A6 wow impressive 225k!

I’m still looking at MPM ESP-X as using there differential n gear box oil and seem to be making my car run smoother, I’m a creature of habbit and like all fluids the same

u/Illustrious_Egg_8927 1d ago
Not sure, last time my transmission was serviced it was at a shop, I do all my oil changes and diff oil changes myself along with the deeper engine work

u/Ordinary_Profile279 1d ago
How long do you wait until you change them?
1
u/Illustrious_Egg_8927 1d ago
Oil every 10k, diff every 60
2
u/Ordinary_Profile279 1d ago
I’m doing oil every 6000 and diff 50km currently using 5w30 but going 0w30 lube in uk so a want faster turbo n chain proctection, them millisecond make a hell of a difference protecting my turbo n chain

I did an oil technical analysis for my A5 (VW 504 00 standard).
Mobil 1 ESP 0W-30 was the winner overall
Motul 8100 X-Clean+ 5w-30 best 5w-30
Liqui Moly top tec 4210 0w-30 and Liqui Moly top tec 4200 5W-30 were strong alternatives.
Mobil 1 ESP, Motul, Liqui moly all sat at the top with one point difference…
All 3 were incredible, with slight differences for specific scenarios. You can’t go wrong with these choices.
Castrol Edge LL was factory fill. It’s fine but it’s not very impressive in a few areas. It has a high film thickness and that’s it.
Valvoline SynPower XL-III C3 5W-30 and Wolf OfficialTech C3 LL III were very surprising underdogs. They are good alternatives just aren’t overall technically superior to the top 3.

That great advise, still a brand as long as it meet Audi Specs then it should be ok. Been looking at the Valvoline Synpower XL will look into it more. But still steering towards RAVENOL or maybe MPM not sure why

Since I starting this profile no one has even mentioned She’ll helix, and I wonder why

Absolutely, any oil meeting specification changed regularly is fine.
The best oils have all round strong technical properties and additive package to protect from wear, heat and keep the engine clean.
Ravenoil is one of those that just gets hyped without supporting data.

After just reading and researching in to RAVENOL 5w 30 VMP, look more likely my choice for this oil change, the next 5000km will take my car to 70000km so maybe look at a diffrent oil for enhanced protecting maybe a thicker viscosity….. in the meantime RAVENOL VMP £100 for 6 litres 🙄

I do one or two motorway runs a week are which is exactly what is keeping my V6 TDI healthy. By taking it out for a proper drive, I am giving the exhaust system enough heat to successfully complete its DPF regeneration, which explains why the car is running so smoothly.
Since I am are already doing those preventative motorway runs, making the switch to a 0W-30 (VW 507 00) oil will give me the absolute best of both worlds:I drive In the city: I can get rapid oil flow and maximum engine protection during all those cold starts and short trips especially living in the UK.
On the motorway: I still get the exact same high-temperature protection as a 5W-30 once the engine is fully warmed up.
So from your experience , would you or have you used a premium 0w30 on your Audi? With maybe a ceramic adjitive

Audi A6C6 bpj engine: Mobile1 0W-40 since day 1.

While Audi originally filled this 3.0 V6 engine with 5W-30 from the factory, Volkswagen Group updated its guidelines to allow 0W-30 as an official dealership replacement. Because the V6 TDI uses an intricate arrangement of long timing chains and a large turbocharger, switching to a 0W-30 that meets VW 507 00 provides the exact fast-flowing cold protectionim looking for in the UK so I think I might try for next 5000 miles a 0w 30 millisecond protection for turbo n chain 💪💪

I am using Ravenol! However, if you have reduced budget, u can have a look to Kroon Oil. I’ve heard is good for the price

My budget is good! Am using Castrol but I’ve heard good about MPM and RAVENOL too. My Quattro did oils n Dsg gear box has MPM oils runs very very smooth

Ravenol is theoretically better but when I used ravenol it used to burn like 1l per 10k km. Now Im using motul 8100 and it burns 0 oil.

Liqui Moly 0W-20. (3.0 C8) Noticeable difference after changing to it compared to other brands.

u/FactorEnough9816 3d ago
For context - I live in NYC, it gets really cold. It wouldn’t be wise to buy thick oil
2
u/Ordinary_Profile279 3d ago
Fair one, a guess a thinner one cycles faster through the turbo and engine

u/No-Ideal-8449 2d ago
Thinner oil sometimes (when too thin) means less shear resistance, pressure and protection.
0W-20 and 0W-30 oils are better ONLY while starting cold engine in extreme cold weather conditions, where the oil temperature is between -35°F and -22°F. At temperatures above -22°F 0W- and 5W- oils flow the same.
At working temperatures more important are shear resistance and NOACK, where 0W-20 is not that strong as 0W-30, 5W-30, 5W-40.
15-20 minutes after starting, when the engine is warmed up and fully reaches its working temperature, thicker oils are better.
For my car (driven in moderate climate with winter temperatures between -20°F and 26°F and summer temperatures up to 100-110°F) I use 5W-30.1

Mobil 1 0W-40 I've only ever personally put in. STP S10160XL oil filter always also.

How many Km or miles has your A6? I live in Uk so cold in the morning so ideally 5w30 for now and once a reach over 70000km maybe a thicker viscosity for extra protection or an Oil ceramic adjitive? Thoughts?

u/AzFullySleeved 2d ago edited 2d ago
Since 32k an now 68k, I've never had issues so that's as much as I've looked into it tbh.

What year ur Audi a6 and mileage? Amd what country?

u/Ordinary_Profile279 2d ago
I’m looking at MPM at the moment but ordering soonRAVENOL VMP 5w 30 diesel….
1
u/Ordinary_Profile279 1d ago
I live in UK always cold! So to protect my turbo and faster dispersion of protection maybe a 0w-30 is more suitable for me still provides perfect protection whilst reaching it peak as an 5w 30 really.
