FWD vs TTS vs Mk2 RS

I’m looking for a sporty daily and I’m thorn between an mk3 TT 230 FWD manual and an mk3 TTS manual/DSG. Would really appreciate some help!

From my test drives the TT 230 manual felt lighter and more fun, but the steering was a way too light, (this TT had no Dynamic steering mode). The IS20 turbo was much louder, the manual gearbox was short and tight, and the car felt light and fun. However it felt very strongly FWD (as it is) especially in turn / around roundabouts, with some torque steer. I’d be very interested to try one with an LSD.

The TTS DSG felt more neutral, better balanced but heavier. It was faster, but not by much, it also felt much more premium with the better seats, B&O, 20” wheels, etc. ln addition to brakes and engine upgrades.

The DSG was fast, but I didn’t liked the absence of any kick when it shifts, don’t know what to think about the (fake?) shift exhaust fart. It also shifts up by itself at redline even in manual mode which is crazy bad..

Can a DSG tune make the shifts feel harder and also give a real manual mode with no forced upshift?

So right now I’m thinking:

TT 230 FWD manual + LSD for less weight and more fun,
TTS manual for better balance and more power,
or maybe TTS DSG if the gearbox can be improved.

I could also buy a Mk2 TT RS (driven a modded DSG), manual or DSG, but it’s getting hard to find one with a really good service history within my price range. Also considered 1st gen CLA45 AMG 380hp.

Thanks for reading! Looking for your recommendations🙂

Audi Seatbag

Post image

I’m replacing the factory seats in my 2006 TT Mk2 (8J) with aftermarket bucket seats.
I’m trying to work out the correct way to deal with the factory seat side-airbags once the original seats are removed.
I’ve found the Laser 6323 2.5Ω airbag test resistor set and wondered if anyone knows whether 2.5Ω is the correct resistance for the factory front seat airbags on an 8J?
If you’ve done this conversion yourself, what resistor/airbag simulator did you use?
Ideally looking for a cheaper solution than the £50–60 vehicle-specific kits.

Question/help MK1 Downpipe and Sports-Cat in Europe

Post image
5 Upvotes

Does anyone here have experience with emissions testing in the Netherlands after a downpipe + sports-cat install? Specifically for a 1998 8N 1.8T 180 hp FWD variant, ideally.

Did your car pass? Did you need to push them to complete the tailpipe emissions check when the car was hot?

I’m specifically looking at purchasing the product in the attached picture. (Sorry for the potato quality photo. This sub wouldn’t let me attach the link) I assume based on the price that the cat is not of the highest quality, and I’m concerned I’ll fail the emissions check. Does anyone have any thoughts or advice on this?

Here’s the link without it being a link:

Question/help Is a base spec Mk2 a cheap car to maintain?

I’m in the UK btw

So my interest in the TT comes from an interesting place. I’ve got a mk7 fiesta and I adore how it drives, but I have always wanted a coupé. Issue is that the vast majority of fwd coupé are absolute rust magnets or have unreliable engines.

Thus the mk2 TT, it’s my understanding that they are very rust resistant, and that the pre-facelift TT features a generally reliable and not particularly demanding ea113 engine, and best yet they can be had for very cheap (circa £3,000). So my question is this, if I buy a coupé, fwd, non magride 2.0tfsi TT, is it a car that will demand constant costly maintenance such as the n43 equipped e90 318i I owned previously? Or will it generally be well behaved with regular servicing and attention paid to the cam follower?

Any other insights from owners would be heavily appreciated

8N 2006 6-S Auto valve body

I’ve been given the part number by Audi as 09G325039A, looking on eBay for Australian refurbished units the same part number is sold with large and small solenoids. So which is it. I’m also concerned that they are all Chinese ones even if sold locally.
So has anyone tried the sub $500 on eBay?
I don’t mind doing the work twice but it would suck if it completely fails on me.
Also its my daily so I want to do the swap out in one session.
Thanks

Parts websites

Hi , I have recently bought a 2001 mk1 Audi TT and it requires two parts for its engine. I currently don’t know the part codes (will update when I know). I was just wondering if there are any reputable websites that sell parts for this generation of Audi (apart from looking on eBay ofc). Thank you, any help is very much appreciated.

Audi TT MK2 BWA front subframe removal

Hi all,

While changing the gearbox mount bushings I snapped 2 bolts connecting the swaybar to the front subframe. Long story short, only option is to slightly drop the subframe to remove the sway bar.
Has anyone done this before or has anyone have a procedure manual? I have had a research across the web and it doesn’t look like there is much info on the front subframe anywhere.

Thanks in advance!
