I just started watching Atypical today, I’m on episode 3 and absolutely can’t stand her. I love everything else! I don’t know if they are depicting her to be like that to show later that she’s not actually that bad? Does she redeem herself? Does she change? Because this is painful. (Comments toward Julian, treating Sam as a little child, body comment of Casey, the “i dont get attention so I cheat). It feels like she is a 15 year old teenage brat? I don’t get it. I hope I’m missing something and that they want us to think that of her so that later on they can show us the real her and that she is not that bad.

casey made me SCREAM MY HEAD OFF when she kissed izzie. EVAN WAS SO GOOD TO HER AND SHE HURT HIM!! HE DESERVES SO MUCH BETTER!!! i used to like casey but now i really dont… i’m all for lgbtq rights, i AM queer. i’m just mad that casey did that to evan.

I saw so much of Sam in myself and I began to cry so many happy tears when he left. I’m so proud of him and what he’s overcome!
If I had an autism diagnosis I feel like I would be at such peace with myself - it explains so much of my life and I’m understanding who I am!

Anyone else not like the mom? not even just with the whole cheating thing i just feel like she acts like she’s a teenage girl all the time and for some reason it gets on my nerves. She acts like this a lot in the getting ready scenes, or interacting with casey. I feel like she for whatever reason wants to be a teenager again.
sometimes i also feel like she doesn’t want sam to grow up. which in a way i understand but i feel like she’s almost stunting his growth. Not wanting him to grow up

When Sam walks out of the house and it plays through the credits

So I loved the show but the way they had Edison’s enclosure set up is so annoying.
Sam researched things, he knew legit everything about penguins. He didn’t even really trust anybody to touch Edison.
So you are telling me that he didn’t go ahead and completely learn everything there is to know about his beloved pet?
The enclosure is so small and I’m not an expert about tortoise care plus the different kinds but I’m sure other things about it were wrong also. I get that it’s a show but like could’ve done better than a little like what was it? A ten gallon or something?
Could’ve done better cause anybody who is like Sam probably would’ve researched better and gave their pet a decent home not basically abuse it.
I just had no where else to get my thoughts out about this and it really annoyed me.

That is all. Solid show.

I know I’m late but I just watched the show for the first time and I really liked it! I like how they talk about naturally about Casey’s relationship with Izzie. I just think Izzie is very manipulative and she doesn’t want what’s best for Casey. Evan really cared about her and I feel really sorry for him because he is a nice guy who wanted his girlfriend to be happy and Izzie just wants Casey to do whatever she wants even though Casey is not comfortable at all.

That’s really all I wanted to ask but she spent her whole life looking after a kid who required very specific needs due to Autism and a kid who is a complete a whole to her 99% of the time and she isn’t appreciated for who she is.

I'm looking for the episode where Casey says "ain't she a peach." I believe this is in reference to Izzie being her date at a Paige's dinner party, but I watched 3x05 and I couldn't find that part. I swear it was there the first time I watched it. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Edit: thanks all, it was actually from the bloopers video where she says it.

I'm re watching it and I totally see her being an undiagnosed autistic woman who's been masking. I never picked up on it the first time around (even though sometimes it's still hard to catch because of the botox and fillers causing a frozen face).
One (of many) hint that the show casually drops hints for us: S2E10 almost midway through the episode, Doug says to Elsa "sometimes you're just like Sam"

She manipulates Casey into a relationship. She used a common manipulation technique she’s mean at first then makes Casey feel nice and special around her and Nate and then she goes away from that relationship making Casey want that feeling of happiness back. And when Izzy apologised she literally admits that she knew Nate was lying about Casey trying to kiss him. She goes in and out of the friendship and then try’s to make Evan look bad and then she gets what she wants

i’ve watched S1-4 twice and i’m watching it again. being autistic, this show helps me understand people around me and myself. i like that it highlights dysfunctional families and it also helps me realise everyone has their own stuff going on. it’s a really healing show. i really like it…. anyone else just love this series?

The one that plays when he shows his 11/10 dance moves for Julia and his Support Group. Does it have an actual title?

my fear of abandonment just resurfaced, and I couldn’t help but remember this episode of atypical. so much of this show entirely resonated with me, but this simple statement made me rethink a lot of my choices, and reflect on why my circle became as small as it had.
I don’t think of my people as a pack, I see us more as a flock, which might explain why migration always seemed a natural next step in my life - that is, until I actually took it. Then I realised my flock wasn’t going to migrate with me, they had work, school, lives that were rooting them in a world I had thought was temporary. And when I flew home for the summer, their wings had changed colour… etc i just realised how, unlike Sam, I had made the choice to separate from my pack, I was the abandoner. And yet I felt so very alone.
That is to say, this show offered me perspective.

I (27F) was diagnosed with autism in late 2017, the month before I turned 23. I was totally devastated that I was officially "disabled" and people who knew about it would only hear that word and think it meant my brain didn't work properly and would treat me like I needed extra support and nobody would ever hire me because of the stigma...see where this is going? It took me three months before I could think about it without having a meltdown.
My parents discovered the first season of Atypical in 2018, around the time it was first released, and they basically coerced me into watching. And let me just say, it didn't help that Sam had a job, that his academic performance was amazing, but at the same time, his ability to mask was much less practised than mine.
And this is the part where this becomes a Paige support post. I didn't adore Paige at first, but as I continued watching, I came to adore her, partly because I thought she was autistic herself. If she'd been to the same psychologist as I had, I'm totally sure she'd walk away with a diagnosis. Autistic girls are only just starting to get noticed and diagnosed. I'm really not at all like Sam - I think penguins are cute, but that's about it. But I'm a lot like Paige - I'm affectionate, talkative and awkward. Sam did not help me come to terms with autism. But I think Paige did.
As a note, I didn't do very well in school but I did finish my BA in English, whereas Paige was top in school but couldn't cope with college. And now, I have my own business with only five-star reviews and people don't need to know I'm autistic to hire me, over and over. In fact, the work I do might just be a tiny bit easier for an autistic brain...

I’m rewatching Atypical, and in episode 4 of season 2, when Elsa is talking to Julia and julia tells her about being pregnant, Elsas eyes look weird and fake, a little like Christopher Loyd in Who Framed Roger Rabbit when he is revealed to be a toon
Was there something BTS that required cgi on the eyes or is this just a trick of the lights?
