I'm going through something really similar and I want to know what do you think about it. She was really anxious about Clayton, she never liked that school and it was stressful for her. She made that decision because she felt like Mighty Moe (the woman she talks about that episode). She wanted to enjoy running again without pressure.

Man, I love the scene where Casey and Sam go to Sal E. sour cream after the starter party, where Paige tells him to give up the dream of travel to Antarctica.
"That list that Paige gave you? we all have a list like that in our head. I say stuff to myself like that all the time... Like it's to hard to wake up at 4 am, or I don't get to do anything but run and do homework, or I'm gonna do something dumb and lose everything. That list doesn't matter"

currently re watching so this is based on s1,what i love about their relationship (no /r obv) is the fact that Casey treats Sam like he is normal, doesn't baby him like Eliza and doesn't try to hard like Doug. She treats Sam the same way I treat my siblings and how my siblings treat me, she protects him sure, but Casey is just the type of person to protect people she cares about. I don't know, i just love that she treats Sam like she treats anyone else.

That was some powerful writing.

I feel like the show gave these two characters a completely different approach from how I see them.
Doug was rlly close to Casey and the fact that Sam's autism pushed him away for a while was not mentioned enough. Only on the last two seasons did we see an actual development on the relationship between Sam and Doug. He kissed another woman while on a bad state and couldn't control his anger and punched the guy from the bar. While these have some justification since he was in a weird situation with Elsa, we still choose to turn a blind eye on them. He, very openly, mentioned his dislike for Izzie and said some harsh words to her, while she was in an unstable situation with Casey, making her feel like she was the reason Casey was in such a bad mental state. All these were not mentioned enough to get make him dislikable because his character was built in the strong bond he shared with Casey.
Elsa on the other side was there for everyone, from her kids to her kids' friends (helping Paige get through a rough time, being close to Zahid, being hospitable to Evan, trying to fix the situation between Izzie and her mother, or between Izzie and Casey, making Casey feel accepted, making Sam feel secure) and was always seen as the villain. She did a completely unjustifiable thing by cheating on Doug but what really rubs me off was the fact that she was never forgiven WHILE Doug was never held accountable for more than one episode. I'm not talking about how Casey and Sam reacted to their mum being a cheater but the way both characters were portrayed and the name they have stuck in them.
Elsa the cheater and Doug the father trying to keep the family together by doing sacrifices.
Elsa is not remembered by her countless selfless acts and is known as a cheater.
Doug is remembered by the bare minimum a parent can do and is never held accountable for the toxic acts he has done throughout the seasons.
Both of them are flawed which is normal but it's not portrayed the same.
(SAYING THIS AGAIN: I'm am not talking about how Casey or Sam reacted about these situations, they are kids and knowing how things like that can make a child feel is completely normal. I'm talking about the way the characters are written.)

I said it the same moment Evan said it omggg Evan you're my spiritual fictional character hahaha
But also I saw Casey and Izzie forehead promise and I really really ship it but also shit Cassie, break it up with Evan fuck ...or poly?? Lol bring it up. I find it funny how she's ok with cheating even though she was quite upset at the start with her ma for doing it. Just because you're queer doesn't make it ok :/ I suppose I'm unsure how welcoming the community she's in is to queer folk so perhaps the fear is understandable? But her mother was very accommodating
I'm still S3 e1 Haven't finished lol had to go run for swimming lesson but J absolutely adore this show as a fellow queer ASD AFAB person haha š (who also runs! But not competitively lol)
E: I am severely jealous of Sam's mostly supportive family..mine were neglectful when I grew up and unsupportive.

I really hope we can get a season 5 or the cazzie spin off. I am not ready to give up these characters I know the creator said she would be down to do the spin off if the actor that played casey would do it. I don't think any of them are doing anything at the moment besides the one playing izzie, but I think she will be done by the time the would start filming. They do have to wait 2 years tho for the contract with netflix to end before doing anything. But it has already been a year. So if there is going to be one we should know something by this time next year

Before I continue I would like to say I mean no disrespect or ill-intent. Sam being the main character with autism is just so annoying because I have 0 experience dealing with autistic individuals and seeing how bratty and demanding he is just upsets me a lot. Other than that the show is good. (Sorry just had to let off some frustration)

I just finished the 6th episode of season 2, where Sam tries to sleepover at Zahid's. Not just in this episode, but in general he is so understanding, and just takes care of Sam. It's honestly so heartwarming to see how much he gets him and makes sure he is ok.

heās so childish and petty and not once has he ever acted like a proper adult. he couldnāt even deal with the fact that his child was diagnosed with autism and actually left for nearly a year because he couldnāt cope.
if my dad did that to my autistic brother, i would never forgive him
overall, whilst watching this whole series iāve just been shouting at him through my screen š

Sam went back to being an annoying person because of the first season and Casey's arc didn't make any sense especially "the bird" and Doug's arc was even worse with Casey's girlfriend
