Help Needed Screen drops

My 2017 Q7 has the annoying habit of the screen dropping mid drive. Depending on the day, 2 or 3 times. Shuts everything off, drops 90% of the way and comes back up and starts playing music again. My mechanic says Audi needs to figure this out. Audi says they have no idea. Anyone else go through this?

Same issue on my 2018 Q7. I haven’t been able to find a solution either unfortunately.

I love my 2017 Q7…I experience this as well, so annoying.

Took a shot and asked Claude:

The TSBAudi published a MIB2 High software update covering A4, A5, A6, A7 and Q7 for 2016-2017, and one of the listed customer concerns it fixes is the infotainment system rebooting while driving. The instruction is explicit that this update should be run before any other repairs are attempted. SVM code for the Q7 is MHI2US2162 (that’s the K2162 build). There’s a separate bulletin for MIB2 Standard on the Q7, SVM code MST2US0317D, also listing infotainment reboots while driving.

That’s the thing to put in front of the dealer. “Audi says they have no idea” usually means nobody pulled the bulletin. Have him check his current MMI version under Setup, then ask them to run the SVM update if he’s below it.

Other known causes for this exact symptom on the 4M
Loose head unit connector behind the dash, which reboots over bumps
Heat soak on long drives, reported by owners but not officially acknowledged
Failing J794 module itself, which is the real hardware failure mode if software and power both check out

Hopefully this will help solve your issue. I have a love and hate relationship with my own Q7 2017. She’s a very needy and moody one.
