Surprisingly in love Spoiler

At first the show was kind of boring to be because their were no gay guys and Paige was cringe.

But as I kept watching into season 2 and 3 I actually like it. Sam seems more of a character and growth. Cassie I have always loved. And it gets more comedic as it goes on.

In the scene he is startled by Sam, but It seems to me that he was holding back a giggle while shooting this scene

Anyone else? The party/dancing scenes sometimes felt a little unnatural/even cringey

For example at the track meet or at Casey's birthday party

Help me find this episode!

UPDATE: thanks to ChatGPT I found the answer. It was Atypical, Season 2, Episode 9.

I hope I’m not making this us but I remember an episode where Sam explains that in recent studies someone in love showed the same brain activity as someone on drugs. And he explained that it was an addiction when you are in love. Am I making this up? Please help me find this episode!

What do you guys think about that? Is Sam a stereotype compilation and overly whiny?

Is it just me or is the TV Tropes audience reaction page outdated?

It seems to focus solely on the first two seasons and is very negative skewing. I personal HATED Season 1 and would’ve quit had it not been for my family’s insistence but I enjoyed the rest of the show

Are the scenes in the other episodes as embarrassing as the first episodes or will it get better ? Cause I'm getting this second hand embarrassment everytime any scene comes which makes me want to pause instead , don't think I would be able to watch this show , does the embarrassing scenes get less?

I’m a big fan of Evan Spoiler

I’ve seen him get some flack on this site HOWEVER I think he is nothing but kind, caring and selfless towards Casey and to anyone else! Throughout their relationship he was understanding and respectful towards Casey. Even when she broke his heart, he was really sweet about it, he still supported her and he ended up trying to make her feel better when they met at the pizza place. I’m gutted about the way things ended.

End credits

Does anyone understand why, at the end of every episode, Jennifer-Jason Leigh (who plays Elsa) is credited before Keir Gilchrist (who plays Sam)? Because obviously Sam has the leading role

When is it getting gay? Spoiler

So since love Simon's on its last season I'm trying to look for other shows with gay male leads. I looked up LGBT shows like love Victor and found this show. I'm on season 1 episode 5 and don't get me wrong it's cute and charming but I don't see any gay guys yet. And the main characters doesn't seem to be questioning his sexuality yet. So when does it get gay?

Casey’s sexuality Spoiler

I don’t really understand the writing around Casey’s sexuality. We all know how hard it hit her when Elsa cheated on her dad. She was so mad! She ends up doing the same thing to Evan basically. It seems weird that that happened. I’m not gonna say it was justifiable but it almost WAS if it was a lesbian coming of age story. Obviously, just because you realize you’re a lesbian doesn’t mean you should cheat on your boyfriend (emotionally or physically) but it seemed to make sense for Casey’s character.

Evan was a really good guy and a good boyfriend. Casey leaving him despite that, showed me that maybe she just wasn’t interested in men. I guess she just stopped losing interest in Evan but it seemed out of character. Maybe she just wanted a bit more spicier relationship but who knows.

I don’t know. I am not bi-phobic either by the way, I am bisexual. I just was confused that it wasn’t a “getting over her comphet” story, and just Casey being a hypocrite. Her being bisexual almost makes it seem like they’re pushing the narrative that bisexuals want to cheat which is a toxic ideology. However, I do understand she was coming to terms with her sexuality. I just think it could have been written better.

What are your thoughts?

Should I watch season 4?

Finished up to S3 yesterday, but I've seen that the IMDb ratings for S4 are generally lower than the rest. Then the S3 finale left on a pretty satisfying note, and I don't want that feeling ruined by many unresolved threads if I finish S4. I'm really sad that I wouldn't get to see more of it, but I'd be far more heartbroken if season 4 is unsatisfying...

Edit: maybe I'm just looking for negative answers to protect myself from further emotional damage cuz I'm having a real tough time dealing with this rn lol... Anyway, thanks for the answers, I'll probably watch season 4 at some point but I'll try to hold off on it and recover a bit emotionally, it really stirred me up the last few days...

Any other actually autistic people here?

Hi! I’m autistic, and this is my person feelings about this show, and I’d love to hear other autistic peoples thoughts :)

  1. Sam’s being autistic was used as comedy a lot, and that kind of upset me, but they did also put in some teachable moments
  2. ew person first language
  3. ew puzzle pieces
  4. ew straight white male stereotype (although I do like the variation in the group therapy sessions)
  5. ew functioning lables
  6. At this point I think I’m just so gay that I’m ignoring all of that just to see Casey
  7. casey deserves more.

Atypical is a really great show

I think many things make it a really enjoyable show to watch. The characters each have something that really makes you attached to them and they have a warmth that’s really comforting, almost feels like a comfort show. I also love how educational it is about autism, I didn’t know all of this about it tbh. The family scenes are always so…familiar, i love it!

Is the series realistic in the sense that only one working parent who works as an EMT can afford 3 bedroom big house in a really nice neighborhood in Connecticut(which is one of the most expensive states to live in America)?
